Second Coming of Jesus | "When It Comes to God, What Is Your Understanding"

www.holyspiritspeaks.org/videos/utterance-when-it-comes-t...

Introduction

Almighty God says, "The so-called God is not only the Holy Spirit, that Spirit, the sevenfold intensified Spirit, the all-encompassing Spirit, but also a person, an ordinary person, an exceptionally common person. He is not only male, but also female. They are similar in that They are both born to humans, and dissimilar in that one is conceived by the Holy Spirit and the other is born to a human but derived directly from the Spirit. They are similar in that both incarnate fleshes of God carry out God the Father’s work, and dissimilar in that one does the work of redemption and the other does the work of conquering. Both represent God the Father, but one is the Lord of redemption filled with lovingkindness and mercy, and the other is the God of righteousness filled with wrath and judgment. One is the Supreme Commander to launch the redemption work, and the other is the righteous God to accomplish the work of conquering. One is the Beginning, the other the End. One is sinless flesh, the other is flesh that completes the redemption, continues the work, and is never of sin. Both are the same Spirit, but They dwell in different fleshes and are born in different places. And They are separated by several thousand years. Yet all Their work is mutually complementary, never conflictual, and can be spoken of in the same breath. Both are people, but one is a baby boy and the other is an infant girl."

'Peace through Understanding', the theme of the World's Fair in 1964-1965. And yes, it is still quite appropriate at the current situation here.

The Unisphere is a spherical stainless steel representation of the Earth, located in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in the borough of Queens, New York City. The sphere, which measures 140 feet (43 m) high and 120 feet (37 m) in diameter, was commissioned as part of the 1964 New York World's Fair. The Unisphere is one of the borough's most iconic and enduring symbols.

Commissioned to celebrate the beginning of the space age, the Unisphere was conceived and constructed as the theme symbol of the 1964–1965 New York World's Fair. The theme of the World's Fair was "Peace Through Understanding" and the Unisphere represented the theme of global interdependence. It was dedicated to "Man's Achievements on a Shrinking Globe in an Expanding Universe".

“Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.”

======================================================

The Noble Eightfold Path describes the way to the end of suffering, as it was laid out by Siddhartha Gautama. It is a practical guideline to ethical and mental development with the goal of freeing the individual from attachments and delusions; and it finally leads to understanding the truth about all things. Together with the Four Noble Truths it constitutes the gist of Buddhism. Great emphasis is put on the practical aspect, because it is only through practice that one can attain a higher level of existence and finally reach Nirvana. The eight aspects of the path are not to be understood as a sequence of single steps, instead they are highly interdependent principles that have to be seen in relationship with each other.

1. Right View

Right view is the beginning and the end of the path, it simply means to see and to understand things as they really are and to realise the Four Noble Truths. As such, right view is the cognitive aspect of wisdom. It means to see things through, to grasp the impermanent and imperfect nature of worldly objects and ideas, and to understand the law of karma and karmic conditioning. Right view is not necessarily an intellectual capacity, just as wisdom is not just a matter of intelligence. Instead, right view is attained, sustained, and enhanced through all capacities of mind. It begins with the intuitive insight that all beings are subject to suffering and it ends with complete understanding of the true nature of all things. Since our view of the world forms our thoughts and our actions, right view yields right thoughts and right actions.

2. Right Intention

While right view refers to the cognitive aspect of wisdom, right intention refers to the volitional aspect, i.e. the kind of mental energy that controls our actions. Right intention can be described best as commitment to ethical and mental self-improvement. Buddha distinguishes three types of right intentions: 1. the intention of renunciation, which means resistance to the pull of desire, 2. the intention of good will, meaning resistance to feelings of anger and aversion, and 3. the intention of harmlessness, meaning not to think or act cruelly, violently, or aggressively, and to develop compassion.

3. Right Speech

Right speech is the first principle of ethical conduct in the eightfold path. Ethical conduct is viewed as a guideline to moral discipline, which supports the other principles of the path. This aspect is not self-sufficient, however, essential, because mental purification can only be achieved through the cultivation of ethical conduct. The importance of speech in the context of Buddhist ethics is obvious: words can break or save lives, make enemies or friends, start war or create peace. Buddha explained right speech as follows: 1. to abstain from false speech, especially not to tell deliberate lies and not to speak deceitfully, 2. to abstain from slanderous speech and not to use words maliciously against others, 3. to abstain from harsh words that offend or hurt others, and 4. to abstain from idle chatter that lacks purpose or depth. Positively phrased, this means to tell the truth, to speak friendly, warm, and gently and to talk only when necessary.

