Upper Tor, Peak District, UK

I eventually got some light this morning. I was at Ringing Roger for sunrise but low cloud rose up and snuffed it out.

After hanging around in the wind for a while, I carried on to Upper Tor and arrived just as the cloud started to disperse and I got a few moments of light..

I don't know what denomination built this church in North Kortright, NY. It is now an independent Christian church.

Another photo from yesterday morning in the Peak District.

There are signs here warning people to cross the bridge quickly because of the danger of sudden torrents of water caused by pieces of glacier collapsing into the valley. I thought this was a ploy to stop people congregating on the bridge until I saw the state of the glacier overhanging this spot :-) Picture to come..

Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA

This is a photo from the upper part of Ófærufoss, a very picturesque and spectacular waterfall in the Eldgjá area of Southern Island. There is a platform just above the lower cascade of this waterfall where this photo was taken from ...

Until 1993 there was a natural bridge spanning over the lower falls of Ófærufoss. In that year it collapsed due to melting water.

Here is a photo that I took back in 1987 where you can see Ófærufoss with the natural bridge still standing.

Ófærufoss can be accessed quiet easily from a branch-off of the F208 and a short hike.

One can be rewarded with beautiful scenery such as this between Isle of Skye and Ullapool, Scotland. One might even be able to witness stags rucking in the valley as we did, what a tremendous experience that was.

Upper Antelope Canyon at noon, Page, AZ

I was lucky to go while it was still accessible.

The canyon was accessible only by guided tour, lead by Navajo (the land is owned by the Navajo). The tour required reservations, and it was full. The guides did a marvelous job of keeping the groups separated with only one group per gallery at a time.

The stories the guides tell of the land, the discovery of the place… are as interesting as the place itself.

Just before I took this shot, my battery died. The Canon 20D was still new to me then, and I wanted to see how many shots I could get from one battery. I still remember the look on the guys face next to me when I said to myself “uh oh, dead battery!” The look of relief on his face when I pulled out a fresh one was priceless.

I want to go back.

This is not one of the well know waterfalls in Hamilton, it's in Dundas and doesn't flow more than a trickle for much of the year. This was after a big early spring melt then rain, so it rarely flows even like this.

Even tho we are in a severe drought at the moment (no significant rainfall in a month), there was still a little water at the falls. We could hear the water before we could see it. Many steps down to the all but dry creek bed at the bottom of the mountain. Best thing was we were the only ones there. We were able to let the dogs off their leashes and they enjoyed cooling down in the pool of water at the base of the falls. We will come back after a thunderstorm. It was spectacular with just a trickle. I'm sure it's magnificent when it's full of running water.

After a cold and windy start on Carhead Rocks last week I went up to Upper Burbage to see if there were any photo opportunities. As I parked up the sun got up above the low cloud and lit up the landscape.. I think the rocky outcrop is Higger Tor but I could be wrong.

The Upper Esk Waterfalls are a series of beautiful, tiered cascades and pools in the stunning Eskdale Valley, Lake District, famous for wild swimming, especially around Lingcove Bridge, offering a majestic setting with rocky scrambles and deep, clear water, though visitors should be cautious of slippery rocks. Key spots include the impressive Upper Falls (requiring a scramble) and nearby areas like Tongue Pot, reachable via a walk alongside the River Esk from Dalegarth, with paths suitable for hiking to these spectacular, less-crowded gems.
