Beauty, compassion, understanding and love are my weapons of choice in this World Anti-war I. I feel that they are very powerful. And on the both sides of this war (of course you know that there, in Russia, at the other side of the war, a lot of people are fighting against war, as they could) my heart is with peaceful people. Even at the battlefields Ukrainians are fighting to banish and to take down the war.
They hate the war. They are fighting for peace. And so am I.
Understanding my roll.
When our first grandchild was born, my sonās family was stationed at NAS Pax River Maryland. We made the drive from Indiana to Maryland as often as possible and they the reverse. August was a beautiful baby boy who looked and acted like every other babyā¦like a little humanoid who had lots of intake and the smelliest of outgo. When it comes to babiesā¦until they are old enough and can be responsible for their own head and neck, well letās just say that holding one makes me as nervous as being wrapped up like a mummy utilizing live Boa constrictors! Scratch that as it is an exaggerationā¦I would prefer the boaās!
I do not remember his exact age but I would guess it was around a year and a half old and they were in town for a visit. It was a beautiful spring/summer day and August and I were walking around the front yard, just exploring and enjoying time together. As we walked hand in hand, we came upon a bush. I have no idea what type of bush it was, even though it was part of our landscaping. It was both yellow and green, the type that looked a bit sharp but wasnāt.
We stopped and were looking at the bush when August without a word spoken looked up into my eyes. Instantly I knew his question and I said āYou can touch it.ā He gently reached out and started feeling the texture of a single branch, and smiled. It was at that exact moment, as if hit by lightning, that I felt like a grandfather for the first timeā¦accepting responsibility for one of my roles in his life, to assist with discovery.
Fast forward seven years and I am at Custer SP photographing bison when I notice this little one. Its nose was inches from the ground and a few feet away from a lone blue flower. It moved from side to side, eyed fixed on the flower as if it was wondering what it wasā¦a bit curious, a bit hesitant. A few seconds passed before it worked up the courage to approach the flower. When it bowed down to ascertain its fragrance, I took this photo.
Watching this bison reminded me of the thrill, the absolute blessing of discoveryā¦making this shot a personal favorite from this trip!

The base of this work is my very first Save the Family painting, a triptych painted about my own family, including my six children. My first son, third child, Brian, was born and only lived in this world for a little over an hour, and yet he is and always will be a member of my family. He is on the left-hand side, faintly, outside the hearts, indicating he left this world. On the right-hand side is my other son, SƩan, who was in a coma for 4 days with Meningitis, thankfully, he survived. At the back are Gerry and I, and in front of us in the middle are our girls, in order: Kristina, Michelle, Karen, and Diana. If you look closely, we are all there, not in reality but in the abstract. Having been blessed with a big and close family made bigger through our grandchildren, needless to say, family is the most important subject of my work.

This image is of a logging road near the town of Fernie, British Columbia, Canada.
I post his image as a homage to the power and majesty of raw nature. As I hiked this road, I was surrounded by old forest, some red cedars hundreds of years old. I carried bear spray, understanding to whom this land really belongs.
I felt alone and not. Being immersed in nature allowed me to "live in the moment." Worries and negative thoughts were banished. Peace and hope prevailed.
Sorry Suki again, but its either that or another pix from the past as I'm stuck indoors, and even the garden is out of bounds :-)

Dynamic Earth is a top visitor attraction in Edinburgh offering a broad understanding of the processes that shape the Earth. The centre opened in 1999 on a site of a former brewery. It incorporates a portion of the southerly wall and a turret of the old town. The regeneration project brought about much subsequent urban rejuvenation and the area offers ample interest with Holyrood Palace, the Scottish Parliament and a short walk up Arthurās Seat, the cityās largest hill.
Dynamic Earth not only offers indoor excitement but outdoor educational value too. In the amphitheatre, directly in front of the building, sits a collection of Scotlandās most important rocks. Arranged in time order on the western half while the eastern portion describes the individual terranes that make up Scotland.

Not the brand or technique is important in photographic art, but the understanding of the things behind the photographed subjects, the emotion, the composition, the joy or the sadness, the life itself that is mysteriously coming unrepeatable as a gift.

pejorativ ...
;-) ...
English
pejorative ...
The French term was introduced into German by Schiller in 1797. For Johann Wolfgang Goethe, aperƧu then means a
āsynthesis of world and spiritā,
as it is realized in contemplation.
In the context of Goethe's idiosyncratic theory of knowledge, it is a central concept:
āEverything comes down to an aperƧu. It is the highest that man can achieve, and that is as far as he can go.ā
Such an aperƧu provides the intuitive-inductive recognition of a 'schema' that is informative for the understanding of a multitude of individual phenomena.
Since then, however, the term has undergone a noticeable deterioration in meaning, so that today one can also speak pejoratively of a āmereā aperƧu - in the sense of a brilliantly, for example paradoxically formulated assertion, but one that is unsound insofar as it lacks evidence and proof.
It's like faith (the belief). It's a small series. I show the light, but not the light source ...