4. Right Action

The second ethical principle, right action, involves the body as natural means of expression, as it refers to deeds that involve bodily actions. Unwholesome actions lead to unsound states of mind, while wholesome actions lead to sound states of mind. Again, the principle is explained in terms of abstinence: right action means 1. to abstain from harming sentient beings, especially to abstain from taking life (including suicide) and doing harm intentionally or delinquently, 2. to abstain from taking what is not given, which includes stealing, robbery, fraud, deceitfulness, and dishonesty, and 3. to abstain from sexual misconduct. Positively formulated, right action means to act kindly and compassionately, to be honest, to respect the belongings of others, and to keep sexual relationships harmless to others. Further details regarding the concrete meaning of right action can be found in the Precepts.

5. Right Livelihood

Right livelihood means that one should earn one's living in a righteous way and that wealth should be gained legally and peacefully. The Buddha mentions four specific activities that harm other beings and that one should avoid for this reason: 1. dealing in weapons, 2. dealing in living beings (including raising animals for slaughter as well as slave trade and prostitution), 3. working in meat production and butchery, and 4. selling intoxicants and poisons, such as alcohol and drugs. Furthermore any other occupation that would violate the principles of right speech and right action should be avoided.

6. Right Effort

Right effort can be seen as a prerequisite for the other principles of the path. Without effort, which is in itself an act of will, nothing can be achieved, whereas misguided effort distracts the mind from its task, and confusion will be the consequence. Mental energy is the force behind right effort; it can occur in either wholesome or unwholesome states. The same type of energy that fuels desire, envy, aggression, and violence can on the other side fuel self-discipline, honesty, benevolence, and kindness. Right effort is detailed in four types of endeavours that rank in ascending order of perfection: 1. to prevent the arising of unarisen unwholesome states, 2. to abandon unwholesome states that have already arisen, 3. to arouse wholesome states that have not yet arisen, and 4. to maintain and perfect wholesome states already arisen.

7. Right Mindfulness

Right mindfulness is the controlled and perfected faculty of cognition. It is the mental ability to see things as they are, with clear consciousness. Usually, the cognitive process begins with an impression induced by perception, or by a thought, but then it does not stay with the mere impression. Instead, we almost always conceptualise sense impressions and thoughts immediately. We interpret them and set them in relation to other thoughts and experiences, which naturally go beyond the facticity of the original impression. The mind then posits concepts, joins concepts into constructs, and weaves those constructs into complex interpretative schemes. All this happens only half consciously, and as a result we often see things obscured. Right mindfulness is anchored in clear perception and it penetrates impressions without getting carried away. Right mindfulness enables us to be aware of the process of conceptualisation in a way that we actively observe and control the way our thoughts go. Buddha accounted for this as the four foundations of mindfulness: 1. contemplation of the body, 2. contemplation of feeling (repulsive, attractive, or neutral), 3. contemplation of the state of mind, and 4. contemplation of the phenomena.

8. Right Concentration

The eighth principle of the path, right concentration, refers to the development of a mental force that occurs in natural consciousness, although at a relatively low level of intensity, namely concentration. Concentration in this context is described as one-pointedness of mind, meaning a state where all mental faculties are unified and directed onto one particular object. Right concentration for the purpose of the eightfold path means wholesome concentration, i.e. concentration on wholesome thoughts and actions. The Buddhist method of choice to develop right concentration is through the practice of meditation. The meditating mind focuses on a selected object. It first directs itself onto it, then sustains concentration, and finally intensifies concentration step by step. Through this practice it becomes natural to apply elevated levels of concentration also in everyday situations.

Crassula Campfire (Crassula Capitella) in late afternoon light.

"(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding" is a 1974 song written by English singer/songwriter Nick Lowe. Initially released by Lowe in 1974, the song did not chart. The song was most famously covered by Elvis Costello & the Attractions and released as a B-side to Lowe's 1978 solo single "American Squirm." The cover saw great popularity and was later included on the American version of Costello's 1979 album Armed Forces. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/(What%27s_So_Funny_%27Bout)_Peace,_Love,_and_Understanding

I know all the choices and all the paths that led here

But I still don't understand how

The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope has observed the supernova remnant named 1E 0102.2-7219. Researchers are using Hubble’s imagery of the remnant object to wind back the clock on the expanding remains of this exploded star in the hope of understanding the supernova event that caused it 1700 years ago.

