Spring is strong and virtuous,

Broad-sowing, cheerful, plenteous,

Quickening underneath the mould

Grains beyond the price of gold.

So deep and large her bounties are,

That one broad, long midsummer day

Shall to the planet overpay

The ravage of a year of war.

- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Once again pass the sheet of a calendar and it happens that this time, you see yourself, I see the events that parade and I think they are like simple satellites that revolve around a center, I see the true and only power that Always resides right in the mind, because the fact that personal experiences leave a mark on the brain structure shows us that there is nothing that changes in a certain way forever, and this reveals that we are programmed, but to be unique, Totally different from the others.

People have an infinite capacity to make us unhappy. Does this unhappiness have to do with the fact that we are programmed to be unique ...?

We always have to start from scratch, but of course, we are wrong many times, we are more unhappy because we are freer mentally, we can make mistakes and maybe that is the price of freedom ..

Experience is sharpened in rational power and trust is virtuous when you own yourself ,,,,,,,

Time appears as an allegory, once again it begins when you see the year we are in and we will start the new one.

The good and bad moments come to mind, the nostalgic, the sad and the goals that are fulfilled in the past. I do not know what awaits me, but what I know and I do not tell you I am not the same, that he has changed, I think we all have the same thing, but what really matters is to realize that I am no longer who I was , that I have learned from everything that has happened to me this year and in that before, that absurdities and all those pantomimes do not matter, that what really matters is in yourself and what you were before is nothing more than a memory of the past of the which there is no photo to tag or hang.

In spite of everything, I have to admit that yes, he heard incredible stories, he has seen things that he has not wanted to see, he has lost people and he has found something else, he has uncovered lies and has discovered truths, some people have hurt me and I do not know Yes what you are doing is something else, but after all, that does not make it any more special this year, if it is not the fact of dismissing the person who is writing this, because like all of you, you have changed the time to write this text. That is the essence of the things that happen to us, that is the important thing, the present continuously becomes the future.

We already have that it is difficult to carry out a corporal, but we do not have that ourselves, neither what we are now nor in the morning, it is only a memory,

To Nashville-based Adrienne Young, it's everyday choices - not grand gestures - that add up to a virtuous life. Fusing past and present in her pop-inflected old time music, Young applies a worldly compassion, poet's pen, and spirit of self-reliance to all of her original songs. Room to Grow, her current release, views timeless questions through modern spectacles, using traditional instruments to express contemporary compositions. Young expands upon the themes of cultivation and stewardship so beautifully asserted on her acclaimed debut, Plow to the End of the Row, and sophomore release, The Art of Virtue.

Wat Si Phan Ton is known for its beautiful architecture and the use of gold-colored sheet metal to cover the buildings and structures. This gives the temple its distinctive shiny golden appearance, which contributed to its nickname Golden Temple. Buddhist monks live in Wat Si Phan Ton, including the venerable monk Chao Abbot. In Thai temples such as Wat Si Phan Ton, monks perform several roles: Prayer and Meditation, Buddha's Teachings, Community Service, and Almsgiving. Monks may be involved in community service, such as providing spiritual guidance to those in need, attending ceremonial events, and providing moral support. They follow a strict set of precepts and devote their lives to the pursuit of spiritual development, meditation and spreading the Buddha's teachings. Monks spend a significant portion of their time in prayer and meditation. This enables them to achieve inner peace and gain profound insights. Monks can be involved in community service, such as providing spiritual guidance to those in need, attending ceremonial events, and providing moral support. In Buddhism, it is considered virtuous to give food and donations to monks. Monks often enter the community early in the morning to receive alms as a way to promote spiritual connection. Monks lead a simple lifestyle and have minimal material possessions. They wear traditional orange robes and shave their heads as a sign of renunciation of worldly vanity. Wat Si Phan Ton is not only a place of worship, but also a cultural and historical site.

