This is a close-up HDR photo of detergent soap bubbles in a plastic tray. I took this image outside, so the larger soap bubbles are reflecting the overhead canopy of trees, and most of them are reflecting the iridescence elicited by the bright sunlight. The detail in this frame filling photo is best appreciated when seen full screen in Slideshow.
Caught UP 5320 leading a southbound manifest on Friday as it rounded the corner at Lake Point at about 6:15PM. I had some great evening light lined up, but she arrived five minutes too late to take advantage of the moment.

A Union Pacific GP30 awaits a clear signal through the Santa Fe crossing in Colton, California. UP 719 has an interesting story to tell.
Don Strack's informative website UtahRails.net tells the tale . . .
"In an attempt to increase the GP30's potential as a unit for high speed piggyback service, to supplement the road's DDA40X Centennial units, in early 1970, UP 719 was equipped with 59:18 gear ratio and a 16 cylinder 567D3A engine. The engine was the same as that used in the 2500 horsepower GP35s, and included power assemblies upgraded to use components of EMD's 645-design engine. After its modification, UP called it a GP30MA. The need for high speed service was later filled by the 8000-class SD40-2s, so in mid 1980, the modified GP30's engine was replaced with one of the original GP30 design, and the unit was returned to its original 62:15 gear ratio."
Now you know the story of UP's one an only "Fast Thirty".
Looking up into the overcast skies, the curves of this building invoke the comforting aesthetic of modern London life.
In late January and early February 1998, EMD and Union Pacific teamed up to test the SD90MAC-H on UP's Bond Subdivision (later Moffat Tunnel Sub). The units and EMD test car are shown westbound at Leyden siding, about 12 miles west of Denver. EMD Demo 8504 eventually went to the UP.

Called rock trains, UP ran these in the 90's from Silver Bow to Great Falls and then to Calgary with phosphate. Some of the best coverage I got of the line up to Great Falls was because of these moves.

3.13.2021 LBU53B starts out in Butler Yard just west of Milwaukee. It then rolls over the Adams Sub 38 miles to Clyman Jct where it takes a left onto the Clyman Sub to Jefferson Wi over 20 miles. Here at Johnson Creek it rolls up through DT over the former C&NW trackage.

As usually happens, clouds covered the sunrise proper but a short time thereafter, the sun blasted its light through the clouds and lit up the cliffs around the Flamborough peninsular. Quite a spectacular morning and well needed after two weeks of coughs and colds put me out of action. Surprising how my mood changes for a whole week if we don't get to have a run out somewhere.

I got this one inbetween storm fronts.. and this is one of the only shots when the sun actually appeared from behind the clouds. Which made a nice sunny glow ont op of the water.

The westbound UP-led military move did not make to Union Jct before the sun was down, due to excess railroad molasses, however I decided to stick around for it anyway. The least I could do was mess around with some pan shots as he was at least not crawling towards Park Jct. Attempts with trailing military equipment turned out a little better, but it was still fun. Nice running into you Douglas !

The return trip of M-TPTP from Friday afternoon at roughly MP 29 on the UP Kansas Sub in Linwood. Love those EMDZ.
Again I was sat at home when the sky looked very interesting, so I nipped out to nearby Condor Green where the small River Condor enters the Lune Estuary.
I had seen this old, seemingly abandoned, boat stuck in the mud banks on the side of the creek a couple of weeks ago and I thought it would make an interesting subject, if the tide and the sky were right.
So I donned my wellies and made my way out to have a closer look. I was treated to some lovely light just before sunset as the sun then passed down into a bank of cloud.
Time to relax is later. Now is the time for doing away with all (well, most) of the fallen limbs and branches that Winter hides.
btw: it's dark because it is pre-dawn. That's the only time there is no wind blowing, and safer for fire... :)
