I used a 6 stop ND filter on this lens so I can use it on very bright days.

Yep, definitely a bad guy. I'm not sure if I overworked the torso area, I mean, his name is Maniac, it's supposed to look a little unhinged I guess...

The Brickset Huwbots. While Red and Yellow are calm and methodical, happy to keep things running smoothly, Green is erratic, unhinged and obsessed with Clickits.

Mind and body are different. The body and outside of the picture is calm, balanced and steady, the head in the center (inside) of the image is 'unhinged'.

What does this image mean to you, what does it inspire you think? A picture is worth a thousand words, therefore it must be worth a thousand thoughts.

Not bad for a first try, I'm trying to learn how to do the "crazy" or "insomnia" type picture. Anyone have any tips they can give to help me out??

A picture paints a thousand words.

In this case probably only two or three.

York, UK.

Mrs Andy saw this when we had a walk around Settle, North Yorkshire, UK recently. The background is a blue green in reality but image seems to suit black and white better. Also I don't often put a frame around an image but thought the highlights on the photo were accentuated by the white border.

The title is also Mrs Andys doing. I didn't argue as she is female and therefore always right... 😀. After reflection I wonder if she was alluding to my state of mind when thinking up the title. Probably...

Taken with my new (ish) Sony RX10 which I enjoy using hugely.

In this chilling look, Ivanna channels the gritty, nostalgic terror of classic slasher flicks like Friday the 13th and Sleepaway Camp. Set against the eerie stillness of the woods and the faint glow of headlights, she becomes the perfect blend of beauty and danger—every scream queen and survivor rolled into one. Her “Unhinged and Feral” top paired with metallic-finish jeans exudes rebellious energy, as if she’s ready to fight off the killer or become the twist ending herself. The vintage car and soft lens flares add a cinematic touch, capturing that unmistakable ‘80s horror film magic. This look doesn’t just pay tribute to the genre—it revives it, embodying the thrill, fear, and adrenaline of a midnight chase under a blood moon.

This photo was at Crixus Carnival of Carnage: Macabre Dark Adult RP Camp Edelwood. They have a lot of hunts and other halloween events going on so please come and check them out.

From the Lister Medical building, while filming the documentary Unhinged: Surviving Joburg.

Stepping out of the dimension stream, what I see is something that both fills me with joy, and disheartens me. Wayne Tower.

Gotham. Again. And in the recent past, too.

I miss Dana’s face already… Why can’t I ever be brought to somewhere more exciting? Like an alternate version of Neo-Gotham. Or Metropolis. Or another planet.

Or the future! The future would be so schway. But then again. No time like the present.

“A.L.F.R.E.D, which universe are we in?”

Earth 117, Sir. The immediate surroundings appear to be unchanged from the past version of our home universe. More data will need to be collected from the Batcomputer here. It is currently 1:18am, and we are due for snow in the coming days. Despite a distinct lack of crime, life signs are present inside, yet aren’t detected in any street, meaning-

“Meaning that everyone is scared of going outside anyway… Eerie.”

I pass a wall with an image of Bane spray-painted on it.

Someone’s a big fan of the guy.

I turn around, and on the wall directly opposite are the words:

“The Bat lives”.

That’s a good sign. Especially since Wayne Enterprises is still standing, given that it’s currently towering over the city ahead. I guess it’s time to find out what’s up with the Bruce here. I start to move through the streets, slowly.

A glare from a rooftop light is reflected off something moving above. This city is far too empty and quiet for my liking. Even for night time.

I catch a glimpse of another shadow shift atop the roofs. Someone is watching me.

I dart around the street corner to avoid their line of sight.

Without warning, I’m blinded by searchlights. And a small handful of officers comes out, guns aimed at me.

Slag! It’s the GCPD!

How could A.L.F.R.E.D not detect these guys, a few blocks away?

A voice echoes through the street over a loudspeaker:

“BATMAN, THIS IS THE POLICE, WE HAVE YOU SURROUNDED. PUT YOUR HANDS UP AND GET ON YOUR KNEES, NICE AND EASY.