Wat Si Phan Ton is a striking Buddhist temple located in Nan, Thailand, and it is sometimes affectionately referred to as the Golden Temple because of its dazzling golden appearance. At the entrance of the temple you will find two impressive 6-headed statues of golden dragons, which play an important role in the local culture and symbolism. Also called "nagas", these golden dragons are mythical creatures that feature prominently in Southeast Asian mythology and religion. They are often associated with water and fertility and are considered to have protective powers. Nagas can be found in many Buddhist temples and shrines, often in the form of statues, paintings or reliefs. The golden dragons at the entrance of Wat Si Phan Ton in Nan serve as symbols of protection and prosperity for those who visit the temple. Enjoying the warm Thai sun surrounded by the lively street life and the Golden Temple, we decided to cool off at the local ice cream shop. The cheerful ice cream vendor greeted us with a wide smile and offered an array of colorful ice creams ranging from bold tropical flavors to classic refreshers. With the sun warming our skin, we opted for delicious coconut lime ice creams. The ice cream tasted delicious.

Point Reyes State Marine Reserve, considered one of the windiest places on the planet. It's so windy that you rarely see trees here, and the only trees you will see are called the Monterey cypress and is one of several species of cypress trees endemic to California. One of the coolest attractions to see here is the leaning tree of Point Reyes. The tree was shaped by the extreme wind conditions that caused it to bend with the landscape and look odd. However, that just not the only possible photo opportunity here. There is also the Point Reyes lighthouse, which can look quite dramatic if you catch it on a fogless day.

My subject for today's post is a bit different, and it’s the coast itself. Thankfully my first visit to Point Reyes seashore was on a frigid and windy November morning, so no fog. As the sunset approached, I noticed that the evening sun's golden light was illuminating the grassland behind the leaning tree in spectacular light. The problem was that the scene demanded a tele focal length, and at the time, I only had a 12-24 DX lens. I composed the shot the best I can using the available gear, but this incident was very instrumental in picking up a used 70-200 f4.

Ideally, at a scene like this, I would compose the shot with a tele lens focusing on the cliff's surf and dramatic nature. Since that was not an option and the day's definite star was the light, I decided to use the composition to bring attention to light's quality at the scene.

Last shot of this lovely Christmas village, I will be back to shoot the caves sometime.

The small medieval town of Valkenburg aan de Geul in the Dutch province of Limburg is characterized by history, living culture, and modern tourism. The main square is lined with buildings that are centuries old, which are under historical preservation, as well as boutiques, cafés, a river, and, since recently, a newly restored city gate.

Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran... Cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate. This visage no mere veneer of vanity is a vestige of the vox populi now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by go vexetation stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violations of volition. The only verdict is vengeance, a vendetta... Held as a votive not in vain, for the value and veracity of such... Shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose. So let me simply add that it’s my very good honor to meet you... And you may call me V.

"Voila !

The first mention of Den Halder as a fortification tower appears in a deed from 1381 of the Duke of Brabant , which Valkenburg captured after a few weeks of siege. The first known inhabitant is Peter van Ellerhorn, mentioned in 1573 . Den Halder was apparently already an inhabited defense tower or donjon . Den Halder only became a real castle in the beginning of the 17th century, in particular because of the large renovation that Gerard van Meer commissioned in 1635. Near the castle belonged a farm, an oil mill , a large orchard and other lands, and a few ponds.

In 1739 , the Maastricht ships Peter Boomhouwer bought the Van Meers castle, and then resold it to the mayor of Wezet . The castle changed owners in succession, until in 1804 the Van Pallandt family, known in Limburg, sold it to Bertrand Loisel , a Frenchman who brought it to Burgomaster in Valkenburg. The oil and flour mill belonging to the castle on the Lindenlaan also came into his hands and was rebuilt under his leadership. Since then the mill is known as the Fransche Molen .

Because Valkenburg developed into a holiday and health resort in the 19th century, there was a great need for building land for hotels and country houses. A part of the estate was purchased by the municipality and arranged as a park. The Valkenburger Habets became the new owner of the castle and had it thoroughly restored. Then the De Casalette and Rooding families were owners, with the castle being used as an office. It suffered considerable damage during the Second World War . After the war, the castle was bought by the municipality and refurbished. It became the home of the regional museum of Valkenburg and then of the provincial VVV of Limburg.

Siege and conquest were characteristic of the history of Valkenburg, and the town's centre holds plenty of evidence of former grandeur. The castle in the middle of the city - of which now only a ruin remains - was destroyed in December 1672. Only two city gates (the Berkelpoort and the Grendelpoort) and a part of the city walls survived destruction and both have been thoroughly restored in recent years.

