Always shoot the elevator. That was the plan, anyway, as after the Platte River shot we headed south to Murray.
However, once we got to town (sorry for making you miss your turn Sam), we found that the tracks were fully shadowed. I knew that the Adams St. crossing a couple miles north of Union was one of the few open (relative to the rest of the Falls City sub) spots we could get another shot at, so we booked it there.
We found more foamers waiting as well once we pulled up, so we walked out to join them. Thankfully, we had somehow made time and gotten back in front of him, so I had time enough to hike a ways out into the field. Only so much I can do in that instance to have a different photo.
He had slowed down at this point and crawled his way into Union. He pulled onto the wye to flip around and head back north and was met with a crowd waiting for him. The sun had dipped below the trees by then, though, so away the camera went.

Form last week, when the sun still shined here in Kansas. UP 5997 West leads one of the afternoon manifest trains west in Bonner Springs, KS.

Yep, this is UP train RWYODS with two CNs, an NS, BNSF, and not a single UP unit in the consist. They're easing their way down the hill just south of Block after waiting for the MYCAS to finish their work in Villa Grove.

As the Mojave Desert blooms with wildflowers, NS 4393 west (MWCST) has been put away at Ansel for one east. That eastbound, UP 8628 (MRVLA), rattles the west switch at Ansel as it continues down grade towards the floor of the Antelope Valley.

A short inspection special with the 'Spirit of the Union Pacific' on the point rolls north through Modale, IA on the way to Sioux City and St. Paul, MN.
UP decided to send their own classic EMDs through Union, IL during Diesel Days. A GP60 and a GP40-2 lead LPW14 west.
We had to catch a buss at Tyinkrysset, so we left Sulebu at 6.15 - and had to wait almost two hours for the bus, because the wind helped us moving fast.

Lighting up time - A wonderful end to the day watching the sun setting over South Uist out across the Minch with some intense and incredible light catching the cliff edge of the thin sliver of land leading out to the lighthouse at Neist Point.
One of the most westerly locations in the UK, Neist Point can be a fickle location at the best of times, sunset can be very hit or miss here; however when it’s good, it really is good. It's a location that’s hard to beat as one of the best places to witness sunset and it really comes into its own when conditions are as spectacular as this.

UP's Job 61 tip toes through a residential area in Superior, WI on June 21, 2018. UP runs to Duluth twice a week (Tues. & Thur.) and on this Thursday UP 1480 and 671 have gathered a short train from the BNSF and CP at Rice's Point. A few miles ahead they'll yard their five cars at Itasca Yard and tie up for the day.
I've lived a few blocks away from the UP here for seven years now. For the first five plus years this job was dominated by leaser Geeps. But since then, there's been mostly home road power for Job 61. The UP Geeps have been pretty clean and nice too. Job 61 runs weekdays through our neighborhood and is the only regular train on the line.
