Here's another photo of the vent in Herne Bay. I laid on my back to get this low view. The camera was fitted with a circular polarising filter to strengthen the sky saturation.
I liked the strong circular and straight lines.
Hope you enjoy.

Chassiron - Ile d'Oleron.

Close-up of the inside of a block of ice

The yellow-vented bulbul (Pycnonotus goiavier), or eastern yellow-vented bulbul, is a member of the bulbul family of passerine birds. It is resident breeder in south-eastern Asia from Indochina to the Philippines. It is found in a wide variety of open habitats, but not deep forest. It is one of the most common birds in cultivated areas. They appear to be nomadic, roaming from place to place regularly.

Double-click on the image to enlarge, then find the soaring bird and the eagle's nest with eagle in residence FYI, for eleven years I never knew it was there!
The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River slices through an ancient hydrothermal basin. The basin developed in rhyolitic lava and ash that flowed into the Yellostone Caldera about 500,000 years ago. The river carved this spectacular canyon through the hardened lava (called "tuff"). Hot areas and steam vents still exist in the canton. They allow heat, gases, and hot water to escape from the underground Yellowstone Volcano.
On cool days, puffs of steam waft from vents near the bottom of the canyon. Rust-colored spl;otches on the canyon walls form when iron in the rhyolite is exposed to moisture and oxygen.
The canyon is about 20 miles long.
Parts of the canyon are nearly 1,200 feet deep.
The canyon is forever growing longer, geeper and wider.
Water erosion, rather than glaciation, sculpted the canyon.
Hydrothermal features are found along faults and fractures in the canyon wall.

I'm not sure about you but today sees the start of my holiday season. Oh yes! And so just in case some of you are rushing off for the holiday period, I want to take this opportunity to say thank you for making this year a very, very special one for me.
Over the last twelve month I have not only discovered a joy for photography, I've also 'met' many wonderful new friends. We have laughed together, teased each other, shared private thoughts, helped and coached each other - and this is all the more amazing when I think that this time last year I hadn't come across any of you!
Anyway, I'll shut up now except to say thank you once again and to wish you all a peaceful and restful time.
(Whoops, I nearly forgot to mention that this is an abstracted view of Vent, a street-level structure near Paternoster Square in the City of London, that serves as the ventilation shaft for an underground electricity sub station - and, to me, today, looks like a Christmas Tree! :)