Suddenly a flurry of red dots covers my head, legs, and chest. Snipers. Slag it! I should’ve gone civilian. An officer walks towards me slowly, and brandishes a pair of handcuffs.

“You’ve got a lot to answer for, for all those murders. All those people you’ve killed.”

“Listen buddy, I have no idea what you’re on about so-“

He punches me, without remorse.

“No wonder all your friends left you. You’re an insult to the Batman name.”

“You’ve just made a big mistake.”

I’m not going down without a fight. I activate my stealth, going indivisible, and instantly roll to the other corner of the street, ploughing over the GCPD officer, and leaving behind a slew of bullets in response to my disappearance. The officer who punched me calls for a ceasefire, while everyone else is ordered to search the area. A baby starts to cry in the distance, in response to the gunfire.

What on earth happened here.

A searchlight casts my shadow on a wall, and the officers quickly get back on my tail.

“There he is! Fire!”

I barely dodge, as a bullet whirrs past the ears of my suit.

Any lower, and I would’ve had quite the headache.

Well, this is no fun.

I’ve run out of places to go. I’m pinned at the end of a run down, crumbling alley, with no escape, and the searchlights and voices getting increasingly closer. A whisper comes my way:

“Psst! You! With the long ears! In here!”

Without hesitation I follow the voice which came through the cracks in the walls, past the bricks, and into the long, winding tunnels of a sewer. The caped silhouette guides me from the system, to the Gotham catacombs, then goes to speak again.

It’s a young kid’s voice. Couple of years younger than me. I swear I recognise it.

“I don’t know why you’re running around, dressed up as Batman. But it’s real dangerous to be doing that these days.”

“Tim?!”

He stops leading me, and looks back. He’s young. A lot younger than when I last saw him. Or a version of him. He takes off his mask, revealing his face.

“How do you know me?”

“It’s a long story.”

Tim looks at me with the coldest stare. He’s right to. He deserves an explanation.

“My name is Terry. We’ve met before. But in different circumstances. A different time. A different universe… Where I’m from… I’m… Bruce’s son. I’m the Batman of the Future.”

“Batman… of the future.”

I take off my mask in return, instantly he’s taken aback.

“Holy shit. You look just like him, but… younger.”

“You’re one to talk about being young.”

“What’s that meant to mean?”

“I’ve run into versions of you a few times. Older. But never this young.”

“Stop. Let’s back up. What exactly are you doing? Don’t you know how dangerous it is here? Why this time and place?”

“Tim… where I come from… and lots of other places… Bruce is dead. Or gone. I'm trying to find him.

But, he’s here right? The graffiti out there said ‘The Bat Lives”

“I… How long ago did you get here? Do you even know what’s going on?

“I just arrived. Why. What has happened.”

“Bruce… died.”

I’m left speechless. No matter how many times I hear this news, it always hits me hard. To know that my father has died. Not once. But many times. Throughout countless universes. And every time, it’s something new. We continue to traverse the sewer, and he begins to inform me about the events of this universe.

“Recently. There’s been a series of events set up to exhaust myself and Bruce.

Well. More Bruce than me. These events were some attempt to break the Bat.

And it worked.

Arkham was blown up. All the criminals running around. And then all these… mini boss type guys. Bruce had to undergo so many trials. And then just when he was at his weakest.

He killed him.”

I’d heard about the Arkham events, from Bruce’s case files. It honestly astounds me how he managed to soldier through. But it all ended with his back broken.

I’d even met him in my time, nothing but a shell of the beast he once was.

And since then his name had never left my lips, nor had he ever crossed my mind, until I got here.

“Bane. Bane did this.”

“Yeah…”

“Where… where I come from. He only broke Bruce’s back.”

“Yeah… he did that too.”

Of all the universes to come to. I never thought this would happen. Bane was always one for honour and tradition. But no. Instead Bruce dies again for some unknown reason in this stupid grand scheme of things.

“So… this… This is just one of many universes where Bruce is dead? I’m so sorry... I’ve failed him here too… and the murders?”

“We’ll get there soon enough. Through here.”

We reach the end of the sewer line, to a gate, with a small panel to the right. Tim touches it, and the gate swings open. I guess this solves one of my problems.

