"Hall-Court" jigsaw puzzle no. 5.

Probably 1930s.
A tired box but still usable.
eBay purchase.
Strangely, this series has a random illustration on the lid with a note explaining which puzzle is contained within. On the base are illustrations of all the designs in the series.
Used an N8 neutral density filter for a minute long exposure to get the water to blur. This caused the bridge to come out a little blurry but Pier 17 came out clear enough to give some sense of the size of the Brooklyn Bridge. Overall I'm pleased with the way this turned out.
Probably could have used a weaker filter and gotten the same effect but live and learn.
Whoever decided to use the top of the cold drinks case for storage clearly forgot that it was completely visible from the upper floor... :) Additionally, I just noticed that the stained concrete floor already wasn't looking so great in this part of the store before the big rearrangement. Believe me, last time I was in this store it looked even worse!

Unlike most cookers, the natural mapping on this one means it doesn't need little symbols to describe which knob controls which hob.
Built in 1902, this depot was used by the Blackwell, Enid, & Southwestern Railroad and the St. Louis and San Francisco (Frisco) Railroad.
Charles E. Hunter, agent for the BES Townsite Company, made an agreement with the Gosnell townspeople to place the depot there if they would change the town's name to Frederick, after the son of railroad director Jacob C. Van Blarcom. The town offered several lots to the railroad, which immediately built a depot. The post office name was officially changed from Gosnell to Frederick on September 30, 1902.
This depot used to serve three passenger trains per day. After the automobile became popular, travel by train diminished and the depot closed to business.
The Frisco Depot was scheduled for demolition, but members of the Tillman County Historical Society and staff at the Tulsa office of the Frisco Railroad worked out a deal to save it. The depot was moved to this site in May 1985. The Pioneer Heritage Townsite Center also houses a 1902 Schoolhouse and other artifacts. There is a Frisco caboose also on this site next to the depot.
Scale used in art is based on the angle to make something appear larger or smaller. I think this photo is a great example of it because the hands are closer making them look larger giving it a dream like quality. The photo is called, "Me and Tennessee" (I look this photo), and without the scale use in this picture the idea would not have fully been reached across.

This site used to be a training area for the Belgian army. Loads of tanks and artillery were dumped there and were used in shooting excercises. Allthough the site is still military terrain it is not used anymore and unfortunately almost all tanks are gone.
Still a nice location to walk around for some time.

Most boats moored here face being sunk either by the 12 foot waves that come in off the sea during storms although the river floods (which exits through the harbour) are a greater hazard still to the ever optimistic mariners.

Messenger dog bringing a message to soldiers in a shell hole in France, during World War I. A dog-handler unfastening the collar of a messenger dog, so as to read the message that has been sent to his unit. Scrolled up messages placed inside waterproof containers would have been attached to the dogs collar, as it moved between units in the front line trenches.
Messenger dogs were recruited by the British Army from the famous Battersea Dogs' Home in London. The dogs were then taken to The War Dog Training School in Shoeburyness in England to be trained. Once their initial training was complete, the dogs then received a foreign posting to kennels at Etaples in France. After completing their training at Etaples, the dogs were transported to kennels close to the front line, where they would be allocated to individual regiments for active service.