30th day of confinement in the reduced space of my apartment (70 M2 and a small balcony of 8 M2) located on the fifth floor, as much to tell you that to make images of wild fauna it is very limited, I will not m 'invent a garden that I do not have nor tell you that I have a dog that has a prostate which would suit me well to take it out X times each day, no none of that, so I wait, the hardest it's not to stay locked up but to set foot outside with all the risks that this entails, since the first day of this damn necessary confinement I only went out twice to go to the drive 800 meters from home I tried to send my faithful partner with his shopping cart to my place, but he only brings me nuts, so it is better to stay temporarily between four walls rather than permanently between four boards ...... A meditate for those who still have doubts about the effi cacity of this confinement, personally I will remain locked up the time it will take not only for my health but also in support of the medical personnel and all those who continue to work by being exposed every day.
PS: any request to share with a group will be rejected immediately, I do not want any publicity on my work (I have largely passed the age of receiving Oscars, Good Points and other nonsense of this kind .... ) , thank you for your understanding .
Thereās something quietly beautiful about companionshipāthe kind that doesnāt need grand gestures or elaborate plans, just the simple presence of another soul. Whether it's sitting side by side in comfortable silence, sharing a laugh over an inside joke, or swapping stories deep into the night, thereās a warmth in knowing someone is there with you, without expectation or demand.
Companionship can be found in the everydayāwatching the world go by together, listening to music or watching a movie with someone, or simply existing in each otherās space. Itās the ease of unspoken understanding, the familiarity of a well-worn bond, and the reassurance that even in quiet moments, connection is alive.
It doesnāt always need words; sometimes, a shared glance, a hand resting beside yours, or just the awareness of someone being near are enough to remind you that youāre not alone. And that is a gift in itself.

She descended in silence, a wisp of the divine sculpted into flesh. The heavens split behind her, spilling gold across the storm-ridden sky. Her radiance was moonlight upon the crest of a wave.
Her wings were a cathedral of white feathers, each bearing the weight of untold sorrows and whispered prayers. She was not merely beauty. She was purpose incarnate. A sentinel between the mortal and the eternal.
Her gaze held no judgment, only understanding. She did not come to strike down nor to redeem. She was the quiet before the reckoning, the pause before the truth.
As the clouds swirled around her and the earth trembled beneath her feet, the world held its breath, waiting for the words she would speak, the message she would bear.
For an angel does not come without reason.
And this one had come to change everything.
Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have.
Make the Now the primary focus of your life.

Pukuās feathers are soft and delicate with the humble browns and grays youād find in Oak Tree bark. We were tempted to ask if we could touch her. The little Western Screech Owl appeared to invite tactile contact from humans. We were told that in the past, she was petted, and her head area rubbed but some of her feathers were rubbed off, ā¦loved off, because of the oil present on our fingers. Puku had developed a little bald patch which has since resolved. So, no more petting for this avian gal.
Puku has cloudy eyes. She had contracted a virus when a youngster that would have blinded her completely if it were not for veterinary intervention. She has 25% vision in her right but was totally blind in her left eye.
Puku is one of seven birds of prey that serve as education ambassadors. All were rescued and rehabilitated and, due to permanent disabilities, can no longer survive in the wild. EITS is the only licensed raptor education program in Santa Barbara County. The birdsā live presence and their unique stories of survival educate about impacts of human activities, good and bad, and foster respect and understanding for wild species and their habitats.
Eyes in the Sky (EITS) has been Santa Barbara Audubon Societyās key wildlife education program since 2000.
These last two shots really had to be in monochrome. I did think about reducing the saturation levels so the barest colour appeared, but in the end I went for classic black and white. I wonder sometimes if some people today struggle with understanding what black and white photography is about. We live in a world of instant simulation, and it takes imagination and effort to "read" a black and white.
Ansel Adams once likened working in colour to be like playing an out of tune piano (Adams was a concert pianist before turning to photography).
'"I can getāfor meāa far greater sense of ācolor' through a well-planned and executed black-and-white image than I have ever achieved with color photography," he wrote in 1967. For Adams, who could translate sunlight's blinding spectrum into binary code perhaps more acutely than anyone before or since, there was an "infinite scale of values" in monochrome. Color was mere reality, the lumpy world given for everyone to look at, before artists began the difficult and honorable job of trying to perfect it in shades of gray.' www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/ansel-adams-in-color-...
I like that description. Mind you I recently purchased "Ansel Adams in Color" (Little, Brown and Company, 1993), and although there's not a lot of his colour slides left (most have deteriorated with time), what is in this collection is a real treasure.
