The equipment move for the George H.W. Bush funeral train departed Council Bluffs on Sunday morning December 2, two days after his passing. 'Spirit of Union Pacific' 1943 had the honors of running the passenger cars down towards Spring, TX; where the funeral train would begin on Thursday December 6th.

As luck would have it, a winter storm brought about 6 inches of snow to the area during the wee hours of the morning. Some lingering flurries fall as the special passes the elevator at Murray, Nebraska. As you can see by the snow still on the railhead ahead of 1943, the railroad had been cleared off to give way for this most important of moves.

AC and DC GEVO's (CN 2876 & CN 2266) lead CN 369 as it passes CN 120 on a busy morning on the Kingston Sub. Up front are three aluminum cars, with more further back.

While searching for UP 1943, which is supposed to be leading a westbound oil train out of Denver later in the day, I came across this old UP SD60M! It was originally delivered as UP 6337 in September 1992. What is the fate of the unit? My guess would be that it is on its way to storage, but I do not know.

In my neighbourhood there are several old farms that are swallowed up by town. The stables behind this farm are nowadays garages. The street you are looking down is Brinkstraat. "The brink (an open space surrounded by trees) is originally the farmer's use area where the livestock was collected in order to go to the common pastureland as a herd. The brink originally was on the edge of the village (the English brink still means "edge"). (Wikipedia)

I have a collapsable hood on my Tokina lens. This was shot at 35mm and I forgot to collapse the hood, which resulted in quite some vignetting. For once I think it actually adds to the photo :-)

Here's a photo from Lake Hayes where we took our NZ photo adventure workshop one morning. It's kind of a tough workshop, since we make everyone wake up around 6 AM and then go take photos! But the one person to miss this morning was Curits, and he was bummed out! All the more reason to make sure you join the morning outings on our photo workshops.

Wow again...over 28,000 views of my photos in the past 24 hours (7/22/2014), with most being of this picture. Thank you!

Wow! There have been over 80,000 views in the past 48 hours (10/19 to 10/20/2013)! Thanks to all who Liked, Shared, and Viewed it!

Picture Notes: Taken with three macro lenses stacked on a zoom lens on a Canon 40D.

Strobist info: I used a Canon Speedlite 430EX (with a Sto-Fen Omnibounce diffuser) tethered to the camera with a Canon OC-E3 Off-Camera Shoe Cord. I handheld the Speedlite in front of my eye on the side of lens. Unfortunately, due to the very shallow depth of field with the macro lenses, I had to take a number of pictures to get this one...temporarily blinding myself.

Happy MLK Day.

I feel this picture is appropriate for today.

It is a day for all people to remember that whatever differences we may have in terms of ethnicity or culture, they can and should be overcome for the benefit of society. Though there is plenty a ways to go still..