In 1853 a railway station was built on a line connecting the two cities of Maastricht and Aachen, making it possible to discover the charming little town of Valkenburg.

Nowadays Valkenburg is famous for its cycling events and its touristic character. There are several attractions to be found within walking distance of the city centre, and the many hotels, restaurants and café's cater to domestic and international travellers of all ages.

Den Halder Castle lies on the river Geul, the river flows along the rear wall of the castle. The castle is built from Limburg marl and consists of a rectangular building, built in 1635 on a 15th century defense tower. This Haldertoren is a square donjon, which later functioned as a stair tower . The largely 17th century house was changed in the 18th century. Next to the castle is a public city park, the Halderpark, which is being reconstructed in 2014, for example to make the city canal visible again.

The ruins on the top of the hill on the left are the ruins of the castle where Richard the Lionhearted was imprisoned in Austria.

Dürnstein was first mentioned in 1192, when, in the castle above the town, King Richard I of England was held captive by Leopold V, Duke of Austria after their dispute during the Third Crusade. Richard the Lionheart had personally offended Leopold the Virtuous by casting down his standard from the walls at the Battle of Acre, and the duke suspected that King Richard ordered the murder of his cousin Conrad of Montferrat in Jerusalem. In consequence Pope Celestine III excommunicated Leopold for capturing a fellow crusader. The duke finally gave the custody of the king to Emperor Henry VI, who imprisoned Richard at Trifels Castle. Dürnstein Castle was almost completely destroyed by the troops of the Swedish Empire under Field Marshal Lennart Torstenson in 1645.

These glands of sunlight pulsate before me

giving more than the mere light I can see

it's the lifeblood, a paen of deepest Summer

that which supplies a heartbeating drummer

in choral waves across the walden hills

teasing ploughlines a vessel for harvesting mills

that time of year again, on a crest of a wave

when all one's senses unto Nature behave

it wasn't so long ago...indeed still filling my thoughts

with a fragrancy so virtuous it deeply exhorts

those warm comforting moments over these so chilling and frail

a shiver...is frabjous or just a bitter present wind that can impale

my wishes, and desires to feel what makes me happy

it's a basic need for this here chappy...

oh that dextrous day under the beautiful guardianship -

of Deutscher Sonnenschein, entered my gladship

in the vale's cradle of golden-hued sunbaked beauty

my eyes did neither deceive nor perceive the true equity

of that day of all days, upon the hill of countless detail

bales and pales, straw and smoke, into the continuing trail

like a quartan passing, rude health lies in wake

it's overnight passage is safe and free of memory ache

ready and willing to be written of in positive tomes

posing as it does for a snapshot of summery homes

living forevermore every second intake of breath

for the first was a living death-

that has been exhaled once and for all, totally expunged

over there where the glorious sunlight plunged.

Why do we love days of commemoration so much, yet when it comes time to truly make a difference, Mrs. Hypocrisy reappears with her polite smile?

Why do we hurt others and then justify it by saying we do it “out of love,” to defend values, ideas, convictions… while forgetting humanity?

Why does no one ever question their own actions, and everything that doesn’t conform is immediately deemed “wrong”?

Why does a judgment spread more easily than a thought?

Viruses spread. Bad habits do too.

There are countless more questions to ask. But thinking—really thinking—seems almost revolutionary nowadays.

Posts full of hearts and moral phrases often act as collective anesthetics: they give the illusion of doing good without changing anything. Comfort on the surface: lighting a candle to feel virtuous, without looking at the darkness that flame is supposed to illuminate.

When we hurt “out of love”—for a value, a faith, a country, an idea—we are really defending our identity. Love, disguised as justification, becomes a weapon against the discomfort of doubt. Doubt is uncomfortable: it uproots, disorients, destabilizes. Many prefer dogma over the effort of authenticity.

Absolute certainty is a powerful mental virus: it spreads through the approving gaze of the group and grows in the fear of being alone or “different.” Thinking deeply often means losing a bit of belonging. Not everyone is ready for that freedom.

Those who pause to reflect see how much common belief is made of painted cardboard. And in that very moment, the real chance to make a difference arises: not against the world, but differently from it.

