At long last, feeling safe to visit a friend at home.

Was trying out a lens, rented for a weekend...

I chatted with this woman who told me she "visits" her late husband once a week at this military cemetery at Cabrillo National Monument in San Diego.

(or 'home sweet home')

While visiting my family in Geneva, I had the chance to listen to the band "The Wenders", where my brother-in-law is playing the bass. Actually, the concert was really great, and gave me a nice opportunity to practice my photographic skills. The lighting was far from ideal: a big "light wall" on the back and no nice-looking cone shape projectors... I got a few decent shots though and I will post a few here. I start with the leader of the band, who is actually also the singer and writer of the songs: Wim.

Visiting my parents to eat "Æbleskiver", a kind of Fritters, usually associated with the Christmas season. Took a few pictures. This is my dad in his small workshop room.

After visiting in Baltimore and Washington DC we visited the battle field at Gettysburg Pennsylvania. First stop was the Visitors Center for a history lesson about the most famous Civil War Battle. After the history lesson and amazing Cyclorama program we drove through the roads of the battle fields. For three days in July of 1863 more than 15,000 Confederate and Union soldiers battled here. It is sobering to see the more than 1400 monuments and memorials to the fallen soldiers both Union and Confederate. At the end of the third day of battle 10,000 soldiers were killed or mortally wounded, 30,000 injured and 10,000 captured or missing. The dead were buried in shallow graves on the battlefield and crudely identified by a pencil writing on wooden boards.

Some of the battlefield photos were taken from the back seat as we drove through the famous battlefield. I will add them to my From the Passenger Seat Gallery.

Perhaps someone out there can tell us more about these works.

[Having returned home and as we inch into late Fall and Winter with no plans for extended photo trips until next year, I resume uploading the rest of my selected photos from 2020 (10 per day, usually in the morning CET), as well as a selection of my current, 2021 photos (usually 3 or 4 per day, in the evening CET).]

The Gers is a small part of the region of Aquitaine, which covers most of southwestern France. On July 2020, we rented a house for three weeks in the Gers area, and commencing today, I will upload a selection of the photographs I took while we were there. I hope you will enjoy them!

As usual, I will caption more specifically in bold type below whenever necessary.

The splendid late Mediæval (15th century) house known as Maison Collongues in the city of Auch.

Fans of Mediæval architecture and art are in for a good time when in Gascony, as many villages have a strong house, fortified farm, manor or castle of varying size and condition.

This one is the manor or small castle of Avezan, less than a kilometer from the old house that we had rented.

A micro-scale build inspired by this image by DOFRESH . on Artstation. I really enjoyed build this style of vehicle. This version is totally different to my initial sketch in Stud.io. I think that it might be fun to build a minfig-scale exploring vehicle along these lines.

A rare type oh heritage architecture in the village of L’Isle-Bouzon: this dovecote from the 1400s is unique in the whole Gers, first because such utilitarian buildings from the Middle Ages were rarely kept, and more frequently pillaged for stones, and next because of its very unusual, perfectly round vaulting, which unfortunately became leaky, hence the modern-day tiled roof that was installed to protect the inside of the monument.