We’re going to the Batcave.

Dick is already there, standing in the middle of the cave, in full Nightwing gear. He turns to see us, startled by our sudden unexpected presence and assumes stance, ready to fight. Then he looks at my face, and like Tim, steps back.

“Bruce?!”

“I-… not quite”

We explain to him the events leading up to this, and he continues the story.

“Terry. It’s not safe here. Not for any of us. Robin… I mean Tim has been through a lot, just trying to keep ‘him’ grounded. But he’s unhinged.”

“Who? Who’s unhinged?”

“The man who replaced Bruce. His way of doing things isn’t what Gotham needs. He isn’t what Gotham needs. But someone had to take down Bane. He… he was flaunting Bruce’s body across the streets. And. While we don’t agree with his actions. He did what he had to do.”

Tim chimes in:

“But it didn’t stop there. Because Bane let out Arkham’s inmates again. Gotham was being ruled by the criminal elite for a while. And he took it upon himself to capture them all.”

To which Dick retorts:

“Which he didn’t. He killed them all, instead of bringing them in.

And he throws the corpses back into their cells.

Turning Arkham into one big stinking cemetery, with only one living inhabitant.

The man who now calls himself ‘Batman’.”

I’ve had enough of them avoiding the elephant in the room. So I ask them.

“Who is this man?”

“Azrael.”

I should’ve known. He was in the files too. But, he’s all but forgotten in the present I live in. I heard he had some sort of god complex to him. Or ‘Bat complex.’ That explains the whole ‘The Bat lives” thing.

Tim looks up at me.

“But, it’s all going to be fixed, right? You can help us now, the Batman of the Future.

Do it. Fight with us. Take him down.

You’re the Batman we need. Gotham needs hope again. We need-“

A noise startles all of us. Both Tim and Dick instantly look panicked. Tim keeps his voice down low:

“He’s here.”

Dick looks me dead in the eye.

“You’ve got to leave. Now. Otherwise, he’ll kill you.”

“Why would he kill me?”

“Because now the one true Batman has arrived.”

A voice echoes throughout the cave:

“I am the one true Batman.”

Immediately a Batmobile flares up to life. And begins to motor towards us, in the middle of the cave.

We barely dodge it as it speeds through the turnstile and into Gotham.

Dick is quick to spring into action, attaches his escrima sticks to his bike, hops on, and starts up. He looks back at us.

“This is our chance.

This city has had enough of his rule.

He’s going down tonight. With or without you, Terry.”

And with that, he speeds off, in pursuit. Leaving us in the dirt.

If Azrael is as dangerous as the they say, Dick is going to need support as soon as possible.

“Tim, are there any more functioning Batmobiles?”

“Azrael took almost everything from the cave when he began his war. Or rather we kicked him out, and he stole them.

That was the last one. I can take my Redbird, but if you’re to follow it’ll be on foot.”

“No. I’ve got something better.”

I grin at him, expand my wings, and activate my boosters.

There’s no question of what happens next. Tim and I rocket out of the cave, hoping to catch up to the inevitable conflict.

Our chase hits a dead end, as we lose sight of Dick.

With no Oracle, and a deceased Alfred in this universe, we have to improvise. Though it’s a no brainer where Azrael would take the Batmobile, where everything he has is.

His safe house at Arkham.

We arrive at the site. A huge hole is in the side of one of the old structures, while another is non-existent. All as a result of Bane’s attacks. No sign of Dick, or Azrael. Tim pulls out a scanner from his belt, looking for life signs.

A scream echoes throughout the area.

We start to walk through the rubble of old walls, but eventually the rubble starts to turn to rocks as we move into the courtyard of the Asylum.

Then the rocks to blood.

And the blood to dead bodies.

Body.

After body.

After body.

Never had I seen this amount of murder before.

“Who could do all this?”

“Him.”

Tim points behind me, as he looks up from the scanner.

Sure enough there he is, Azrael, standing in front of Arkham Asylum, with Dick hanging above the entrance, his trophy.

Thunder strikes, illuminating him, as he speaks:

“Come to me, pretender. Face the wrath of the BATMAN!”