The Piki are using a circumferential belt to create an attachment point for the poles that will be the basis of their walkway. Fiona uses a pair of screwdrivers (hand made from native Piki clay) to tighten the belt so that it cannot slip no matter how many Piki or Nooi stand on the walkway.
Roi Et is the province located in the middle part of north east Thailand, and established over 200 years ago. It used to be a very large and glorious city named Saket Nakhon having 11 city gates and 11 satellite cities or subordinated communities under it's ruling. Since there have been several developments in various aspects continuously from the past thus changing it into a strange place where one can hardly trace its original features.
Roi Et is administratively divided into 17 Amphoe's and two King Amphoe's: Muang Roi Et, Kaset Wisai, Pathum Rat, Chaturaphak Phiman, Thawat Buri, Phanom Phrai, Phon Thong, Selaphum, Suwannaphum, At Samat, Nong Phok, Muang Suang, Pho Chai, Phon Sai, Moeiwadi, Amphoe Si Somdet ,Amphoe Janghan, King Amphoe Chiang Khuan, king Amphoe Nong Hee and King Amphoe Tungkao Luang. There are partial areas of four Amphoe's located in Kula Ronghai Field, they are Suwannaphum, Kaset Wisai, Pathum Rat, Phon Sai. Roi Et occupies an area of 8,299.50 square kilometres.
The history of Muang Roi Et started around late Ayutthaya period, i.e., a king of Laos with his people migrated from Champasak City to settle down in the area which is currently Amphoe Suwannaphum. Later, during the reign of King Taksin of Thon Buri era Muang Roi Et was moved to the present site while Muang Suwannaphum is still located at its original location till now. In addition to historical evidences, there have been findings of archaeological evidences showing that the area used to be the habitat of pre-historic people. It was also under the influence of ancient Khmer kingdom due to several findings of Khmer style archaeological sites as Ku Phra Kona, Amphoe Suwannaphum; Ku Kasing, Amphoe Kaset Wisai; Prang Ku, Amphoe Thawatchaburi; etc.
Wat Buraphaphiram It is located in Roi Et city. The third class royal temple was formerly known as Wat Hua Ro and was later renamed as Wat Buraphaphiram. There is the tallest standing Buddha image in Thailand known as Phra Phuttha Rattanamongkhon Mahamuni or Luangpho Yai, which was built with reinforced concrete in the blessing attitude. The Buddha image is 59.2 metres tall and if the base is included, it would be 67.85 metres tall. There is a museum at the base. Luangpho Yai is highly revered by the people of Roi Et.
Somdet Phra Srinakarindra Park, Roi Et It is a public park in the heart of the city, located in front of the city hall. The park was founded in 1986 on an area of 225 rai. It is decorated with a variety of flowers and shady trees. The highlight is the fountain in the middle of the park and a clock tower. There is also a public library. The park is used as a venue for various cultural occasions and events of the province.
The Phra Maha Chedi Chai Mongkol or the Great, Victorious and Auspicious Pagoda is one of the largest Chedi's ( pagoda ) in Thailand. It is located on the grounds of the Wat Pha Namthip Thep Prasit Vararam, a temple complex in Roi Et province in rural North Eastern Thailand. This huge Chedi is 101 meters long, 101 metres wide and 101 metres high and was built on a plot measuring 101 Rai, which is about 40 acres. The number 101 comes from the name of the province it is located in, Roi Et, which means 101 in Thai. The Chedi, which is also known as Phra Maha Chedi Chai Mongkhon is highly revered in Roi Et province, since relics of the Buddha are contained in the top of the pagoda. The fairly new Chedi was designed by the Department of Fine Arts, and was built to serve as a centre of learning for Buddhist monks. The very elegantly shaped Chedi is painted in white colour and very elaborately decorated in golden coloured artwork in modern style. Surrounding the Chedi are eight smaller pagodas. The finial on top of the Chedi is made of 60 kilos of pure gold. The Chedi and temple are located on top of Nam Yoi cliff, from where you will have a wonderful view of the surrounding rural area.

How to get to Phra Maha Chedi Chai Mongkol; ~
The Phra Maha Chedi Chai Mongkol in the Wat Pha Namthip Thep Prasit Vararam temple complex is located in Nong Phok district, some 80 kilometres from Roi Et town. Getting to the Chedi by public transportation from Roi Et town could be a hassle, by far the most convenient and comfortable option is to hire an air conditioned car with driver to take you there. Most hotels will be able to arrange one for you. Agree on the price before leaving.

With the use of heavier building materials, the need to support the farm houses from the inside also disappeared. In many cases the trusses made way for load-bearing walls; only in large barns did the traditional wooden frame remain in vogue until the mid-twentieth century. Finally, there was also no need to use the farm in the longitudinal direction. From the end of the Middle Ages, there was a tendency to open up smaller buildings from the side walls, for example with windows and extra doors. This resulted in new farm types with a transverse division, such as the Brabant, Drenthe and Zeeland farm.