How can we keep thought alive in a society that values commemoration more than conscience?

Truciolo, Sándor Márai

"(...) we do not love so much what is beautiful, good and virtuous, but rather everything that is repressed, imperfect, restless, and that protests by gnashing his teeth - everything that is not virtue and condescension, but is instead imperfection and rebellion".

Taken as a Christmas present to please his bourgeois wife, the dog Truciolo turns out to be more difficult to manage than expected. This novel is antithetical to "My Dog Tulip" by J.R. Ackerley: there an idyllic story between owner and dog, with Ackerley finding the ideal friend in the dog, here a series of misunderstandings, mistakes and stupid misunderstandings that ruin everything and lead to a sad epilogue. Together with Virginia Woolf's book, "Flush, biography of a dog", "Truciolo" and the aforementioned book by Ackerley are for me an unmissable triad for readers who love dogs ("Truciolo" however is the bitter morsel).

This morning I had three message requests on my Instagram profile. Firstly, the correspondent had noticed my keen interest in angling and wanted to know whether I’d like to test some of their gear. How they knew this I’ve really no idea, because I’ve never touched a fishing rod in my life. The only enthusiasm I’ve ever displayed for fishing is watching Whitehouse and Mortimer on the BBC and ordering cod and chips at the local once in a while. The second potential suitor was bursting with enthusiasm at my love of fashion and wondered whether I’d like to do a bit of modelling for them. Again…..well if you’ve seen me, you may well have noticed that my chances of taking to the catwalks of London, Milan and Paris are pretty slim. The likelihood of me actually wanting to take to the catwalks of London, Milan and Paris are, if anything, even more remote. Thirdly, a young lady - oh so shy and awkward she was - wanted to “get to know me better.” She’d seen my profile and knew I was the one. The fact that she was nineteen and I was more than three times her age didn’t appear to dampen her ardour. “My parents still look at my phone,” she told me coyly, “so could we hook up on Snapchat?”

But this wasn’t a day for fishing, fashion or erm, consorting with Nigerian “businessmen” - I mean charming young ladies - so I passed up on the opportunity to go angling in the Fal wearing Jodhpurs and a Bolero jacket with a teenage beauty queen cheering me on from the riverbank, deleted the messages - yes, even that one! - and prepared for a date with a very slightly more mature lady. Oh yes, the one I live with, for better or worse, for richer and quite a lot poorer after paying the balance on the autumn holiday in Rhodes and all that. Because we were going out on a Monday afternoon jolly to Mousehole of all places - that’s Mowzle to you - rhyming with Tousle not Mosul. Keeping up? And what’s more, we have a voucher. Or rather a voucher code. Or perhaps just a long string of alphanumeric text that Ali’s niece says is a voucher.

Where does Ali’s niece come into it? Well Lowenna does love the finer things in life. And she wants us to love them too. If we tell her we’re having lunch in a supermarket cafe, she’ll pull a face and say she’d prefer to starve. She’d rather dine at the posh nosh place on the waterfront and pay fifty quid a head for the pleasure, while the waiting staff fawn over her and ask her if everything is perfect. Which is fine - we applaud this. We’re glad she does so. Someone needs to be spending their money to keep the economy rolling. At the same time she often asks us how we retired in our fifties, and the answer is a simple one. We don’t eat at the fifty pounds a head bistro. We never have and we never would. The thought of being fussed over like a pair of prize winning poodles at Crufts is enough to send us racing for the exits before the aperitifs arrive. Never mind the prospect of how much it might cost. But every so often, as a reward for looking after Lowenna’s nine year old son every Wednesday after school, Ali is presented with a voucher. Or a voucher code. Or an alphanumeric string which may or may not even work.