It is clearly visible that the moss to the right of this fall is turning to stone. When prehistoric man was petrified it will have been at the sight of a pack of cave lions or situations such as when an aurock turns against a husband in the far distance. Today when people are petrified it is usually because they have the culture to be - let's say pizza and a Dario Argento film, or, because they are close to natural or modern-man-made terror and disaster. When basic life forms are petrified, they can do nothing to escape the gradual coating of limestone that is a downside to one of their preferred environments. It seems that the meaning of 'petrified' is so different for each of these three contexts that it is distinctly un-semantic that they share the same word. With stealth the prehistoric man may, or may not, survive; with another pizza, a second Italian Galio is put in the DVD player; with another unhinged ideology the seas get hotter and limited concepts keep to their game plans and deferred or hyperbolic paradises. The basic life forms live in the here-and-now. Each moss has a moment of youth and dies immortalized into a growing lattice of stone that soon overgrows the original wisps and pads into the troll stones and concretions that we see today.

Meet Sheena, she’s kind of a nut job.

Sheena is an alter-ego I jokingly gave myself on a night that I felt I was dressed extra “punk”

I’m using her to help paint a picture here.

I took this to try and depict a certain feeling I’ve had in the recent past.

A feeling that my personality was splitting between a normal Shelby and a deranged embarrassing idiot.

I have had a lot going on lately. It’s all been quite personal so I won’t go into details but I feel like this picture is a little late.

And I only say that because the past week or so has been entirely different.

I’m now realizing I very rarely explain a photo for you guys.

I very rarely do that for anyone.

That is only based on my own insecurities.

Ps. Id like to take this opportunity to say one thing. In all honesty it is in fact directed at one particular person, but if you feel you have done this to a fellow artist in your past then go ahead and take the advice anyways.

Do not judge what you don’t understand.

When I said I wasn’t to proud of a photo that should not have been your opportunity to cut me down.

I have insecurities, I am human.

And not only that my work is completely different from your portraits.

I am baring my soul in my work. It is PURELY my emotion and my feelings.

And being an artist yourself you should understand that a human is a sensitive thing.

And overcoming such sensitive circumstances and putting it in words, music, or photos is an incredible thing.

You have over stepped your boundaries one to many times and this subtlety you think you have is amusing but not quite amusing enough for me to continuously ignore it.

After the MANY stabs you have made at me I have good reason to hate you, and I honestly do. But never once have I stooped to the level of insulting you or your art.

Because im simply not that low. Even after the indecency of your unnecessary comments I still understand that it is not my place to judge you or your work. And in all honesty I still find your work to be quite good. But your shitty attitude towards a world filled with artists will only hurt you in the long run.

My work, my imagination, my life, MY RULES.

Im an artist, and a person. Im aloud to have doubts in myself, it’s a naturally human thing to do.

Hop down off your horse, you’re an amateur like the rest of us.

You’re a person like the rest of us.

& just because you have no modesty doesn’t mean everyone in the world should act the same.

Okay! Now that that is over with.

How is everyone.

And another thing.

There is a really cool website everyone should check out. It’s a site that allows you to put together photo books, and portfolios and sell them online its really neat.

Ive been thinking a lot about how we should put together a group and invite some amazing artists and put books together like once a month and sell them for charity.

It seems like an awesome idea. Just need some friends and fire power!

The silver gull (Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae) is the most common gull of Australia. It has been found throughout the continent, but particularly at or near coastal areas. It is smaller than the Pacific gull (Larus pacificus), which also lives in Australia.

The silver gull should not be confused with the herring gull, which is called "silver gull" in many other languages (scientific name Larus argentatus, German Silbermöwe, French Goéland argenté, Dutch zilvermeeuw), but is a much larger, robust gull with no overlap in range.

Taxonomy

It has traditionally been placed in the genus Larus, as is the case with many gulls, but is now placed in the genus Chroicocephalus. Hartlaub's gull (C. hartlaubii) of South Africa was formerly sometimes considered to be subspecies of the silver gull.

