The Bass of Inverurie was a former motte and bailey castle. It was built by the Earls of Garioch in the 1100's. It is quite unique and an interesting find for me a few years ago.

A shot planned months in advance took place on Day 2 while chasing UP 4014 on its eastward journey. Built in 1941, the 25-engine Big Boy fleet never operated east of the Mississippi during its regular revenue service. This 2026 trip is the locomotive’s inaugural journey across Ohio and into the Northeast.
What makes this shot special is fans gathered to witness the 1.2-million-pound goliath glide at track speed along the former Nickel Plate Road corridor. Because the Big Boy was never originally designed for this specific route, it was uniquely treated to clearances and bridge capacities during its run along the southern shore of Lake Erie.
Here we see one of many bridges UP 4014 crossed on its trek across the NKP, headed east in Vermilion, OH, as it crossed the Vermilion River.

The unique dairy barn originally stabled 52 milk cows. It offers ground-level access on all three levels. Wagons entered on the upper level to deposit hay into the central haymow on the main floor below. The Brethren would drive the empty wagons around the circular barn floor and exit the same door they came in, eliminating the potentially dangerous activity of backing wagons out of a barn. The cows stabled on the main floor faced inward toward the haymow for ease of feeding. Manure shoveled through trapdoors to the cellar was stored until needed as fertilizer in the gardens. The Shakers maintained a working dairy farm at Hancock into the 1950s.

The stone sculptures in Sno, a small village in the Kazbegi region of Georgia, are part of a remarkable art project in the Caucasus. These sculptures consist of impressive stone artworks depicting giant faces, often with a melancholic or mysterious expression. They were created by local artist Merab Piranishvili, who is renowned for his unique ability to bring faces and emotions to life in natural stone. Sno is located near the breathtaking Stepantsminda area and the imposing Mount Kazbegi. The stone sculptures are a hidden gem in this region, attracting an increasing number of art enthusiasts and travelers. The site exudes a serene, almost meditative atmosphere—perfect for those seeking something unique off the beaten path. If you ever find yourself near Kazbegi, these sculptures are well worth a visit. They offer a truly unique experience where art and nature come together in perfect harmony.
De stenen sculpturen in Sno, een klein dorpje in de Kazbegi-regio van Georgië, maken deel uit van een bijzonder kunstproject in de Kaukasus. De sculpturen bestaan uit indrukwekkende stenen kunstwerken van gigantische gezichten, die vaak een melancholische of mysterieuze uitstraling hebben. Rain clouds gather over the historic village of Shirakawa-go, a village in the Japanese Alps that's known for its traditional gassho-style houses.
La 460-067 'Hohle Gasse', passe le village d'Egolzwil, en tête d'une rame IC2000/2020, bariolée au gré des rénovations, et en mission d'un IR Genève - Lucerne, peu avant que la moitié de ces trains soient transférés au roulement des Twindexx.
Par chance, entre "fortes" chutes de neige et franc soleil, une journée de début décembre était propice à une sortie avant le changement de service horaire et le changement évoqué ci-dessus. Ce sera malheureusement le seul épisode neigeux significatif de cet hiver 23/24, pour les plaines de l'ouest suisse.

A unique stretch of road which takes you right out to the ocean’s edge. In 2005, the road was voted Norway’s «Engineering Feat of the Century», and is also known to be the world's most beautiful drive. It connects Averøy with the mainland via a series of small islands and islets spanned by a total of eight bridges over 8274 meters.
The road was opened in 1989 and is toll free.
The Atlantic Road has National Tourist Route status and the entire stretch between Bud and Kristiansund is one continuous experience packed with coastal scenery, culture and history. The contrasts between a trip on a sun-soaked and tranquil summer day and a foam-sprayed journey in a storm from the northwest are amazing. Take your time and open all of your senses. The "Atlantic Road experience will give you memories for life. Park your car at designated stopping places, climb a hillock and enjoy the salty air and the magnificent view.

Newts have evolved to engage in unique mating practices. Males and females are drawn together through a potent release of hormones. The male grabs the female from behind and wrestles her to the bottom of the water, where he deposits a sperm package on a leaf. The female then uptakes the sperm into an opening leading to her sex organ.
In some species, as with this eastern spotted newt, the female has small appendages on either side of the opening to assist her. This is a rare photo of a female swimming alone with these appendages still extended. She has either just mated or is looking to do so.
