2 October 2020: Update on The Corona Pandemic – After a wait of 493 days since the last federal election, Belgium has a new government and a new prime minister: Alexander De Croo (Flemish liberal). De Croo will spearhead a coalition of 7 parties (the Flemish and Francophone liberals, the Flemish and Francophone socialists, the Flemish and French greens and the Flemish Christian democrats) in steering our country through the aftershocks of the pandemic. Ideologically these parties have very little in common and many people are saying that the main motivation to unite the seven parties was the desire to avoid new elections and by doing so avoiding that the extreme right and extreme left would further gain ground. The work that awaits this patchwork political project is immense. The impact of the coronavirus has been huge; we just crossed the 10,000-death mark and the economy has been shattered. The long period since the previous government fell and the long time the negotiations lasted, resulted in many people turning their backs to politics. Therefore, the biggest challenge of all for the government will be to restore faith and confidence in the leadership of our country. Let’s hope they succeed and that the screeching policy zigzags we’ve experienced since the start of the pandemic are brought to a grinding halt. I must say the Apple AirPod Pro is my Apple accessory number one. Mostly as companion to my iPhone 14 Pro but also very useful during videocall when the MacBook lid is closed and have reduced audio - here the AirPod comes very handy ....

I'm going back to the start.

Today was a pretty nice day. I woke up at 1pm, had lunch, shared a videocall with one of my BFFs and made a photoshoot. You should've seen the sky at the lake after twilight. It was amazing: the clouds were red, sometimes ending in purple tones. It was beautiful. I was blogging when i suddenly looked outside and saw it: i ran away, literally. xd

I apologize for the awful definition and noise and focus and everything. I really need that remote! :c

i had "first date jitters", skyping a flickrfriend, but kristin is SO lovely, the nervous went away. straight away you're talking and in each others homes. the boys made faces, enjoying looking at themselves more than anything, and casey is a cutie-pie.

it's been so wonderful to make a connection through our photography, and now we've "met" each other.

Last Christmas Day shot - this is our traditional lunchtime shot! We decided to buy a small turkey crown and chicken to share over a couple of days this year (which is pretty much what we usually do!) It would have been nice to have Christmas pud or a mince pie after, but there was really so much on our plates we didn't have room for another thing for a few hours after!

We hope you enjoyed your Christmas Day and have enjoyed a peaceful Boxing Day (if you celebrate the day where you are!)

My Great Adventure with Santa. It's a Christmas Story. by 'pixler'

Every year, at about this time, I get to ride along with Santa and the crew to check out his latest red machine the elves meticulously prepared during summer months. I must say this year's model has a lot more deer power under the hood, it's a rocket ship, this thing flies. We always do a trial run in Stealth Mode before the big day so that Santa doesn't have any surprises en route, he's way too busy meeting all the kids, delivering presents.

The crew installed a whole lot'a new stuff this year. They added a tuned quad-exhaust and upgraded the stereo to 7.1, complete with Bluetooth headsets, WiFi plus video calling via skype, cool. They strapped on a new supercharger and connected a bunch of other electronic goodies which put a huge smile on the big guy's face. He too loves toys. He's really just a big kid at heart.

Anyway, when we left Toronto, we circled the CN Tower a couple of times and headed out over the lake, straight to the Big Apple. We were there in no time. After a few loops ‘round Lady Liberty, we flew out over the Atlantic. Next stop; London. We dropped in to visit Big Ben for a cup'a. Nice chap. Always good to see the ol' man. After that, it was on to Paris, Moscow, Berlin, Rome, Budapest, Cairo, Hong Kong, Tokyo, you get the idea. We visit every city, village, town and country and if I didn't mention yours, I apologize, the list is endless.

And great big special thanks to the elves responsible for designing, engineering and fabricating this mechanical wonder each year, they call themselves; “The munchelfkins Pit Crew”. I'm not sure why they picked that name, but hey, it's their team, they can name it anything they want. They are, after all, the number one pit crew on this planet and deserve the right to be recognized in any way they want. In their history of serving the big guy, they’ve won many inter-galactic championships, received countless awards for their expertise and had only one minor mechanical issue which did not in any way prevent or interfere with Santa's Christmas mission.

So here’s a big bravo to the munchelfkins. Great job, you've really outdone yours'elves. ha!

I have a weekly video chat with my dear friend from Milano on Whatsapp, but I just hate when the phone is not in eye level.

I normally just use a huge pile of books for the mini tripod (Manfrotto Pixi), but why just use some studio gear ?

Here it is an Avenger C-stand with an extension arm and swivel adaptor. Works just perfect.

It seems increasingly natural to dress for videocalls now which is nice as there is more sense of sharing in these strange times! After another lovely long chat with Gia I have my first FaceTime tomorrow with Pamela (Skype breaks up a lot). In these days it is worthwhile increasing the range of videocall opportunities - we can get something good out of this pandemic!

This is the first of three Christmas Day images I'm sharing this year. I can imagine Christmas looked a lot like this this year, with families and friends not being able to see each other in person! With Matt married, it's usually just the three of us anyway, so things weren't that different to normal. Occasionally we'd have my Mum over on Christmas Day, but as we live locally, she would generally go to my sister's house, saying she should try and go there all the time she was well enough and she hoped I didn't mind!

We had 4 video chats yesterday:

Reason: It was almost 9 years ago I climbed up this mountain to enjoy the view over Bourg-Saint-Maurice from aside this little chapel Chapelle Saint-Michèl

Hike Facts: Started from hotel Angival at 9h05 and arrived at Chapelle Saint-Michel at 10h25 (1h25). Temperature when started -2° C and at arrival it as 4° C. Stayed in total 43 minutes to enjoy the view, had a drink, a stroopwafel and videocalled with my beloved one. Started my descent at 11h08 and arrived in the village at 12h15 (1h07). Distance is 2.6 kilometers and height difference 533 meters.

Weather: Sunny, +4° (maximum today was 9° C)
