This bandana always brings to mind the first lyrics in Hotel California. It gives me that feeling of driving with the windows down, the air a perfect temperature, a light breeze caressing you & making you shudder. It reminds me of how excited I was to get my license because being able to drive gave me a certain freedom that I still cherish. It’s that type of feeling that we need to chase more. Whatever makes you feel free and happy, whatever makes you feel like you are flying, chase that. Spread your wings and soar through life.

This term has been used in antiquity already and means the destruction of memory or, politically, the erasure of a name from the public record. Elagabalus (also Heliogabalus or, more neutrally, Marcus Aurelius Antoninus) is one of such erased names. He was the ill-famed Arab teenager Roman Emperor from 218 to 222 AD (assassinated at the age of 18). There are wildly diverging opinions about Heliogabalus - from the most incompetent emperor ever, via the "crowned anarchist" (Antonin Artaud) to what in today's terminology would be a transgender person. He is worth remembering, not just for his liberalism in matters of sexual life, but also for the impulses he gave for religious life. He imported the Syrian sun god Elagabal (a version of Ba'al) to Rome, conflated him with the Greek god Helios and the Roman Sol Invictus tradition and became himself their high priest (pontifex maximus). The symbolic representation of Elagabal was abstract, namely a black meteorite, also imported from Syria. The side-lining of Jupiter did not go down well in Rome and was one of the reasons why Elagabalus was murdered.

Imaged from my light-polluted backyard in the Niagara Region. So many re-processes, I finally ended up with this. As always, more time under darker skies would help. I blended some 10 second exposures of the core in.

First time using the PGR 3 on the Moon. Quite pleased despite a lot of wobble due to the low altitude of the moon.
Longpass filter worked out very well.

The road that is, not the Jeep. I think I have driven every legal road in Death Valley National Park except this one. Time to explore Jackass Flats.
As a little girl I used to love waking up to the aroma of freshly brewing kaapi (coffee). Back then I used to fake having headaches just to have a sip of coffee, it went on till I was old enough to have my own cup of coffee.
In Tamil Nadu, South India, kaapi/coffee is served in stainless steel cups called "tumblers" and a matchig saucer which looks like a bowl called "tabara". The frothy coffee forms a dome on the top and looks as if it is going to overflow any second. We are trained from young to skillfully pick up the tumbler by the rim (notice there are no handles) using just the thumb and the pointing finger and to drink piping hot coffee from the non heat resistant steel tumblers, without spilling a drop or burning our lips.

Built for the Abide category of LSB District 18 Contest. Another fun build. The title reflects the bags that make up the blue areas of the bike. I have had about 50 sitting around for over 6 months, finally found a use for some of them.

Using a polarising filter this time of the year is great, you get that nice deep blue sky and vivid leaf colours. Autumn looks great if you can combine the two in your images, the blue and the reds/yellow of the trees.

I used a flash on almost all the photos taken during the holidays. I didn't have a modifier attached but rather just bounced the light off of whatever was handy. My grandson Blake has such fair skin that I often ended up with unintended highlights on his cheeks and nose from the light bouncing downwards from the ceiling, and in this case, on his lower lip as well. Regardless, I managed to get him to sit still for just a second and snapped off what is one of my favorite photos from the holidays.

Looking with One Lens and Then Through Another
Yet I have only one pair of eyes
I hold a camera in each hand
But it’s the beyond that has the wonder
I came to this place only while out on a walk
And found much more than I expected

Another work of short poetry or prose that serves as a companion to the image captured one morning while walking the streets of Mount Shasta, California. The view is to the northeast and uses both sides of the open street as leading lines into the composition. Mount Shasta stands tall as the backdrop, seemingly rising into the heavens above. The camera in my left hand is a Nikon Z8 Mirrorless Camera with the LCD LiveView screen turned on with Mount Shasta. I captured this image with my iPhone.
Found this monument using googlemaps. It’s in the foothills of the West Lomond near Falkland and was built in memory of the fantastically named Onesiphorus Tyndall-Bruce (born in the 18th century) who is responsible for Falkland as we know it today. He also built The Temple of Decision which is quite possibly the best ever name for a garden shed in which to get away from your wife to drink and ponder the wonders of the universe. Took some effort to get there in the pitch black as after trying to drive up the track I grounded and nearly beached my car. After a quick reverse down the hill, Joe and I hiked the mile in the pitch black with head torches to get to the monument. Small miracle we found it in the dark, not many people come up this way. Could only find another 2 pictures of this monument on flickr. It has fantastic views north over the Howe of Fife. The ghostly apparition on right is Joe.
This is 159 x 30 sec exposures blended together using the startrails program. Two exposures were blended for the foreground with a handheld off camera sb-900 flash with frost and red gels used.

I use an Einstein 640 strobe with a 22" beauty dish & diffusion sock mounted on an Elinchrom Handheld Boom Arm. I typically fire my camera off with a wireless trigger, and that in turn fires my CyberSync™ Trigger Transmitter on my Nikon D800 to fire off my strobe via a CyberSync™ Transceiver. I end up taking several exposures, both high and low, while walking around the vehicle. I'll layer the images in Photoshop and switch each layer to the 'lighten' blend mode. I have been using layer masks to remove some highlight details from the strobe reflection, but I don't always find it works all the time. 1970 Plymouth Duster, 2016 Mountain Thunder Car Show in Old Fort, North Carolina. I shot the car in full daylight with about 5 stops of ND filtration and had the flash power at maximum.