The thing is, even with a voucher that will cover most of the bill, we’re still not that keen. We’ve both looked at the online menu several times and tutted and sighed at the gargantuan prices for a toasted crab sandwich that doesn’t even come with chips. But today we were going to rise to the challenge, bite the bullet and reach for the rose marie sauce. Until we stopped at Morrison’s near Penzance as the rain started and abandoned the entire thing in favour of you know where. Two meals for twelve pounds, with a Meerkat meals membership that’s down to nine pounds, a pot of tea for me and Ali only ever drinks water. She’s annoyingly virtuous. If you ever meet her, don’t waste your time offering her tea or coffee because in all the years I’ve known her, I’ve seen her drink half a cup of the latter just once before passing the rest to me. To my knowledge she’s never touched a cup of tea in her life. Ten pounds and forty-six pence for the lot, and best of all we were happy. We hadn’t spent much and nobody was treating us as if we couldn’t even pull a chair from under a table by ourselves. I’ve long held the belief that people with high standards are going to spend an awful lot more time in life being disappointed than those of us who are easy to please.

But now we were down here, we might as well go on with the second part of today’s plan, which was to park the car on the road into Mousehole, then walk the coast path to Lamorna and back. I’d forgotten how tough this section was. If we’d attempted this after a solitary crab sandwich served without chips, I might have refused the first hill out of Mousehole, but fortified by an all day breakfast it was a breeze. Well, sort of anyway. I’m still waiting for Morrison’s to get in touch via Instagram with a proposal to promote their cafe. If that ever happens, then maybe I won’t delete the message and block the sender like I normally do. Meanwhile, we still have to use that voucher. “Are you enjoying your crab sandwich sir?” “Not really. Where's the chips?”

Valkenburg aan de Geul is a touristic place in the south of the province Limburg. Characteristic is the castle ruin on top of the hill and the main streets in the centre of Valkenburg have café’s, restaurants and pubs.

Valkenburg history: Siege and conquest are part of the history of Valkenburg, but Valkenburg has been independent for long time. The Valkenburg castle on top of the hill was destroyed in 1672 by troops from Holland, being afraid that French troops would conquer the castle. It never was rebuilt. Also the Valkenburg city wall was destroyed and only two gates remain.

Valkenburg sightseeing: Tourism in Valkenburg became important in the 19th century. Tourists like the scenery around Valkenburg that is suited for walks and (mountain) bike tours, but Valkenburg itself offers a lot too. Valkenburg has several caves, historical buildings, a wellness resort and casino. For dining or a drink you have to be in the Grote Straat Centrum or Muntstraat. A very cosy area until night. In winter the Valkenburg Christmas market inside the caves are very popular among tourists.

Located in the charming valley of the Geul River, Valkenburg is a small, old town that is a very popular summer resort, attracting holidaymakers with its landscape of gently rolling hills, its great leisure parks and numerous amusements. The little historic nucleus is still guarded by two of its original gates with walkways and vestiges of its seigniorial castle. There are also many caves in the hills surrounding the town.

this was taken from my study window as I am spring cleaning (having not done this since we moved in 3.5 years ago, it isn't as virtuous as it sounds) but unfortunately before I had finished the series I was phoned by the social worker in Gloucester so had to put my camera down

this year I bought a bumper bag of meal worms and a large bag of suet covered meal worms for

robins, the wren, bluetits, sparrows, blackbirds, finches, jays etc

and hope they visit before the

starlings, magpies and pigeons

and hope they visit before the squirrels and foxes.

Christopher is now back in his flat and has been visited by manager of the retirement flats, a bridging careworker and Caroline, my sister-in-law. Fingers crossed all remains well.

Along the river Geul you arrive at Den Halder Castle, originally a defense tower that formed part of the defensive works of the city. The castle as we see it today, dates from 1635 and it is built in the typical marlstone extracted from the underground mines of the region. In 1804 the castle was bought by a French family who also built an oil and flour mill which is since then known as de Franse Molen or French mill.

[here you can see respectable folk

keeping to God's own laws.

so far he hasn't taken heed.

you who sit safe and warm indoors

help to relieve out bitter need.

how virtuously we had begun.

the world however did not wait

but soon observed what followed on.

it's fear of god that brought us to that state

how fortunate the man with none]

For some reason, which perhaps has a lot to do with their ragged appearance and the sepia-esque palette of apparel, the Coprinus comatus touch some ineffably nostalgic cords in me, as if they were a portal to another dimension, one where wistfulness and longing reign, paradoxically intertwined with an absolute acceptance of the present.

