Up, up and away-
Gas it and inflate myself,
Float beyond the past.
Things are coming back
to me now, end of cycles
Opportune threshold.
The water meets sky
No separation between
They kiss so softly
This is like a prayer
Asked and answered after so
long behind the veil.
The fog rolls in slow
Steady like my lover comes
I can see it now.
What obscures us in
our frantic shuddering? Just
misunderstanding.
Clarity arrives
I am flush with myself
Grateful to the Source.
Everything moments,
Understanding blooms easy now
Beauty runs so deep.
I let it come now
Appreciation and the
honoring of joy.

This is a close-up photo of patterns in a piece of kelp that I held up to be backlit by the evening sunlight.
Turning away from the playa of the Smoke Creek Desert at Sano, the rails of Western Pacific's Fifth Subdivision start up the east side of Sand Pass. Highlighting the route, with over 13K feet and 20K tons, a westbound North Platte, Nebraska to Fresno, California manifest makes the climb to Sand Pass.

My only shot showing the head of this species, Argiope aurantia, the Black & Yellow Garden Spider. The dragonfly prey appears to be hanging precariously. Perhaps one or more of the three tiny Argyrodes kleptoparasites in view had been cutting away at its support? Subsequently the Garden Spider added reinforcement and hauled it up to safety. Maybe some shots of that, eventually.
Happy Arachtober!
Time to relax is later. Now is the time for doing away with all (well, most) of the fallen limbs and branches that Winter hides.
btw: it's dark because it is pre-dawn. That's the only time there is no wind blowing, and safer for fire... :)

Somewhere in Utah
Any normal person would say it’s the middle of nowhere, but to a few of us, it’s definitely somewhere. Only a railfan could make a destination of somewhere completely devoid of people, something I think makes the hobby all the more interesting. Here on the former Rio Grande main, traffic still exists, though not without considerable gaps between trains. With its helpers removed at Colton, UP 3038 and company notch up to speed once again with their load of West Elk coal in tow. They departed Grand Junction sometime around 9AM with an easy run across the desert, meeting Amtrak in Ruby Canyon and an empty coal train somewhere west of Green River. With a little over 60 miles left of double track, they don’t look to be stopping anytime soon.

The dirty dirt train roars out of the cut near Seven Mile with loads of radioactive waste for disposal elsewhere.

East of Buford, Wyoming, Union Pacific's original transcontinental line utilized a convenient, natural sloping ridge in the landscape to ascend the Continental Divide. This feature was known as "The Gangplank", and is still used by the modern UP in its ascent of Sherman Hill- one of the few places where route changes over the years have not taken the rails away from their original 1860s location. In evening light, a westbound intermodal cruises up the 'plank- though this is a relatively easy grade for a what is technically a mountain railway, the power still gets a workout on the hill here with today's extremely long PSR freights.
