Poor households still comprise the majority of the Indian population, where barter transactions are practiced even in these modern times, and manual labour still forms the main source of earning for many a family despite widespread industrial and economic
advancement. The man on the bicycle, and the subject of the picture, who stands representative of the majority of the Indian population, is seen here going to sell fish in the market, while the recently acquired air-conditioned bus (in red) at the back represents
industrial and economic advancement. The abilities of the human machine are much respected over that of any other here even now. Image taken with Canon Powershot A1100 IS.
The Buffer tool, a geoprocessing tool in the Analysis toolbox in ArcToolbox, generates buffer polygons, or offsets, around input features at a specified distance. Buffers show the area that is within some distance of the input features. The tool is popular because the concept of buffering is easy to understand and buffering plays an important role in many geoprocessing workflows involving proximity or distance analysis (i.e., How far away are these things? or What features are within a distance of other features?). Because the Buffer tool is important in performing proximity tasks, a key goal for developers working on this tool has been to ensure that buffers accurately depict distances around features. More resources are now available to help communities better prepare for emergencies and keep people safer from the risks associated with natural hazards and a changing climate.
Climate-related emergencies are becoming more frequent, and managing and reducing these risks is crucial to better protect people and communities throughout B.C.
Two new resources, the British Columbia Disaster and Climate Risk and Resilience Assessment (DCRRA), and the B.C. Hazard Insights Tool (HIT), provide provincewide information and data to help experts better understand how different hazard scenarios could affect people and communities.
These resources give local governments, First Nations, emergency-management specialists and provincial ministries access to risk information that can help them make better decisions in disaster preparedness and mitigation.