The featured star that exploded long ago belongs to the Small Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy of our Milky Way located roughly 200 000 light-years away. The doomed star left behind an expanding, gaseous corpse — a supernova remnant — known as 1E 0102.2-7219.

Because the gaseous knots in this supernova remnant are moving at different speeds and directions from the supernova explosion, those moving toward Earth are coloured blue in this composition and the ones moving away are shown in red. This new Hubble image shows these ribbons of gas speeding away from the explosion site at an average speed of 3.2 million kilometres per hour. At that speed, you could travel to the Moon and back in 15 minutes.

Researchers have studied the Hubble archive looking for visible-light images of the supernova remnant and they have analysed the data to calculate a more accurate estimate of the age and centre of the supernova blast.

According to their new estimates, light from this blast arrived at Earth 1700 years ago, during the decline of the Roman Empire. This supernova would only have been visible to inhabitants of Earth’s southern hemisphere. Unfortunately, there are no known records of this titanic event. Earlier studies proposed explosion dates of 2000 and 1000 years ago, but this new analysis is believed to be more robust.

To pinpoint when the explosion occurred, researchers studied the tadpole-shaped, oxygen-rich clumps of ejecta flung out by this supernova blast. Ionised oxygen is an excellent tracer because it glows brightest in visible light. By using Hubble’s powerful resolution to identify the 22 fastest moving ejecta clumps, or knots, the researchers determined that these targets were the least likely to have been slowed down by passage through interstellar material. They then traced the knots’ motion backward until the ejecta coalesced at one point, identifying the explosion site. Once that was known, they could calculate how long it took the speedy knots to travel from the explosion centre to their current location.

Hubble also measured the speed of a suspected neutron star — the crushed core of the doomed star — that was ejected from the blast. Based on the researchers’ estimates, it must be moving at more than 3 million kilometres per hour from the centre of the explosion to have arrived at its current position. The suspected neutron star was identified in observations with the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope in Chile, in combination with data from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory.

The peculiar galaxy NGC 3256 dominates this image from the NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope. This Milky Way-sized galaxy lies about 120 million light-years away in the constellation Vela, and is a denizen of the Hydra-Centaurus Supercluster.

NGC 3256 may seem peaceful, a swirl of tightly entwined spiral arms set in a hazy cloud of light, but this image shows the aftermath of an ancient cosmic clash. This distorted galaxy is the wreckage of a head-on collision between two equally massive spiral galaxies which astronomers estimate to have met around 500 million years ago. The tumultuous past of NGC 3256 is captured in the long tendrils of shining dust and stars which extend outwards from the main body of the galaxy. The striking red and orange regions spread across the galaxy contain young stars created in the merger that are irradiating small dust grains, which then emit infrared light that is captured in astonishing detail by Webb’s instruments. Further out, there are extended tidal features, which are mostly stars pulled out of the galaxies when they collided.

If you were asked to picture a galaxy collision, you might picture stars careening into one another with catastrophically explosive results. In reality, the spaces between the stars in a galaxy are vast; when galaxies collide, their clouds of stars pass through one another and mingle like two clouds of smoke. The gas and dust in colliding galaxies does interact, however, and with spectacular results. The galactic collision that created NGC 3256 triggered a luminous burst of star formation that can be seen in the brightest portions of this image. These infant stars shine most brightly at infrared wavelengths, light which can penetrate through obscuring dust in the galaxy, and which makes the stars perfect subjects for Webb.

This observation is one of several which take a detailed look at the physics of star formation and black hole growth in nearby merging galaxies, hoping to transform astronomers' understanding of galactic evolution. Capturing a selection of luminous infrared galaxies like NGC 3256 will help the astronomical community to understand how Webb can unravel the complex histories of nearby star-forming galaxies.

This image contains data from Webb’s Near-InfraRed Camera and Mid-InfraRed Instrument, which — as the names suggest — capture NGC 3256 in stunning detail at infrared wavelengths. Previous observations of NGC 3256 with the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope revealed this cosmic collision at visible wavelengths, and Hubble and Webb observations are shown side-by-side using the slider tool here.

