The word fragility is on my mind in all kinds of different contexts and that's the reason why it has become part of my new art-journal
Ro and I woke up early to try to shoot the French Quarter when it was quiet and peaceful, and more specifically to shoot around Jackson Square and St. Louis Cathedral. I really wished we were able to get up earlier but had a slow start.
We shot around the French Quarter for a couple hours and then couldn't help ourselves with the beignets at Cafe du Monde! Felt a little bit guilty because the other girls were still sleeping but the coffee helped power us through the rest of the early morning. The rest of Saturday was luckily sun shiney, food-filled (ate at Croissant D'Or, The Gumbo Shop, Cafe du Monde -twice in one day again!- Mother's), runners-inspired (by the RocknRoll Marathon Expo) and a lot of catching up with some wonderful ladies!
All the food, sights and sounds of New Orleans were a bit of a distraction from the half-marathon. :-) But on the otherhand, it was a great way to keep our minds of the race...thank you beignets. :D
I was inspired to shoot around the cathedral because I saw this amazing shot of the benches and the church by another flickrite. Of course, I'm not going to duplicate it but the benches were part of what I wanted to capture. I'm not sure why, but I love shooting benches. They are so fascinating.
37 bullion knots of 50 wraps in wool are laid down on paper. Now it is time to finish this piece of the puzzle ... Have a wonderful weekend!
Stay safe, stay healthy!
Last night, just before it was time to get some shut-eye, the first stitches were laid down on the paper. Some lovely times are coming up!
Last week I made notes for a new big project and this is the start of it. The paper is from an old genealogy book which was printed in the early 1940's. Used this paper before and it is absolutely wonderful to stitch on.
This morning we had some sunshine and I couldn't resist making some new pictures of my work in the ledger Alchemy
"Go into arts. I'm not kidding.
The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable.
Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven's sake.
Sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem.
Do it as well as you can.
You will get an enormous reward.
You will have created something!"
Kurt Vonnegut
Last night, while the second lockdown due to Covid was announced, these layers were finished. Today there will be some lovely hours of giving my love for memories a form.
Stay safe, stay healthy, make your art and enjoy yourself!

The first piece of very fine crochet ribbon is added to the book The Unknown maker.
It was a long ribbon and so it runs over three pages.
After finishing one side I had to make a photo to capture the shadows ... I know, it is very nerdy ... :-))
Have a lovely weekend!
The holes of the running stitch look really big because of the macro but I promise you that their width isn't 1 mm. :-)
While I'm reading In praise of slowness by Carl Honoré I leave you with this page made years ago.
Enjoy yourself!
