Malay name: Punai jambu, or Punai-Gading Jambu
IUCN (3.1): Near Threatened
The appearance of this beautiful and elegant dove created quite a buzz among birders and bird photographers including yours truly. Birders throngs this location from out of states such as Pahang, Perak, Melaka, and Negeri Sembilan, speaks much of how rare it is to come across this species. Last year, many had missed the colorful males, as we recorded mostly females.
The jambu fruit dove is a smallish colourful fruit dove. The plum-red face and pink “blush” on the white chest of the cartoonish-looking male are unique. Plainer female and juvenile can be difficult to separate from female Black-naped Fruit Dove; look out for Jambu’s bright white eye-ring and orange bill. Generally uncommon and nomadic; roams widely across lowland and foothill forests, where it seeks out fruiting trees. Forages quietly in the canopy, typically singly or in pairs.

Almighty God says, "The biggest difference between God and mankind is that God rules over all things and supplies all things. God is the source of everything, and mankind enjoys all things while God supplies them. That is to say, man enjoys all things when he accepts the life God bestows on all things. Mankind enjoys the results of God’s creation of all things, whereas God is the Master. Right? Then from the perspective of all things, what is the difference between God and mankind? God can see clearly the growth patterns of all things, and controls and dominates the growth patterns of all things. That is, all things are in God’s eyes and within His scope of inspection. … Hence God is God, and man is man! Even if man keeps researching science and the laws of all things, it is only within a limited range, whereas God controls everything. For man, that is infinite."

Unique photo of a Bald Eagle in flight. I was using my vehicle as a blind so as not to disturb him. This guy gave me lots of great looks.
The highlight of the shrine is the rows of torii gates, known as Senbon torii (千本鳥居), "thousand torii". The custom to donate a torii began spreading from the Edo period (1603–1868) to have a wish come true or in gratitude for a wish that came true, with successive gates being added up to the present day by donors out of gratitude. Along the main path there are around 800 torii gates

The Unique Salt Marshes of North Norfolk..North Norfolk is well known for its unique landscape of mudflats and saltmarshes. Norfolk’s mudflats are largely concentrated in the Wash and saltmarshes are found along the north coast of the county between Holme and Salthouse. These areas are not only known for their breathtaking beauty but also for a place to see some of the best wildlife. Throughout the year, the scenery transforms and there is always something new to enjoy, from migrating birds to an array of plant life
Fraser Island is a World Heritage Site and the largest sand island in the world. It is a place of full of superlatives, incredible uniqueness and immense diversity.
More than 865 species of plants thrive on the island. It is the only place on earth where tall rainforest grows in sand. In Pile Valley, 1,000-year-old rough-barked satinays trees are found. Despite being logged the kauri pines dominate in some areas.
Fraser Island has over 100 freshwater lakes as well as the second highest concentration of lakes in Australia. The freshwater lakes on Fraser Island are some of the cleanest lakes in the world.
The water in this river at first looks mirky but it's the exact opposite. The water is SO clear that all you can barely see it and what you do in fact see is the sandbed that the river runs over and everything under the surface.
The most unique feature about this photo is that I managed to capture a panorama without a crane in sight. Downtown Boise construction has been so aggressive over the last decade that the skyline changes monthly. The newest building (still under construction) from this point of view is on the right with the Clearwater logo, which includes a new underground mass transit bus station. The Idaho State Capitol building is tucked away to the right of the Zions Bank tower. There are several buildings under construction behind camera, and several more planned that haven't broken ground yet.
The sky was filled with a smokey haze from distant forest fires, but I believe it actually helped with the exposure.

We haven't been to Alaska for a bit so let's head back a half dozen years for one.
The railfan coveted three scheme lashup is a true treat and quite the rare event on the Alaska Railroad. In the decade I lived in Alaska I can count on one hand the number of times I got to photograph it happening. By this late date there were only three GP40-2s in the old 1970s black and gold scheme with the rest of the fleet wearing the current 'Baby Mac' paint and the only units left liveried in the 1980s 'Alaska Bold' scheme were GP38-2s that were mostly relegated to yard service in Anchorage and Fairbanks. But once in a while one would get out on the road such as happened on this picture perfect late winter day.
The geep trio are leading a 120N from Whittier to Anchorage seen emerging from the north end of the 13,338 ft long Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel at MP F5.6 on the Alaska Railroad's Whittier Branch.
The tunnel which is the only land based access to the important port community of Whittier on Prince William Sound is a marvel of engineering. Originally built by the US Army and opened in 1943 it was converted to dual use more than two decades ago and is the longest shared highway/rail tunnel in North America and is essentially a 2.5 mile long grade crossing.
For those of you interested in learning more about this fascinating tunnel click here to visit the Alaska state DOT's official web site on the tunnel:

My house is built on hallowed ground and land that was reclaimed from the sea. It suits the essence of me and calms my spirit to walk in my garden knowing that it was left for many years, an abandoned place until the house was built and the stony and sandy ground where nothing much grew except ancient plants; wild flowers that blew in on the wind. Then someone planted trees from all four corners of the earth and plants that should not have survived began to flourish as if the roots of these trees breathed new life into the earth. There have been only a few guardians of this magical place and I am honoured to be the current guardian. At first I tried to plant what I liked; tried to enforce my will on this holy place, but in time I realised something … you cannot force a garden to grow; to bend to your will. A garden evolves slowly over time of it's own accord mostly and we, as guardians, should allow it to guide us. In this way I have found peace and happiness here and I embrace the changes of my ever-evolving garden. I seldom buy anything new to plant. I wait for the winds; I wait for the seasons; I witness the changes and I grow and evolve as a person in much the same way as my garden does. It is a joy to anticipate each new season; each new wind; and to see what appears. There is always something unexpected appearing. Life is full of surprises; of serendipitous moments. I wonder sometimes about these old trees. I think whoever planted them was guided and perhaps the garden welcomed the dappled shade on what once was a desert. Certainly I feel myself sometimes directed to introduce a new species. Perhaps I am guided also by a hand that I cannot fathom. We are not meant to understand everything. If we allow ourselves to just be, we may find, without effort, how our path unfolds with relative ease. I have found this to be the case. All those years of struggle and now I can just let go … it really is that easy to be content.
p.s. I was compelled reluctantly to remove a Laburnum tree that I thought might be harmful to my cats. I had always wanted such a tree with it's beautiful yellow flowers … but in it's place a Forsythia grew with a profusion of yellow flowers. I did not plant it! Magic? Yes, I believe so! : 0)

