Lethe, the river of forgetfulness, was one of the five rivers of the Greek underworld, the other four being Styx, Acheron (the river of sorrow), Cocytus (the river of lamentation) and Phlegethon (the river of fire). According to Statius, it bordered Elysium, the final resting place of the virtuous. O'er the bounding main. Well, it wasn't really bounding. But, I suppose, you'd still want to watch out for those rocks! This photo was taken from the clifftops near Porthcurno Beach in Cornwall, England. At the centre top of the cliffs in the image (hover over the picture for a note to appear) is Logan Rock which is an example of a 'rocking stone'. It weighs 90 tons but because it is finely balanced, one used to be able to set it rocking using only a single hand. Apparently, and for reasons that make a good read in Wikipedia, it isn't as easy to get moving these days. In 1759, William Mason wrote about Logan Rock in his epic poem 'Caractacus' :

Vischering Castle was built by Bischop Gerhard von der Mark to counter the second castle built by the Von Lüdinghausen family. It became the seat of the Droste zu Vischering Family. Droste is the local title for the hereditary noble administrators serving the Bishops of Münster. The moat is constantly replenished by a side-arm of the River Stever. The outer defensive courtyard contains the business and farm buildings. The main building is a horseshoe-shaped three-story structure with heavy outer wall. Its inner courtyard is closed off by the chapel and a lower defense wall. A castle keep is missing, having been removed during Renaissance renovations. Fire destroyed the castle in 1521. Rebuilding took place on the existing foundation. Windows and the addition of a large bay made the castle more liveable but diminished its defensive character. The whole site however retains the character of a feudal age moated castle.

Lüdinghausen boasts three castles and a very scenic village to walkabout the Altstadt, the concentration of castles in this part of North Rhine-Westphalia is the highest in Germany which is saying a lot.
The castles in the Münster region are typically Wasserschloss or moated and the castle pictured here is no exception, Burg Vischering or the fishermans castle as I have dubbed it due to its owners love for the sport.
It would not have been surprising to find out the moat was kept stocked with fish during his day and I can imagine almost seeing a fishing pole thrust out one of the moat side windows while basking in the sun.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and is a holy month of fasting and considered auspicious. It is celebrated as the month during which Prophet Muhammad received the initial revelations of what became the Quran, from God. Muslims fast from dawn to dusk each day during Ramadan to purify the soul and have empathy towards the less privileged. They offer prayers and encourage charity. Ramadan teaches self-control and self-reflection. Eid al-Fitr is celebrated marking the end of the month of Ramadan.
This Eid, let us plead for the well-being of our earth and lead with integrity.
