M-TPTP on the return trip to Topeka after completing their work in Bonner Springs. Nice light this evening for once.
UP 3035 leads a westbound manifest train around the curve near MP 59 on the UP Kansas Sub this evening. Another EMD Tier IV leading a train in the humid evening air with the smoke of the wildfires in the west giving the sunset a different glow.

I have been dealing with a sleeping problem: I dream like every single second when I'm asleep. Even when I waken and drift off, the dream continues. I wake up everyday in the morning with a strange, insidious exhaustion. It feels like my brain barely rests but my body does.
Two Union Pacific GEs bring up the rear of the crude oil train we've been chasing thus far, helping to push it up the steep grades of the former Rio Grande as it twists and turns along the Colorado River.
Thanks to a timely heads up from Cade I was able to sneak over to Linwood and nab this absolutely mint fresh GEAC4400CW rebuild at Linwood just after sunrise. They sure don't stay this clean for long. Great morning that was almost ruined due to clouds.

Two ratty looking geeps drag UP 4141 and the casket car up from the BNSF Gibson Yard. On it's way back from being displayed, the UP has to pass though Gibson Yard and use the mainline to get back to home track.
Although George was actually trailing, the crew left the lights on making this shot actually look decent.
Here's another IR-Infrared image. Never forget to look up when out exploring.

Tier 4 C45AH's aren't common on the UP except on the west coast where they are generally stuck, so when I saw a couple en route I figured I better get em.
I was planning on shooting this guy at Ames, NE passing the old tin-sheathed wooden elevator, but alas, upon arrival all that remains is some broken up concrete from the foundation. Darn it. I had time to head over to Schuyler to shoot it at some of the more formidable 'vaders in that town. The lesson, as always, shoot that stuff while you can.
On May 4th, 2019 the Overland Route witnessed the return of a Big Boy, under steam, for the first time in six decades, as UP 4014 double headed to Ogden, Utah with UP 844. Here the Alco duo thread the cut at Pine Ridge, east of Rock River, en route to the 150th anniversary celebration of the Transcontinental Railroad's completion.

November 2019, this might have been the last portrait shoot I did.

Uncle Pete lends several helping hands as NS train #371 grinds up and over Braswell Mountain in northwest Georgia.
UP 7947 is captured in evening light running westbound on the normally eastbound main 2, making it's way around the horseshoe curve at Irene.
