UP Troy Grove job heading south past the NB distant approach signal for the BN Aurora Sub diamond. The train is about to pass through the tiny little town of Shabbona Grove, IL, on a day where the temps struggled to get to 5 degrees.
Three rebuilt UP geeps have train LTC 17 southbound on the Albert Lea Sub. I'm a sucker for mini wings on UP standard cabs.

Taken from our stoep where a family of Kudu visited our waterhole every day.
As you can imagine I had to take quite a few photographs to capture the synchronicity between these two Oxpeckers.

So I don't bore you with another UP roster shot, here is GP40X 95 (soon to be renumbered 959) with some other power on the Council Bluffs service track. The MKT power is off of a haulage grain train. And there is a GP30 in the image, so happy Thirty Thursday to you.

Here is my redemption shot from the air of this train as it worked east at Loring. Not too shabby. Wish the background looked better but this is the brown wasteland that we get here in Kansas from November to March.

While in the countryside of Japan, we visited many Shinto Shrines and Buddhist Temples . The Jizo Statues are often made more engaging by adding clothing, such as t-shirts, or in this case hats. In any event, they always had the ability to make you stop and think. 20231024AllDressedUp
Warm morning light covers UP 7019 working at track speed out of the sag between Mohawk and Stoval Az. The sanitization of the Gila Subdivision continues with the loss of H2 Searchlights and now with the removal of the classic code line poles which use to line the right of way on the left side of this image. Progress is not a very photogenic thing.
Most trains working between Soo yard and Gladstone had 2-3 units with the odd job getting 4-5. This is SOFDA at Manistique on March 18, 2001. The OACTI had died at Manistique and after setting there train out at Cherry Valley the power had proceeded to the depot with a few cars that wouldn't fit in the siding. Instead of a recrew train SOFDA which was following along behind the ore train was tasked with picking up the power and empty ore cars and moving the whole combo on to Gladstone. Power and trains now combined 2002, 6594, 6618, 1762 and 586 start to move with the huge train.

On May 4th, 2019 the Overland Route witnessed the return of a Big Boy, under steam, for the first time in six decades, as UP 4014 double headed to Ogden, Utah with UP 844. Here the Alco duo thread the cut at Pine Ridge, east of Rock River, en route to the 150th anniversary celebration of the Transcontinental Railroad's completion.

This Red Winged Black Bird was sitting on the seeds and wouldn't let any other birds come near it. As is typical it puffed itself up and it was very effective!
I didn't know that Kenny Rogers was a conductor for the UP, but you can clearly see his doppelgänger in the left hand chair of this EMD SD70AH-T4 as it rolls east on the UP Kansas Sub just after sunrise this AM.
It was a Tier IV morning around these parts. Shot 2 EMD Tier IV's on back to back trains.