There are three subspecies:

•C. n. forsteri (Mathews, 1912) – north and northeast Australia, New Caledonia, Loyalty Islands

•C. n. novaehollandiae (Stephens, 1826) – southern Australia and Tasmania

•C. n. scopulinus (Forster, JR, 1844) or red-billed gull – New Zealand

Description

Juvenile (first winter)

The head, body, and tail are white. The wings are light grey with white-spotted, black tips. Adults range from 40–45 cm (15-17 Inches) in length. Mean wingspan is 94 cm (37 Inches) . Juveniles have brown patterns on their wings, and a dark beak. Adults have bright red beaks—the brighter the red, the older the bird.

Distribution and habitat

Silver gulls are found in all states of Australia, as well as New Zealand and New Caledonia. It is a common species, having adapted well to urban environments and thriving around shopping centres and garbage dumps. Their successful adaption to urban habitats have seen their population increase in areas of human activity, with the availability of nesting grounds the only limiting factor on population growth.

Silver gulls have twice been recorded in the United States; one bird was shot in August 1947 at the mouth of the Genesee River, Lake Ontario, and another was photographed in Salem County, New Jersey, in autumn 1996. Both are believed to have escaped from captivity.

Behaviour

Chroicocephalus novaehollandiae - MHNT

The silver gull has a sharp voice consisting of a variety of calls. The most common call is a harsh, high pitched 'kwarwh'.

Feeding

The silver gull naturally feeds on worms, fish, insects and crustaceans. It is a successful scavenger, allowing increased numbers near human settlements. It is known to pester humans for scraps and steal unattended food.

Breeding

Breeding occurs from August to December, typically in large colonies on offshore islands. The nest is located on the ground and consists of seaweed, roots, and plant stems. The nests may be found in low shrubs, rocks and jetties. Typical clutch size is one to three eggs. Often two broods are raised in a year, and both adults share nest-building, incubation and feeding.

Gulls, or colloquially seagulls, are seabirds of the family Laridae in the suborder Lari. They are most closely related to the terns and skimmers and only distantly related to auks, and even more distantly to waders. Until the 21st century, most gulls were placed in the genus Larus, but that arrangement is now considered polyphyletic, leading to the resurrection of several genera. An older name for gulls is mews, which is cognate with German Möwe, Danish måge, Swedish mås, Dutch meeuw, Norwegian måke/måse and French mouette, and can still be found in certain regional dialects.

Gulls are typically medium to large in size, usually grey or white, often with black markings on the head or wings. They typically have harsh wailing or squawking calls; stout, longish bills; and webbed feet. Most gulls are ground-nesting carnivores which take live food or scavenge opportunistically, particularly the Larus species. Live food often includes crustaceans, molluscs, fish and small birds. Gulls have unhinging jaws which allow them to consume large prey. Gulls are typically coastal or inland species, rarely venturing far out to sea, except for the kittiwakes. The large species take up to four years to attain full adult plumage, but two years is typical for small gulls. Large white-headed gulls are typically long-lived birds, with a maximum age of 49 years recorded for the herring gull.

Gulls nest in large, densely packed, noisy colonies. They lay two or three speckled eggs in nests composed of vegetation. The young are precocial, born with dark mottled down and mobile upon hatching. Gulls are resourceful, inquisitive, and intelligent, the larger species in particular, demonstrating complex methods of communication and a highly developed social structure. For example, many gull colonies display mobbing behavior, attacking and harassing predators and other intruders. Certain species have exhibited tool-use behavior, such as the herring gull, using pieces of bread as bait with which to catch goldfish, for example. Many species of gulls have learned to coexist successfully with humans and have thrived in human habitats. Others rely on kleptoparasitism to get their food. Gulls have been observed preying on live whales, landing on the whale as it surfaces to peck out pieces of flesh.

