En descendant la haute vallée de la Souloise -- à sec en cette saison -- depuis le col de Rabou, l'étroit sentier parcourt d'étonnants chaos rocheux constitués de plaques calcaires fracturées par l'érosion et les violents changements météorologiques : nous sommes en effet sur la partie est du pic de Bure, au pied de ses imposantes falaises qui comme aujourd'hui capturent les nuages. Quelques pierres entassées, presque invisibles à une cinquantaine de mètres du sentier, constituent dans ce cadre austère un abri contre le vent parfois très violent qui remonte depuis l'Isère.

288) Rufous Vented Niltava
Rufous-Vented Niltava, Niltava sumatrana, Sambar Perut Oren
This is a Niltava make it home up in the upper montane forest. Rarely seen, but can be found on top of Gunung Brinchang in Cameron Highland, also Gunung Korbu and probably Gunung Tahan. I can only manage a record shot for this rare bird, maybe a better luck for me next time.

I photographed this White-vented Plumeleteer (Chalybura buffonii) at Finca Ecoturística San Javier, in the vereda Chucuní near Ibagué, Tolima, Colombia. It is found in Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru, from sea level to about 2,000 meters. The male has a bluish green throat and belly and a blue breast. Its nest is a cup of plant down bound with spiderweb and covered outside with moss and lichen. In addition to nectar, it catches small arthropods by hawking from a perch. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.
I used a Canon R5 with the RF 800mm f/11 for this one, at 1/250 sec, f/11, ISO 3200, −0.5 EV. Finca San Javier offers guided birding as part of its work to help conserve the tropical dry forest of the Chucuní area.

I photographed this Steely-vented Hummingbird (Saucerottia saucerottei) in the Cincinati area above Minca, in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, Magdalena, Colombia, at about 1,480 meters. It is found in Colombia and Venezuela, mostly from sea level to 1,500 meters, and little is known about its diet. It was long placed in the genus Amazilia, and current eBird taxonomy puts it in Saucerottia. IUCN lists it as Least Concern. Adult males have greenish to steel-blue undertail coverts.
I made this frame with a Canon R5 and the RF 800mm f/11, at 1/180 sec, f/11, ISO 3200, −0.5 EV. The Sierra Nevada is the highest coastal range in the tropics, and its roughly 17,000 square kilometers feed 36 rivers across Magdalena, Cesar and La Guajira.

Oggi, 5 aprile, la strage di Bucha : uomini, donne, bambini, uccisi barbaramente, a caso, da un esercito in fuga.
È la prima volta che, grazie al coraggio dei reporters (ne sono già morti otto in un mese) possiamo vedere queste scene di guerra. Scene terribili, che dovrebbero cambiare il nostro modo di vedere.
Ci si può ribellare all'assurdita' della guerra, della violenza a servizio del potere, all'orrore : abbiamo un'intelligenza e una ragione

I photographed this White-vented Plumeleteer (Chalybura buffonii) at Entreaguas Reserva Natural in Ibagué, Tolima, Colombia. It seems able to tolerate some habitat disturbance. It mostly forages by trap-lining, visiting a circuit of flowers, but it also defends rich patches aggressively. The male has a bluish green throat and belly and a blue breast. Its nest is a cup of plant down bound with spiderweb, with moss and lichen on the outside. Ibagué, the capital of Tolima, sits on the Central Andes between the Combeima Canyon and the Magdalena valley, near Nevado del Tolima.
I made this frame with a Pentax K-1 and the HD Pentax-D FA 150-450mm f/4.5-5.6, at 1/250 sec, f/5.6, ISO 400, −1 EV. IUCN lists the White-vented Plumeleteer as Least Concern, with a decreasing population.

Na Serra do Montejunto - Portugal
No momento da foto estavam "soltando" o moinho, isto é, abrindo as pás.
Ao fazer essa foto no ano de 2007, esse antigo moinho português havia sido restaurado recentemente. Ele segue o modelo desenvolvido no tempo das caravelas, com as mesmas velas latinas dos barcos!
O senhor da carroça é um velho moleiro da vizinhança que ao ver o moinho pronto para girar chegou para acompanhar de perto a operação.

I photographed this Steely-vented Hummingbird (Saucerottia saucerottei) at Finca La Florida, at Kilometer 18 near Cali, Valle del Cauca, Colombia, at about 2,020 meters, in February 2021. It is named for the steel-blue undertail coverts of the adult male, whose plumage is otherwise golden green. Females are similar but have some white on the throat and grayish-brown undertail coverts. The species lives only in Colombia and Venezuela, and the subspecies saucerottei is found in western Colombia, including the Cauca River valley. IUCN lists it as Least Concern.
I made this frame with a Canon R5 and the RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L, at 1/500 sec, f/6.7, ISO 3200, −0.5 EV. The San Antonio cloud forest at Kilometer 18 is recognized as an Important Bird Area and a Key Biodiversity Area, with the Multicolored Tanager as its symbol species.

Jigokudani (地獄谷) or "Hell Valley" is a spectacular, appropriately named valley just above the town of Noboribetsu Onsen, which displays hot steam vents, sulfurous streams and other volcanic activity. It is a main source of Noboribetsu's hot spring waters.