“We leave our footprints in a place to mingle with the echoes of all that went before; our heartbeats; our rhythm; the patterns of our lives.” - AP
I wander in the wilderness
my garden of delights
a jungle by the turquoise sea
a land so flat; the moon at night
shines down with silvery fingers
and touches the ground with magical spells
and come the breaking dawn of morning
all ills are banished and all is well
the dark and mysterious creatures
who loiter in the dusk
emerge in brilliant sunshine
with all-seeing eyes; an elephant tusk
protrudes and scythes the longest grasses
parts the meadow like the ancient sea
leaving behind a trail of crimson
flowers of sorrel and sweet harmony
reigns here as the King of the Jungle
seeks solace in the afternoon siesta
ignores the urban sounds outside
these walls; these trees; a back-firing Fiesta
alerts the songbirds from their idle rest
they flitter and flutter from tree to tree
and as I lie within the striped hammock
I swing and sing low to the sound of the breeze
a mist arises suddenly; springs up from the sea
settles a cloak; an air of mystery
around the shoulders of myself and the limbs
of the ancient trees as I sip my Pimms
I can barely keep my eyes from closing
the warmth of the air so cloying and deep
I find myself falling gently to the humming of bees
as I lapse now into a soundless sleep
I awake to find the blue sky black
lit by a billion diamonds or more
an infinite guide is laid out before me
the wisdom of ancient celestial stars of yore
some say when we see them
they have already died
long ago before our ancestors
what does this imply
do our eyes deceive us
or are we psychic or perhaps
we are more knowledgeable than we realise
all we need falls easily into our laps
but still we often ignore
the instincts that are given
override them; divide them
dilute them; we're driven
to only see clearly to the end of our noses
we fail to stop often to smell the scent of the roses
take stock; stand still
absorb the nature of all living things
for in this garden I discovered
nature brings happiness and happiness brings
peace of mind; plentiful bounty
the sweetest fruits of the earth
the love that will bind us
circumnavigate the world's girth
here I find every day all that I need
the flora; the fauna; all that set seed
and I've no desire to be anywhere else
as much as I desire to be here
in this garden full of Heaven
there is love; there is goodness that I hold dear
from the humblest of creatures
find the beauty in a fly
sing so loud like a blackbird
view the world through a child's eyes.

While travelling through the streets of Kolkata, I reached Kumartuli, the exquisite idol city..It seemed a rare and unique planet to me out there..Being surrounded by the unborn idols, being immersed in strangeness, diversity and vibrance..I was lost in one unique world....
Unique model created for a rich man from Milan in 1947-48. The car only has 848km on the clock since new, and always remained in the same family.
Unique Queen Anne-style house on Montclair Avenue with a second-story balcony integrated into the gable front, circa late 19th Century.
Stonehenge is perhaps the world's most famous prehistoric monument. It was built in several stages: the first monument was an early henge monument, built about 5,000 years ago, and the unique stone circle was erected in the late Neolithic period about 2500 BC. It’s on fbe Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, England, two miles west of Amesbury. It consists of an outer ring of vertical Sarsen standing stones, each around 13 feet high, seven feet wide, and weighing around 25 tons, topped by connecting horizontal lintel stones. In this picture.you see, from inside the store circle, the "Heel Stone” as it appears in the distance, almost like a gunsight.and around the 21st of June, on the morning of the first day of the summer solstice the sun always comes up exactly on top of the “Heel Stone”, when it is viewed from this vantage point and shines on the legendary Stone Circle. Stonehenge is, without doubt, one of the most remarkable things I have ever experienced. As you’re looking at it, one of the most striking things you notice is the fact that there are absolutely no stones within sight, in any direction. All of these stones were brought there from far distant places, under incredibly difficult conditions and many centuries.

A really unique sky this afternoon in Margate on the Kent coast - it rained, hailed, had sunshine and dramatic clouds. I was trying to capture a reflection of the sky on the freshly uncovered beach, sadly the reflection didnt come off, hindered by gusts of wind and a few drops of rain, but the image is still nice.

I love the mailboxes we see in West Virginia! This one was on a one track gravel road. I wish I had one like this! :) So unique and I guarantee you won't find one in the big box stores! LOL Happy Sabbath to all and a blessed weekend.
One of the unique things we found in our travels through the southwest was the Center of the World in Felicity, California near the border of Arizona. The town, with a population of 2, includes the Church on the Hill constructed on a 35 foot manmade hill, a 21 foot glass and granite pyramid built over the bronze marker of the Center of the World and dozens of polished granite panels containing the history of humanity as written by the founder, Jacques-Andre Istel. Admission is $10.00. The hill is enclosed by a fence.
Happy Fence Friday!
A unique perspective of Sugarloaf Mountain in the Eastern Hudson Highlands captured from North Point on Crow's Nest Mountain.
With the skies dominated by cloud, the sun broke through and lit the Eastern Highlands only for a brief moment. Compressing the scene with a long lens emphasized the dramatic scale of the Highlands in relation to the northern surroundings.