In molti si sono accorti di come i The Sun attualmente rappresentino una realtà professionistica e artistica unica in Italia e nel mondo, in quanto coniugano in modo nuovo la musica rock e la formazione, l'incontro personale e la Fede.
Andiamo in ordine però, qui sotto trovate riassunta la storia della band :-)
I The Sun sono una rock band italiana, evoluzione artistica dei vicentini Sun Eats Hours, formatasi nel 1997 e composta da Francesco Lorenzi (autore, cantante e chitarrista), Riccardo Rossi (batterista), Matteo Reghelin (bassista), Gianluca Menegozzo (chitarrista). Prima ancora di siglare un accordo con la major discografica Sony Music Entertainment, la band aveva già all’attivo quattro album autoprodotti e distribuiti in Europa, Giappone e Brasile da varie etichette indipendenti (in particolare da Rude Records) ed era stata supporter di band internazionali del calibro di The Cure, The Offspring, Misfits, Muse, Ok Go, NOFX, Ska P, Afi, Pennywise, The Vandals e, di recente, dei Deep Purple. E’ del 2004 il riconoscimento al M.E.I. come "miglior punk rock band italiana nel mondo".
La scelta coraggiosa di comporre in italiano nonostante il successo ottenuto risale al 2008, ed è conseguente ad un percorso di formazione e di risveglio spirituale del gruppo, che nello stesso periodo si avvia verso una decisiva fase di cambiamento. Una decisione e insieme una svolta, dovuta alla volontà dei componenti della band di dare un taglio più spirituale, solare e diretto alla musica che, a sua volta, vira da sonorità hard-rock-punk a un nuovo sound più immediato e che trova la sua naturale espressione nella madrelingua della band. Tra il 2008 e il 2010 i The Sun autoproducono 30 brani caratterizzati da uno sguardo riflessivo sul mondo giovanile. Sony Music e il suo direttore artistico Roberto Rossi apprezzano la svolta e decidono di investire sulla band pubblicando il 22 Giugno 2010 “Spiriti del Sole” che entra subito nella Top Ten degli album più venduti in digitale. Seguono numerosi concerti nell'estate 2010 e la band si esibisce di fronte ad oltre 250.000 persone. Al primo fortunato singolo “1972”, fa seguito in autunno il secondo estratto “Non ho paura” in cui i The Sun raccontano la conversione che li ha portati alla svolta di questi ultimi anni. Il primo marzo 2011 i The Sun si esibiscono a Betlemme per uno speciale concerto per la Pace e per l'abbattimento del muro che divide lo stato d’Israele dalla Palestina, un’esperienza che si rileverà molto significativa nel loro percorso di crescita. Nello stesso periodo esce il nuovo singolo “Hasta la Muerte” a cui segue un’intensa serie di esibizioni live in Italia prodotte dalla storica agenzia Barley Arts. La band sfonda il muro dei 400 concerti in carriera, comprendendo esibizioni in Europa, Israele e Giappone.
Più concreti e decisi a condividere apertamente con il pubblico il loro approccio positivo e solare nei confronti della vita, Lorenzi & Co escono il 12 giugno 2012 con il nuovo album “LUCE” su etichetta Sony Music, anticipato dal primo singolo “Onda Perfetta”, che vede la collaborazione artistica di Federico Poggipollini, storico chitarrista di Ligabue e Litfiba. L'album, prodotto da Maurizio Baggio e masterizzato a New York da Ted Jensen presso lo Sterling Sound, tratta tematiche importanti come la vita dopo la vita, la sessualità vissuta con amore, il coraggio, l'immortalità dell'anima, la gratitudine, l'unicità custodita in ogni individuo, l’amore per Dio e per l'umanità, la famiglia, la fede e la ricerca della felicità. La tournée di “Luce” conta già oltre 60 tappe con oltre quarantamila partecipanti in pochi mesi tra Italia e Terra Santa, dove la band è tornata su invito del Patriarcato Latino di Gerusalemme per due settimane suonando in festival, ospedali, scuole e club. Sempre nel 2012 Francesco Lorenzi e compagni hanno preso parte al settimo meeting internazionale delle Famiglie tenutosi a Milano dove si sono esibiti per Papa Benedetto XVI. Recentemente sono stati testimonial della campagna di raccolta fondi della Custodia di Terra Santa/ATS Pro Terra Sancta “A Natale ritorna alle origini” per sostenere le opere dei frati francescani della Custodia di Terra Santa a Betlemme; la campagna anche grazie ai The Sun ha riscosso un notevole successo.
Su invito del Card. Gianfranco Ravasi e del Pontificio Consiglio per la Cultura, il 6 Febbraio 2013 i The Sun hanno aperto l'Assemblea Plenaria sulle culture giovanili emergenti presso l'auditorium dell'università LUMSA, esibendosi di fronte a cardinali, vescovi, ambasciatori ed esponenti della cultura provenienti da tutto il mondo riuniti in Vaticano. Durante l'assemblea la band ha suonato, condiviso la propria esperienza di fede e si è fatta portavoce dei giovani. Francesco Lorenzi infatti, durante l'incontro, ha esposto i risultati di un sondaggio effettuato tramite il suo blog www.francescolorenzi.it che ha evidenziato quali siano gli aspetti che favoriscono e quali quelli che ostacolano il rapporto tra la Chiesa e i giovani. Diversi media hanno riportato l'evento indicandolo come “storico” ed “epocale” per il Vaticano e per il rapporto tra la Chiesa e il mondo giovanile. Il giorno seguente la band è stata ricevuta in udienza privata da Papa Benedetto XVI, incontro pregno di significato, amplificato anche dal fatto che la band è stata tra gli ultimi fortunati a aver avuto una udienza privata con il Papa Emerito. Il 20 Marzo 2013 i The Sun sono stati invitati ad esibirsi dal Magnifico Rettore Enrico Dal Covolo alla Pontificia Università Lateranense in occasione dell'apertura del primo “meeting internazionale di giovani cattolici per la giustizia sociale”. Anche in questa occasione Lorenzi & Co. hanno suonato per giovani provenienti da tutti i continenti, condividendo loro anche i risultati del sondaggio sul rapporto tra i giovani e la Chiesa effettuato in occasione della plenaria sulle culture giovanili emergenti svoltasi lo scorso febbraio.
Nel corso del 2013, i The Sun continueranno l'intensa tournée per portare LUCE in tutta Italia e nel mondo.