Even so, I am not quite sure why a poem by John Donne, which I read 25 years ago, came to mind as I pondered over this group:

A Valediction: Forbidding Mourning

by John Donne

As virtuous men pass mildly away,

And whisper to their souls to go,

Whilst some of their sad friends do say

The breath goes now, and some say, No:

So let us melt, and make no noise,

No tear-floods, nor sigh-tempests move;

'Twere profanation of our joys

To tell the laity our love.

Moving of th' earth brings harms and fears,

Men reckon what it did, and meant;

But trepidation of the spheres,

Though greater far, is innocent.

Dull sublunary lovers' love

(Whose soul is sense) cannot admit

Absence, because it doth remove

Those things which elemented it.

But we by a love so much refined,

That our selves know not what it is,

Inter-assured of the mind,

Care less, eyes, lips, and hands to miss.

Our two souls therefore, which are one,

Though I must go, endure not yet

A breach, but an expansion,

Like gold to airy thinness beat.

If they be two, they are two so

As stiff twin compasses are two;

Thy soul, the fixed foot, makes no show

To move, but doth, if the other do.

And though it in the center sit,

Yet when the other far doth roam,

It leans and hearkens after it,

And grows erect, as that comes home.

Such wilt thou be to me, who must,

Like th' other foot, obliquely run;

Thy firmness makes my circle just,

And makes me end where I begun.

You can find the old fortified town of Valkenburg at a distance of only 12 kilometres from Buitenplaats de Mechelerhof. For many middle-aged and older people, Valkenburg was the former holiday destination of the Netherlands, but many teens also visited Valkenburg with his or her teen tour of the NS. However, Valkenburg nowadays is the place to be in the south of Limburg. The former fortress town is nestled between the hills of South Limburg in the middle of the hill land. The fortified town already lays for hundreds of years between big cities such as Luik, Aken en Maastricht. If you stay at Buitenplaats the Mechelerhof, then Valkenburg, or Valkenburg at the Geul as it is officially named is definitely worth visiting. Until today, you can find in Valkenburg traces of its rich past. Besides the remains of ancient city walls, there are also gates that have been restored to its former glory as the Geulpoort, the main gate of the old city and the Gendelpoort. Special and typical for this region is the old coalmine

A cultural symbol originating in Japan, the three wise monkeys—one covering his eyes, one his ears, and one his mouth—are known by their names Mizaru, Kikazaru, and Iwazaru. They symbolize the proverbial saying, “See no evil. Hear no evil. Speak no evil”.

In the East, the image is a reminder to follow a morally upright path by avoiding evil in every form. The three monkeys is a positive symbol that reminds one to be pure and virtuous by not engaging in negative and destructive behaviours.

However, in the West, this symbol is used in a completely different way. Here, the image of the three wise monkeys represents turning a blind eye to something morally or legally wrong so as to avoid accountability and responsibility.

The proverbial saying behind the three wise monkeys predates its physical representation. It originated in ancient China, and then found its animal representation in Japan, and eventually became popular in the West.

During the Warring States period of China, around 475 to 221 BCE, the Analects of Confucius included the proverb:

“Look not at what is contrary to propriety; listen not to what is contrary to propriety; speak not what is contrary to propriety; make no movement which is contrary to propriety.”

A picture of a Kathakali artist is what introduces Kerala to every outsider. Kathakali is an important genre in the Indian classical dance form. Mythological stories and epics are depicted through excellent footwork and impressive gestures of face and hands complimented with music and vocal performance. The intricate and vivid make-up, unique face masks and costumes worn by dancers makes it more unique and interesting. There is a color code that is followed for different characters. A green ‘Pacha’ make-up and brightly coral red coloured lips depicts gods, sages and noble characters. A ‘Minukku’ make-up using orange, saffron or yellow colour depicts virtuous and good female characters. A divine or virtuous character is represented with a white beard. Special characters like Jatayu and Garuda are adorned with a ‘Teppu’ make-up, while ‘Kari’ (black) is the code for demons. The most commonly seen is the chracters with elaborate headgear, green makeup with white beard. The artist in this picture is playing the role of a female character and hence the orange makeup.

Those pieces of ice are slowly reaching the bottom of the glacier after centuries of a slow picturesque descend.

Let's hope the virtuous cycle of water will take them back to the top. And again. And again. And again.

