This is an A1 mixed media piece I did. It features a self portrait, a ram of flowers, a bleeding hand and an industrial object. As well as lines that connect the whole ordeal. I did not plan this piece at all, and found the meaning after finishing the work. This is a piece on what is called in spanish “auto-suficiencia”, self sufficiency in english, which means only depending on yourself. The title, te fuistes y tengo un miedo menos, translates in english to, you left and I have one fear less. This relates to self sufficiency as after heartbreak, or being hurt by someone you once depended on, unlearning that dependancy and inverting in your own individualism.

On Saturday, November 3, 2018, the Anti-Bias Education working group of the DCAESJ met for the first time. The session was co-hosted by Project UnLearn at Halcyon. Participants engaged in concentric circles to learn more about each other, developed definitions of anti-bias education in small groups, participated in a consultancy protocol about a dilemma posed by one of the participants, and shared goals and commitments for upcoming sessions. www.dcareaeducators4socialjustice.org/stories/anti-bias-e...

Justifiably so as the assignment she had from me was to shoot Goddess Durga and not me , and if you believe in the unsciptured fatalistic aspects of divine and human life even the Goddess wanted to be part of Marziyas coming of age as a gifted street photographer and I say this in humility .

 

There are two aspects to photography at play between Marziya my student and me as Her Guru , I teach her photography while through her vision she teaches me to unlearn the photography I teach her.

 

She had moved with the camera towards the Goddess because that is what she saw I was not at all important to her chills vision or frame.

 

Life is the Gurukul of photography ..

 

And Marziya Shakir has been adopted as a disciple by another Maha Guru and though he has not met her as yet he considers her more worthy to walk his footsteps than me the one and only KG Maheshwariji ..Father of Pictorial Photography in India.

 

And this is perhaps her tribute to him.. so she conveniently eased me out diplomatically without a genetic conflict of interest.

 

And here Marziya according to me paid me my truest respect nothing is more important than the picture in the story you shoot.

 

And Only a Child can Shoot a Mother as a Child does..

This session for early childhood teachers, hosted by Project Unlearn and Teaching for Change's D.C. Area Educators for Social Justice, provided time for early childhood teachers to explore how to address issues of race, representation, and history in developmentally appropriate ways.

 

Many teachers face either the pressures to avoid difficult topics or to plunge in with little consideration of what is best for children at each stage of their development. This session provided time for teachers to explore and discuss these issues surrounded by children's books in the beautiful Halcyon Lab.

These small initiatives trigger confidence and the essence of team spirit that play a vital role in shaping the future of our MBA students.

 

14th June 2017, marked the Achievers Day celebrations recognizing the efforts of the students who excelled in various academic and non-academic inter class MBA competitions. The program was presided over by our honorable Chairman, Dr. T. Somasekhar. The program included a brief report of M.B.A. department activities presented by our Director, Dr. Rajasekar. This was followed by a beautiful video highlighting major activities organized by the department in the current semester. The prizes to the winners of various events were handed over by our Chairman and our Director. In his presidential speech our Chairman, Dr. T. Somasekhar emphasized on how education is exploring oneself and not merely confined to knowledge accumulation. As long as we consider ourselves a student all our life, we would benefit from learning the new and unlearning the old was the wisdom that he shared with our students. The event concluded with the students expressing their wholehearted appreciation and positive feedback for the events organized.
