Comme les girafes sont muettes, la chanson reste enfermée dans leur tête.
C'est en regardant très attentivement les girafes dans les yeux qu’on peut voir si elles chantent faux ou si elles chantent vrai.

Après des millions d'années d'évolution, l’anatomie de la girafe s’est modifiée pour lui permettre de brouter la cime des arbres : autrefois, son cou était beaucoup plus court, mais la nourriture se raréfiant, il s’est allongé de plus en plus. Cependant celui-ci ne comporte pas plus de vertèbres (7) que celui des autres animaux (ou que l'homme).
La longueur de ce cou fait que les girafes n’ont pas de cordes vocales. Elles communiquent en se caressant.
Chez les Grecs, la girafe passait pour la fille du chameau et du léopard.
Longévité : 25 ans en liberté, jusqu'à 35 ans en captivité
Taille et Poids : Un adulte mesure environ 5,30 mètres. C'est le plus haut des mammifères terrestres. L'adulte mâle pèse plus de 1,5 tonne et la femelle 1 tonne.
Habitat : Centre et Sud de l'Afrique
Régime alimentaire : herbivore
Les girafes se nourrissent du feuillage des arbres, principalement des acacias. Leur langue préhensile, qui peut atteindre 50 cm, permet d'attraper les feuilles les plus hautes. Les girafes consomment environ 30 kilos de nourriture par jour et autant de litres d'eau mais peuvent rester un mois sans boire.
Organisation sociale :La girafe vit en groupe, de 2 à 10 individus, dirigé par un mâle dominant.
Le grand mâle tente de dominer ses rivaux en leur coupant le passage et en dressant sa tête le plus haut possible. Le combat éclate lorsqu'un rival refuse de baisser la tête, de laisser le passage, ou fronce la lèvre en sa présence.
Dans les combats de girafes, les mâles utilisent leur tête comme une massue. Les deux mâles se cognent jusqu'à ce que l'un d'eux abandonne, mais le perdant est rarement tué ou blessé à mort et ils ne se battent jamais à coups de sabots.
Une fois qu'un mâle a conquis une femelle, ses amours sont caressants et paisibles, avec beaucoup de coups de langues.
Reproduction : Après une période de gestation de 15 mois, la femelle donne naissance à 1 petit et plus rarement 2. Le nouveau-né, le girafon, mesure à sa naissance 2 mètres pour un poids variant de 40 à 80 kg et tombe d'une hauteur de 2 mètres. À la naissance la girafe n'adopte son petit que s'il est capable de se tenir rapidement debout : au bout d'une heure il doit tenir sur ses pattes pour atteindre les mamelles de sa mère. Dans le cas contraire, elle l'abandonne ou même le tue. La mère se fait comprendre de son petit en le caressant avec le bout de son museau. Elle l'incite ainsi à la suivre et à la téter, créant ainsi le lien maternel.

However, this neck isn’t made of more vertebrae (7) than the other animals’ one (or than the man’s one). Because of their neck length the giraffes don’t have vocal cords. They communicate caressing each other.
The Greeks thought that the giraffe was the camel and leopard’s daughter.

Height and Weight: An adult measures approximately 5,30 meters. It’s the highest terrestrial mammal. The male adult weighs more than 1,5 ton and female 1 ton.

The giraffes eat trees foliage, mainly acacias. Their prehensile tongue, which can reach 50 cm, enables it to catch the highest leaves. The giraffes approximately eat 30 kilos of food per day and as many litres of water but can remain one month without drinking.
Social organization: The giraffe lives in group, from 2 to 10 animals, directed by a dominating male. The great male tries to dominate its rivals by blocking their way and drawing up its head as high as possible. The fight breaks out when a rival refuses to lower the head, to allow him to pass, or curls up its lip in his presence. In the giraffes fight, the males use their head like a bludgeon. The two males knock themselves until one of them gives up, but the loser is seldom killed or mortally wounded and they never fight with blows from hooves. As soon as a male conquers a female, its love is cherishing and peaceful, with many blows from tongue.
Reproduction: After a 15 months gestation, the female gives birth to 1 baby and more rarely 2. The new-born baby measures 2 metres for a varying weight from 40 to 80 kg and falls from a 2 metres height. The giraffe adopts its baby only if it is able to stand on its hind legs quickly: after an hour, it must stand on its legs to reach its mother’s udders. Otherwise, the mother forsakes it or even kills it. The mother communicates with her baby by cherishing it with her muzzle. She thus encourages it to follow her and to suck her.

Now my desktop is finally set up, and I have access to the images i shot during my last week living in Buffalo. We adventured to a couple photo labs to see who could E-6 my rolls of slide film, and it turns out there's only one in town that does it in-house.
I'm steadily learning the roads around here. A whole lot of one-way streets add to the confusion. But so far, it's safe to say that I really like Minneapolis. But boy do i miss my fellow photographers from Buffalo... it just seems like nobody here shoots for fun.