No one can get tired of that spectacle, not even the future generations.

"It is simply impossible to lead, without the aid of prayer, a virtuous life."

~ St. John Chrysostom

Excerpt from tzdubrovnik.hr:

The complex of St. Claires Convent is situated behind the Large Onofrios Fountain.

One of the best known among eight convents at the time, it was the place where mainly the girls of noble birth were ordained. It was built during the 13th and 14th century, when a great care was taken in order to ensure the virtuous life of the nuns, yet the following centuries witnessed major restorations.

The convent housed a shelter for abandoned children already in the 13th century, whereas in 1432 the city authorities established one of the oldest orphanages there. The Orphanage building with an inscription in Latin language above the door and the window where the unwanted children used to be left can still be seen in the nearby Zlatarićeva Street.

The Napoleons authorities closed the convent and turned it into an ammunition store-house and stable. The convent complex is nowadays used for various purposes.

I would hope that the future would have an international community that's not just bent on commerce, but that's focused on refugees, of all kinds and from all places. We don't know that won't happen in the U.S. someday. It literally could be a crisis from climate change, or anything. I think there needs to be a global focus on people taking care of people.

Chris Cornell

In countries where people have to flee their homes because of persecution and violence, political solutions must be found, peace and tolerance restored, so that refugees can return home. In my experience, going home is the deepest wish of most refugees.

Angelina Jolie

While every refugee's story is different and their anguish personal, they all share a common thread of uncommon courage - the courage not only to survive, but to persevere and rebuild their shattered lives.

Antonio Guterres

I simply don't understand the refugee crisis. The history of humanity can be told through a story of migration and settlement. If I can't protect my family, I'm coming to where you are; I'm just coming. It's a round world, and we've all got to get on with it and move on.

Paul Bettany

Displaced societies are of value. Their issues are our issues.

Cynthia Basinet

The challenge of ending displacement is inseparable from the challenge of establishing and maintaining peace. When wars end, farmers return to their fields; children return to school; violence against women declines; trade and economic activity resume; medical and other services become more accessible, and the international focus changes from relief to development and self-sufficiency. All this makes new wars less likely. It is a virtuous cycle that deserves nurture and support.

Kenneth Bacon

Our power knows no limits, yet we cannot find food for a starving child, or a home for a refugee. Our knowledge is without measure and we build the weapons that will destroy us. We live on the edge of ourselves, terrified of the darkness within. We have harmed, corrupted and ruined, we have made mistakes and deceived.

John le Carre

Thank you for your kind visit. Have a wonderful and beautiful day! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

Valkenburg is no longer a fortified town but it has largely retained its historical charm, although the town suffered heavily from mass tourism in the 1960s, 70s and 80s. The municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul still hosts more than 1 million overnight stays a year. The present aim of the council of Valkenburg is to move away from mass tourism and emphasize "the natural and historical beauty of the town

In order to attract more "quality tourism" a plan was made called Vestingstad Valkenburg (Fortification Town Valkenburg). Included in the plan were the rebuilding of Geulpoort, a 14th-century city gate that was demolished along with the castle in the 17th century, the restoration of two other surviving city gates, and the reconstruction of the defensive moat along the Medieval wall in Halderpark. More or less simultaneously initiated was the redevelopment of the town's shopping district, to be finished in 2016.

A few years ago we could enjoy the exchange of coal from Renfe trains (Iberian gauge) to Feve trains (metric gauge). All work was starred in an excavator, virtuously handled by an experienced operator. Interestingly, coal came from Russia or Australia and was transported to the power station of Velilla, a town that had several coal mines...

Valkenburg is a city in the south of the Netherlands, usually buzzing with visitors. It has been a major domestic tourist destination for decades and packed with hotels, bars and restaurants. The crowds that gather here in summer partly come for the town's interesting historic sights but also for the general atmosphere and facilities. Christmas is the second high season here, with plenty of decorations up from the start of November and famous Christmas markets in December. In many ways, Valkenburg as a town seems to encourage visitors to just have a good time.

Happy is the man who can with virtuous wing

Mount to those luminous serene fields!

The man whose thoughts, like larks,

Take liberated flight toward the morning skies

Who hovers over life and understands without effort

The language of flowers and voiceless things!