Here is a rare capture of a wild yellow Wi Fi in full breeding plumage. This Yellow Wi Fi was grazing in an alleyway in mid-town Sacramento. I had to be careful not startle it for fear of it becoming unhinged. This particular species uses CCTV as a defense mechanism. You can see signs of this on closer examination. This is an endangered species and has been tagged by CAS to monitor its migration patterns and a way to document suspected foul play.

i remember how blue the sky was as i drove to work that morning.

i remember hearing a colleague say, "a plane flew into the world trade center." we thought he was kidding.

i remember running upstairs to the office cafeteria, where the television was. aaron brown was mid-sentence when the first tower fell; some asshole laughed and said, "yo, did you SEE that?!?" no one laughed with him.

i remember going back to my cubicle, unhinged, numb. the news sites wouldn't load, but we kept hitting refresh anyway. i finally pulled up an image from msnbc, pixels of exploding fire. people gathered round to look. one woman came up behind me, threw her arms around me, and said it was the apocalypse.

i remember racing home early from work, listening to joan baez singing "amazing grace" on the radio. i had to pull over, i was crying so hard.

i remember army trucks heading south as i headed north. and like the cars in front of and behind me, i rolled down my window and waved. the soldiers waved back.

i remember frantically calling my husband, at a school further south, to make sure he was okay. calling my uncle, on the upper west side, to make sure he was okay. calling my aunt, downtown -- where she, her husband, and their eight-year old son lived, a block away from ground zero. they were all okay, but their son saw everything. everything.

i remember watching peter jennings that night, and as the wind changed, the smell of the disaster wafted into our living room. that smell...

i remember how my stepmother was beside herself -- she hadn't heard from her cousin paul, a new york city firefighter. she never did. he wasn't supposed to work that day, but like so many others, he responded to the call.

i remember calling all of my friends the next day, to check in – including my old friend pete, in dublin; i knew that his brother matt worked downtown. but he hadn't heard from him either. and he never did.

i remember being filled with such immeasurable sadness, i didn't think my heart could contain it.

i remember donating florian's old hiking boots for the rescue workers, whose boot soles kept melting.

i remember the harrowing wail of the bagpipes at paul's funeral.

i remember jon stewart saying, "the view from my apartment was the world trade center…but you know what the view is now? it's the statue of liberty. and you can’t beat that." then, for the show's moment of zen, he brought out a puppy -- balm for a city’s soul.

i remember the fleeting sense of unity we felt; it didn't matter if you were left wing or right, democrat or republican. everyone felt… related. until bush blew it.

i remember when the next issue of the new yorker arrived, with art spiegelman's cover. it was so dark, so subtle, it took me a minute to see it, to get it. and then i lost it, careful not to drip tears on the cover. (i still have it.)

i remember the memorial service here in cold spring, down at the waterfront. as we bowed our heads in silent prayer, a flock of geese burst forth from the riverbank in a cacophony of squawking, irrepressible life.

i remember thinking, i hope people remember.

This little barn is nearby in Clark Co. Missouri. The lightning rod stand looks a little zapped. Texture thanks to Darkwood 67 !!

It's doors are unhinged,

The foundation is crumbling.

It's floors are straw,

And the roof needs mending.

It just keeps on standing,

patched with pieces of tin.

It has many more years,

It just won't give in.

But this old barn,

still stands silent and tall.

It's character will last,

Till the last board falls!

When Cat asked me to play a latinx set with her on the third Bad Bitches Only it was too tempting to say no (I mean have you seen her?), so here we have it!

Sunday Evening Post, No.36.2: The Unhinged

Project: Utata Thursday Walk #613

It was an overcast and cool day with temperatures only getting as high as 8c - that's about 10c degrees colder than norms for this area. For someone accustomed to much colder temperatures I found it to be pleasant. The locals were hiding inside for the most part though.

I liked how Densmore looked almost at my camera as he reminisced with Stephen Perkins about his days with The Doors. The book is titled "The Doors Unhinged: Jim Morrison's Legacy Goes on Trial."

Densmore and Perkins are both accomplished rock drummers. Densmore was drummer for The Doors, and Perkins is the drummer for Jane's Addiction. Stephen Perkins was born in 1967, the same year "The Doors" was released in record stores. Perkins had to brag about that, as if there was some sort of significance to it, and perhaps there is. And even if there really isn't Perkins is still a big Doors fan and could ask the right questions to Densmore and get him going with some pretty good stories about his time with The Doors.
