I used to work with Danielle until a year or so ago. Back in April I shot her and her husband in the middle of an open field when they found out they were pregnant. Now she is 8mo along and was ready for a little hike, and was adventurous enough to climb this huge rock, and let me do some silhouettes of them at sunset. “Your flash isn’t going off.” “Exactly”. Then these colors really came alive in Lightroom. I think I like this.
So it’s Monday Pre-Tuesday and my weekend is almost over. I’m back at work, but I have one more wedding to shoot… tonight. Monday. The reason… the stars lined up to make this date the only logical date for them to get married. Something to do with astrology, and then the date adds up to someone’s birthday, and the Lakers start their season tomorrow. Seriously. And the only shot they dream of having is a shot of them after the ceremony at a park, playing on the playground equipment. So I see them on a swing, perhaps the monkey bars… any other ideas of using a bride & groom at the park?

When I used to dive at Honaunau Bay, I would often overhear some experts on the beach telling their companions something to the effect of "SCUBA drives the dolphins away. They don't like the bubbles". I seldom feel the need to challenge those more experienced or more educated than myself but my experience has been quite different. In the 20 some years I have spent diving at Honaunau, I've been approached closely numerous times by Hawaiian Spinner Dolphins both individually and in groups. Never have I seen them appear agitated or fearful of neither my presence or my bubbles. On two occasions I've had a dolphin drop a leaf in front of me to catch. I would swim a little distance, drop the leaf, and the dolphin would deftly catch it on its rostrum, fin or fluke and return it to me. This would be repeated a couple more times till the dolphin tired of the game and swam off. Most of these "close encounters" occurred very early in the morning (between 6 and 7 AM) when the dolphins first entered the bay after a night of hunting. After an hour or two they would go into their sleep mode for the rest of the day and it was best to just leave them alone.
A few years ago, Hawai'i passed a law forbidding closely approaching any marine mammal. It is enforced fairly regularly by the Dept. of Land and Natural Resources. That's fine by me as I no longer shore dive (pushing 70 with one knee replacement and another on the horizon) and I can't complain about the quality or quantity of the experiences I've had.
I'm re-editing some of my old dolphin photos, like this one, and hope you enjoy them. Swimming with them has been fantastic!

Sarasota is a city in Sarasota County on the southwestern coast of the U.S. state of Florida. The area is renowned for its cultural and environmental amenities, beaches, resorts, and the Sarasota School of Architecture. The city is at the southern end of the Tampa Bay Area, north of Fort Myers and Punta Gorda. Its official limits include Sarasota Bay and several barrier islands between the bay and the Gulf of Mexico. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, in 2019 Sarasota had a population of 58,285. In 1986 it became designated as a certified local government. Sarasota is the principal city of the Sarasota metropolitan area and is the seat of Sarasota County. Long the winter headquarters of the Ringling Brothers Circus, many landmarks in Sarasota are named for the Ringlings.
The Sarasota city limits contain several keys, including Lido Key, St. Armands Key, Otter Key, Casey Key, Coon Key, Bird Key, and portions of Siesta Key. Longboat Key is the largest key separating the bay from the gulf, but it was evenly divided by the new county line of 1921. The portion of the key that parallels the Sarasota city boundary that extends to that new county line along the bayfront of the mainland was removed from the city boundaries at the request of John Ringling in the mid-1920s, who sought to avoid city taxation of his planned developments at the southern tip of the key. Although they never were completed in the quickly faltering economy, those development concessions granted by the city never were reversed and the county has retained regulation of those lands.
The city limits had expanded significantly with the real estate rush of the early twentieth century, reaching almost 70 square miles (180 km2). The wild speculation boom began to crash in 1926 and following that, the city limits began to contract, shrinking to less than a quarter of that area.
The area is known today as Sarasota first appeared on a sheepskin Spanish map from 1763 with the word Zarazote over present-day Sarasota and Bradenton. From 1883 to 1885, The Florida Mortgage And Investment Company Of Edinburgh bought 60,000 acres for development in what is now the City of Sarasota. Many Scottish people began to arrive in Sarasota in December 1885. The municipal government of Sarasota was established when it was incorporated as a town in 1902. John Gillespie was the first Mayor.
Italian architecture and culture are quite strong in the area because of the Ringling Museum. An unusually large number of homes and buildings are designed in the Italian style, especially Venetian as influenced by Ringling's Cà d'Zan. Italian-inspired statues are also common and Michelangelo's David is used as the symbol of Sarasota.

Where the stored loks used to be, the demic snowplough still exists. A Verl date of 09/11/2002 shows how long it has been out of use.
These snowploughs were built on the frames of old steam lok tenders 😊

Enigmatic heads on fence posts. The farm is a working farm showing recent use of this loading chute. Perhaps the heads keep the cows in a cooperative mood as they are shipped off to market.

