Ceiling of the Main Reading Room at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. Normally non-card holders and photography is not allowed in this room but twice a year the Library hosts an open house in which the public and photography is welcome.

If you want to do research, anyone 16 or older may sign up for a library card. The Library of Congress is a research only library so books are not checked out.

A wolf looking upwards, quite interested!

Tied Up

In the heart of the night you come on like fire

In the light of dawn leave me cold and tired

When you think of love

Tell me what you see

You want some lovin' but your heart's tied up

Try to run but you can't say stop

Now the truth is out, can't you see

I'm tied to you and you belong to me

But when we get too close I feel you push away

Nothin' I do's gonna make you stay

An orthodox church. These small churches (named Exoklissi) are built in the nature, outside villages.

In the old days, they provided the lonely traveler a shelter and also protection from every evil.

Looking up a tree. The original tree is growing nr. Peebles in Scotland.

Processed this through Topaz Adjust 5 for Slider's Sunday, used a negative slider and then several others.

Reminds me of capillaries and blood vessels.

It's hard to believe that this was taken only steps away from the Flatiron building on Manhattan's 22nd Street. I also took some shots with the building in the background, but this more ethereal version won out.

This weekend I was in attendance at a sledding party not too far from where I grew up. One of my best friends invited me to his family's annual winter gathering and of course I showed up with my camera and none other than the nifty fifty (50mm).

Throughout the day I captured candid moments of joy, laughter, hilarity, and love. Friends and family gathered on a day when the temperature climbed no higher than +8 degrees above zero all in hopes of flying down the hill the fastest and the farthest. Never mind that early on in the festivities you could not only see your breath but that the moisture from your breath crystallized upon your eyelashes. Never mind that it was so biting cold that even the (incredibly large) roaring fire could not fight off the chill for very long.

Ah yes, winter in Minnesota; it is not for the faint of heart nor for the easily shaken. Thick skin is required and if you come without it, be prepared to add multiple layers to your wardrobe as you will most certainly need them. You betcha.

More to come from this wintry, fun-filled, bone-chilling day...

............................................................................

Towards the end of the afternoon we were in the process of gathering everyone for their annual group photo when I turned to see that gorgeous winter light casting sweet glows upon everything it touched.

Miss Brea, someone whom I call friend but in my heart is also my family, had just re-wrapped herself in hopes of fighting off the bitter cold. I nearly laughed when I saw the look on her face because it was exactly what I was hoping to get from her. She's beautiful.

If you look closely, you'll be able to see her breath rising in the frost-bitten air...

UP 6310, one of the final five patched ex-SP AC44CWs, is working in DPU service along with two already rebuilt C44ACMs, after being attached mid-train to the MPDRV at Eugene. Recently Union Pacific has announced another order of AC44CW rebuilds from Wabtec that this time seems like it will cover the rest of the entire fleet, meaning the final five will end up in fresh coats of yellow paint sooner rather than later. The location is McCredie Springs, on Union Pacific’s Cascade Subdivision in Oregon. Locomotive consist is UP 7978, 6822, and 9002 on the point, with UP 6310, 5743, and 6278 mid-train in DPU mode. The final five patched SP AC44CWs are UP 6236, 6310, 6318, 6378, and 6379. Picture taken November 16, 2025.
