Male Hooded Merganser with his catch of the day on the Rideau River, in Ottawa.

Unfortunately for him, he seemed to be struggling with the fish, trying to flip it to align with his throat but the fish eventually escaped. Good day for the fish. Not so much for the merganser.

Impressions of India – 38

This is another picture taken early in the morning inside the Ahichhatragarh Fort (Fort of the Hooded Cobra), in Nagaur, India.

The Ahhichatragarh Fort is in the center of Nagaur city, which had witnessed the courage of “Rao Amar Singh Rathor” who confronted the powerful Mughal kingdom. The Nagaur Fort was constructed by the originators of Nagaur in line with the Vaastu shastra. This fort has dual walls and is bordered by a profound surge. The frontier of this fort is around 5000 ft lengthwise. The Nagaur Fort has 2 parallel frontier walls and 28 security towers.

This is a re-edit of a shot taken back in 2009. I am uploading a lot of photos to viewbug.com, and having to increase dpi and file size on them, and I found that for some reason, the site won't let me pull from my home computer, so I've been taking the images right off Flickr after reposting them there. If they look familiar to you, they just might be! If you've been looking at my work for a long time, you might recall these shots. I hope you will like them, anyway, and they will be a new experience for those who haven't seen all my albums yet! I'll be off Flickr most of the time as I've had tons of transitioning to do, moving hundreds of photos, editing, and trying to go to work in the meantime. Not enough hours in the day...

Just bought this awesome figure for my nephew and I couldn't resist the temptation of buying one for myself...and here is the first picture of the series hehe. I used a flash to paint it and to get this nice contrast from the side. Still can be improved but I'll do it during my 52 weeks challenge as there is one about light paiting and he's the perfect subject. Watch this space for more.

Thank you all for your appreciation.

About the Pub

Small pub on an old corner site, adapted from one of the Blackfriars Monastery’s gateways and most recently rebuilt about 1865. Its shape recreates that of a cockpit and fighting cock prints adorn the walls. (It was renamed the Three Castles in 1849 when cockfighting was prohibited, reverting in 1970.) Enter by the corner door to a drinking area with a curved bar up a few stairs; galleries above are inaccessible

From the archives. An empty bridge/hall yet full of geometrical patterns and shapes.I can't remember exactly where but I think it was near the conventional centre.

Have a good weekend :)

By chance, I rediscovered images taken during a first RedBubble Meetup (with members of the "Welcome Pennsylvania" group).

Figure why not reprocess these HDRs with my current software and post-processing workflow.

This is where I first met Lori Deiter. And just by chance,

Tim Devine was there shooting the falls!

Gorumara National Park is located in Dooars. It lies in the Himalayan foothills and has great natural beauty. The park is located on the bank of rivers Murti and Raidak and has vegetation of riverine grasslands interspersed with savannah woodlands. Much of the forest is moist deciduous. Sal (shorea robusta) is the most common and valuable tree. Teak, simul, siris, khair are also found here.

Gorumara was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1949 and a National Park in 1992.

This is a picture from the top of the dunes in Natal. Just amazing how the blue of the sky collides with the sand. It looks like a cartoon to me. Even if it looks amazing, I wouldn't be there for long as it was more than 40 degrees there, really scorching.

Kinkakuji (金閣寺, Golden Pavilion) is a Zen temple in northern Kyoto whose top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf. Formally known as Rokuonji, the temple was the retirement villa of the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, and according to his will it became a Zen temple of the Rinzai sect after his death in 1408. Kinkakuji was the inspiration for the similarly named Ginkakuji (Silver Pavilion), built by Yoshimitsu's grandson, Ashikaga Yoshimasa, on the other side of the city a few decades later.

One of the things I was looking forward to in Portugal was the possibility of seeing storks. They can be seen in towns, on roofs and chimneys and in fields along the roads. They might be common there but here in Canada, we don't have any. This photo was captured along the road. I had stopped to take some pictures when I spotted a few storks in a field and in nests.

In a nest was this one couple. At some point they started to make noise with their beaks. The birds make these sounds by rapidly opening and closing their beaks so that a knocking sound is made each time the beak closes. The clattering is amplified by its throat pouch, which acts as a resonator. It is used in a variety of social interactions. In this case, it was a prelude to copulation. After a minute or two of beak clattering, the male got up, flew over the female and then mounted her. I was really happy to have been able to witness that scene.

Enjoy your week-end.

Bon week-end.

A couple of guys run a small show in central park where they gather people to form a queue and then jump it. I managed to take this one from the series and I'm pleased with the results. Just the amount of energy and strength needed to perform this jump is something that I can't even imagine.
