A beautiful picture marred by a shirtless psycho with devil eyes (a.k.a. Uncle Jeff). After the picture was taken, Lexi flailed about, causing UJ (that would be Uncle Jeff to the unlearned) to topple backwards into the litterbox behind him. 'Twas glorious!

My Bachelor's Thesis process began bound with an EU Socrates Minerva project already during the first study year. I wrote the final research plan two years later, in 2006. I got feedback that very seldom anyone makes such a defined research plan on the Bachelor's level. The topic was operationalization of Holistic Cultural Competence Assessment Learning Model.
When I finalized the process a year later, I got feedback that I must change the target of my research. Etc. I was saved by the fact that the employer was very satisfied with my thesis. Therefore the Uni could not reject my work.
I'm still unlearning the attitude described in the song "When I fall in Love": "When I give my heart it will be completely...". The most important change in my behavior I've adopted during recent years is NOT to dedicate yourself completely with anything. Distribute and split your work, studying and all actions into networks. You'll be surprised how things begin to proceed.
On Saturday, November 3, 2018, the Anti-Bias Education working group of the DCAESJ met for the first time. The session was co-hosted by Project UnLearn at Halcyon. Participants engaged in concentric circles to learn more about each other, developed definitions of anti-bias education in small groups, participated in a consultancy protocol about a dilemma posed by one of the participants, and shared goals and commitments for upcoming sessions. www.dcareaeducators4socialjustice.org/stories/anti-bias-e...
Here's a snapshot of a rather shy Bengal cat, called Mimi. She is a F3 (or three generations separated from the Asian Leopard Cat) foundation cat, and is not allowed to appear on cat shows (only F4, or later are allowed). Her pedigree can be found here:
www.bengalpedigrees.com/showone.php?ticanum=C3S071505
Although she appeared very shy to me--a stranger--she is very affectionate to her owner. Many foundation cats are one-person cats, and show to some degree the behavior of their ancestors, the Asian Leopard Cat, which is a very shy and solitary cat species, very unlike common household cats (both purebred and non-pedigree cats).
Nevertheless, she was very playful, and wanted to play with me, as long as I didn't come too close, and never touched her with my fingers. She didn't mind me poking her with a feather and play with it, or throwing a ball, so she could retrieve it.
I was told Mimi was properly socialized until an age of 3 months, after which she was placed in a cattery, and so the socialization was partially "unlearned". Foundation cats need constant training to keep them interested in humans. And even then, they are often binding to only a select group of people, who need to be very patient with them. Foundation cats are only suitable to experienced cat lovers.

sometimes i think
i d rather die
than live
in a world
where there
is hate
that grows
like a tree
branches
corrupting
the skies
the seas
treacherous lies
body on rent
soul on lease
claustropbhic
existence
no fresh breeze
much happier
than us our
the birds and the bees
untouched by mans
sinful disease
a single moment
eternity
unlike us humans
wallowing
each second
in self pity
me
a rusty
lock
corroded insides
a hairpin
as a master key
unlearning life
life’s greatest
tragedy
unconfused
agony
to be or not to be
in the hereafter
a wordless poem
eulogizing
a dreaded poets society

You that build all the guns
You that build the death planes
You that build the big bombs
You that hide behind walls
You that hide behind desks
I just want you to know
I can see through your masks
You that never done nothin'
But build to destroy
You play with my world
Like it's your little toy
You put a gun in my hand
And you hide from my eyes
And you turn and run farther
When the fast bullets fly
Like Judas of old
You lie and deceive
A world war can be won
You want me to believe
But I see through your eyes
And I see through your brain
Like I see through the water
That runs down my drain
You fasten the triggers
For the others to fire
Then you set back and watch
When the death count gets higher
You hide in your mansion
As young people's blood
Flows out of their bodies
And is buried in the mud
You've thrown the worst fear
That can ever be hurled
Fear to bring children
Into the world
For threatening my baby
Unborn and unnamed
You ain't worth the blood
That runs in your veins
How much do I know
To talk out of turn?
You might say that I'm young
You might say I'm unlearned
But there's one thing I know
Though I'm younger than you
Even Jesus would never
Forgive what you do
Let me ask you one question
Is your money that good?
Will it buy you forgiveness?
Do you think that it could?
I think you will find
When your death takes its toll
All the money you made
Will never buy back your soul
And I hope that you die
And your death'll come soon
I'll follow your casket
In the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand over your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead...
For the 100 Theme Art Challenge, number 8, "Innocence".
The original story version of Little Red Riding Hood is actually far more disturbing than the modern version which children nowadays would be told. The story originated as a tale told to warn young girls against strangers (particularly predatory men, or "wolves") and avoid situations where their virtue might be compromised, insinuating rape.
This turned out more graphic than I intended, but I think the point is made more directly this way. In addition to the girl, I think that innocence is also lost in the reader upon reading the original version for the first time - a simple childhood story now heavy with adult connotations and violence offers a startling new perspective that cannot be unlearned.
I joined the women of the Dark Waters Dragon Boat for a morning run. It is very different from canoeing! I had a lot to learn and to unlearn. New Denver, BC.
...Trying to grasp things, you lose them.
Forcing a project to completion,
you ruin what was almost ripe.
Therefore the Master takes action
by letting things take their course.
He remains as calm at the end
as at the beginning.
He has nothing,
thus has nothing to lose.
What he desires is non-desire;
what he learns is to unlearn.
He simply reminds people
of who they have always been.
He cares about nothing but the Tao.
Thus he can care for all things.”
- Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching -
Harold Friedell was my instructor of composition in Union Seminary. He was organist/choirmaster at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church on Parfk Avenue and composer of many anthems still respected today. My first year consisted of unlearning many things and bending to what was (and IS) considered good taste. We were friends finally by my second year.