Tulipanes
En el Siglo XVI, el embajador austríaco en Turquía Ogier Ghislain de Busbecq, quién además era un floricultor entusiasta, vio tulipanes cultivados en Adrianópolis. En 1544, cuando regresó a Europa, trajo consigo algunos bulbos a los Jardines Imperiales de Viena. Décadas más tarde, en 1593, Carolus Clusius dejó su trabajo en los Jardines Imperiales para tomar un cargo de profesor de botánica en Leiden, Holanda. Clusius, llevó con él a Holanda una colección de bulbos de tulipanes que crearon un gran interés y entusiasmo. Entre 1610 y 1620 en Francia y para 1634 en Holanda, el entusiasmo por cultivar estas plantas bulbosas se transformó en una verdadera fiebre conocida como "tulipomanía".
In the sixteenth century, the Austrian ambassador to Turkey from Ogier Ghislain Busbecq, who was also an enthusiastic flower grower, saw tulips grown in Adrianópolis. Lots of dust getting kicked up. The lady in in the center had this beautiful horse going from a full gallop to a trot to a canter each revolution of the training ring. Thank goodness it was only around 85 degrees at this time of the morning, now (3pm AZ) it's getting up around 110 degrees.

Early morning light is one of the most powerful tools in photography.
Soft sunlight not only reveals texture and delicate details, but it also allows the subject to separate naturally from its surroundings.
In macro photography, even moving the camera a few centimetres can completely transform the background. A distracting element may suddenly dissolve into a smooth wash of colour and light, creating the kind of bokeh that gives a photograph its atmosphere.
For me, the background is never just a backdrop.
It becomes a silent storyteller, supporting the subject without overwhelming it. When the balance is right, the subject appears to breathe within the frame.
During the last few weeks I spent several early mornings searching for snowdrops and small woodland details. Sometimes the wind was too strong, sometimes the light arrived too late, and sometimes patience was the only reward. On this particular morning I stayed in the field for nearly two and a half hours and returned home with only three photographs.
But in nature photography the number of images rarely matters. What matters is the quiet moment when light, composition and patience finally meet.
These small scenes – a snowdrop illuminated by the first sunlight, a tiny ladybird exploring the moss, and a single red capsule rising from the green forest floor – remind me how rich and intricate the miniature world of nature can be.
After several attempts this photograph marks the closing image of my snowdrop series for this season.
Next year, when early spring returns again, the search and the quiet waiting will begin once more.

The 7-Spotted Ladybug (Coccinella septempunctata) in Britain
Distribution:
The 7-spotted ladybug is one of the most common and widespread ladybird species in the UK. It can be found across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, inhabiting a variety of environments including gardens, parks, woodlands, farmland, and grasslands.
Ecological Role:
This species is a crucial natural predator in biological pest control. It primarily feeds on aphids and other small insect pests, helping to reduce the need for chemical pesticides and maintaining the balance of ecosystems.
Seasonal Activity:
Spring – Summer: Becomes active from late March as temperatures rise, entering its peak breeding season during the summer months.
Autumn – Winter: As temperatures drop, individuals seek shelter under tree bark, stones, and leaf litter to hibernate (diapause) through the colder months.
Climate Change & Competition:
In recent years, the spread of invasive species such as the Harlequin Ladybird (Harmonia axyridis) has posed a threat to native populations. While the 7-spotted ladybug remains abundant, competition for food and habitat has led to a decline in certain areas.
Cultural Significance:
In British folklore, ladybugs are often considered symbols of good luck. Gardeners also value them as "nature’s pest controllers", playing a vital role in organic and sustainable gardening.

In 1597, botanist John Gerard noted that the smell of meadowsweet "delighteth the senses." In 1652, English physician Nicholas Culpeper wrote about the plant's therapeutic effects on the stomach. In 1682, meadowsweet was mentioned in a Dutch herbal. Queen Elizabeth I adorned her apartments with meadowsweet. The flowers were used to flavor alcoholic beverages in England and Scandinavian countries. In the Middle Ages, meadowsweet was known as "meadwort" because it was used to flavor mead, an alcoholic drink made by fermenting honey and fruit juices. In 1838, salicylic acid, first synthesized in the 1890s to make aspirin, was isolated from the plant. The word "aspirin" is derived from "spirin," based on meadowsweet's scientific name, "Spiraea." The plant was used in folk medicine for cancer, tumors, rheumatism, and as a diuretic. Today, it is used as a digestive remedy, as supportive therapy for colds, for analgesia, and for other indications.

Tramonto dell'innocenza
L'Innocenza.....
una volta durava molto di più...molti più anni separavano la vita consapevole da quella dei giochi. Ora...ogni giorno il Tramonto dell'Innocenza è sempre più presto....quando ancora ci sarebbe da giocare tanto....da sognare tanto..da immaginare tanto.....e tante tante cose ancora da non sapere ed ignorare!
Ma i tempi sono questi...dove la televisione confeziona icone del tutto sbagliate..dove l'apparire..diventa già una necessità quotidiana anche in età giovane! Sono anche i tempi dove niente può essere più fatto con spensieratezza...con innocenza...con tranquillità! La tranquillità che niente e nessuno può essere li a darci fastidio...a farci del male. Tempi dove giocare in un prato diventa ogni giorno più pericoloso...tempi dove un parco pubblico in pieno giorno può nascondere molte più insidie di un autogrill isolato in piena notte. Non è il modo più bello di crescere questo.....e noi che allora ci lamentavamo per restare mezzora in più in cortile a giocare a guardia e ladri..beh....ritieniamoci fortunati...perchè l'Innocenza noi...inconsapevoli....l'abbiamo vissuta!