The lab I use has been shut down for the holidays for 2 weeks now - they were supposed to reopen today but I got there to find a sign saying "Closed Jan 3rd for renovations" - aaaargh!

I used to mail myself postcards from every location I visited. However, as postcards became less available, I began photographing the room numbers of the places I stayed in.
In 2024, I traveled a total of 176,772 kilometers (109,831 miles) and spent 104 days away from home.
Let’s have some fun calculating my flight time. A typical commercial jet flies at about 500-550 miles per hour (mph). Taking an average speed of 525 mph:
109,831 miles ÷ 525 mph ≈ 209 hours of flight time. That is more than one full week in the air.
This calculation represents just the flying hours and excludes delays, transit times, and travel to and from airports. A significant portion of my life is spent in transit.
My least active travel years were 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic; nonetheless, I managed to visit five different countries each year.
Studio equipment used:
1 light source - Elinchrom ELC Pro HD 500, key light with Beauty Dish light modifier (+ honeycomb) above right to the model,
2 light sources - Elinchrom ELC Pro HD 500 key light with 60Ñ…90 Soft Boxes (+ honeycomb) on the left and right sides behind the model,
the whole scene was syncronized with Elinchrome EL Skyport remote used on camera,
CANVAS DEEP WATER paper background - approx. 2-3 meters behind the model

I've found Darya on Russian social media website in a group, where photographers are looking for a models to shoot some creative ideas they have and vice versa, where models are looking for photographers to shoot model tests. Both sides usually need photos to renew their portfolios and are working on TFP terms.
Upon disussing the ideas we had, in chat, I've booked my favorite studio and we started preparations.
During 2 hours photoshot Darya managed to change 6 types of clothes in various combinations, we tried 3 different backgounds and made 400+ photos.
She is a professional model of such type that can give a photographer 60 diffrents poses per minute, full of energy and able to work tirelessly for many hours. Probably one of the best girls I've shot so far.

Growing up during the Fifties in Eastern Ontario, we saw a lot of hot dry summers, much as we have experienced this year. Days were bright and lawns were parched. Even nature had a polaroid colour cast.

Back in May 2022, a dear friend of mine received the news that her unborn daughter had anencephaly, a condition that caused the brain and skull to not fully form, and was incapable for life. The option of aborting her baby was pressed upon her by doctors and nurses, as they believed that she would most likely die in the womb. But my friend and her husband decided they wanted to keep her, no matter what, for as long as they could.
Her name was Abigail.
Fast forward to October of 2022, Kevin and I are rushing to the hospital after JUST getting back from our UK trip. Little Abigail was on her way. My friend ended up carrying her to full term, and she was about to enter the world, alive and oh so dearly loved. We ran to the check in desk and gave my friend's name to the receptionist.
"Oh wow, this girl has a village."
She chuckled. "You have no idea."
Abigail was born very soon after we arrived. Soon the hospital room was flooded with friends and family. Everyone knew Abigail's story. We all knew her name. After our pastor dedicated her and a prayer was said over her and her family, we sang happy birthday. It was like a victory cry.
Eventually we were all ushered out of the room to give the family sometime alone with their precious one.
A few hours passed and our phones buzzed with a message saying that Abigail passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus. There was victory still, even in the many tears. She was healed, just in a way we didn't expect.
Through out her pregnancy, my friend compared Abigail to a wildflower. Resplendent, worth nurturing, protecting and cherishing.
In a field of roses, she is a wildflower.

It was anencephaly awareness day earlier this month and I wanted to make sure I dedicated something to her while continuing this project.
Because I want her name to be remembered.

Usei esse já tem um tempinho, mas não tinha postado ainda. Ele é muito lindo, e olha que não gosto muito de verdão aberto assim, e nem de metálicão desse jeito, mas ele muda tanto de cor, que fica um espetáculo!
Fora que amo o vidrinho com tampa de gatinho, e ainda é perfeito pra carimbar! Gostei tanto dele, que essa semana comprei outro no ebay. Agora só esperar chegar! :)

It used to be him looking in at her but now its her looking in at him. OK you probably can't see that but i know what he looks like and my reflection here not really showing my hair gives an idea of what he looks like.
Not that bad really but heck he is more a diva than i am.
You can see how long my has got now hence why i am a trim in a few weeks. Sort the split ends give it some shape and take a little weight out of it to give it a little lift.
Yeah Cinders i haven't a clue what i am on about lol. Wanna come with me and advise?

A couple of years ago I moved to De Pinte. I was excited to get to live close to a relatively busy railroad. There were some nice photo locations close by, perfect for the few daily freights. Unfortunately, a bit more than 1 year after the move, a bicycle highway was built. Including light masts and a shiny green fence.
Fortunately the railroad wasn't the reason to move here. And fortunately I got some photos before the start of the works.