[Image Description: A large, face-on spiral galaxy. The core is radiating very brightly. Streaks of dust glow intensely red, in the centre and across most of the galaxy. This gas is surrounded by a dark grey halo made of the galaxy’s stars. The halo stretches out into a tidal tail at the upper-left, and another at the bottom. Small stars and galaxies surround the spiral galaxy, on a black background.]

I am dedicating this image to all my Flickr friends.

To those of you who know that we have been downsizing our company, thanks for understanding about my lack of consistency in visits to your photostream. And to those of you who wondered why I haven't been around, now you know.

We have had our theatre and props company for nearly 30 years, and my husband and I finally decided that enough was enough. So, we gave away all of my beloved props to a local church. Well, almost all, as I simply couldn't part with a few things like my knights in armor. Today the church will pick up the costumes, too.

It's been a hard run, but it's nearly over. (See the comment image.) By Monday, I will make up for my lack of attention to your images. I promise.

Iin the meantime, will you bear with me just a couple more days?

Please accept my sincerest thanks for your kind visits and comments. I want you to know that I would never take advantage of you.

Besides, I would much rather be playing with my friends on Flickr, and taking pictures than cleaning a stupid warehouse.

Will Monday ever come?

A water-damaged first edition hardcover of Understanding Media, circa 1964.

The 2006 Chandra three-color image (inset) of a region of the supernova remnant Puppis A (wide-angle view from ROSAT in blue) reveals a cloud being torn apart by a shock wave produced in a supernova explosion. This is the first X-ray identification of such a process in an advanced phase. In the inset, the blue vertical bar and the blue fuzzy ball or cap to the right show how the cloud has been spread out into an oval-shaped structure that is almost empty in the center. The Chandra data also provides information on the temperature in and around the cloud, with blue representing higher temperature gas.

The oval structure strongly resembles those seen on much smaller size scales in experimental simulations of the interaction of supernova shock waves with dense interstellar clouds (see sequence of laboratory images). In these experiments, a strong shock wave sweeps over a vaporized copper ball that has a diameter roughly equal to a human hair. The cloud is compressed, and then expands in about 40 nanoseconds to form an oval bar and cap structure much like that seen in Puppis A.

On a cosmic scale, the disruption of l0-light-year-diameter cloud in Puppis A took a few thousand years. Despite the vast difference in scale, the experimental structures and those observed by Chandra are remarkably similar. The similarity gives astrophysicists insight into the interaction of supernova shock waves with interstellar clouds.

Understanding this process is important for answering key questions such as the role supernovas play in heating interstellar gas and triggering the collapse of large interstellar clouds to form new generations of stars.

Listening to the stories of others and putting yourself in their shoes can go such a long way toward greater understanding and being better equipped for whatever lies before you. It is amazing how different a scenario can look when you have a perspective-shift and begin to view the world through the eyes of another.

Late Sunday afternoon I went to Seymour Mountain. On each anniversary of my accident, I try to visit and go for a walk. After just missing sunset at the parking lot I took my headlamp and camera gear for a hike to Dog Mountain. Not much snow but plenty of quiet time to revisit my fall, 7 years ago now.

January 17, 2007

Simon and I went for a snowshoe hike around the east side of Seymour and went up Runner Peak. During the traverse back, about 1/2 hour from the ski runs, I fell. A long way. 600 feet below I ended up at Theta Lake. My backpack & coat ripped from my body, never to be found again. One boot and snowshoe gone. Broken shoulder, missing teeth and a neck fracture. Blood. Disorientated and cold. Though truth be told, I was very lucky to be in such good condition.

Nearly impossible to hike down but Simon makes it halfway regardless. Relieved to hear me alive, he manages to call for help. Somehow within 40 minutes and moments before dark sets in, a helicopter comes in and drops off 2 men. I clearly remember their headlamps coming towards me. I'm pretty sure I was mumbling and yelling, wondering why the helicopter had gone away. One of them told me to shut up. I had just met Tim Jones.

It took about an hour to reach the viewpoint at the end of the trail. Most of the fog below had disappeared so I sat down and decided to wait for a bit. Maybe the colder night air would bring the low cloud cover back. Besides, just sitting there gave me a chance to look up at the stars and check things out in my head.

January 18, 2007

Tim & Gord had wrapped me up within a heated blanket. They kept me alive. I think Tim's outer layer was a garbage bag with arm holes cut in it. How they had kept warm overnight I have no idea. I didn't know it at the time but Tim has been involved in over 1,500 rescues during his time with NSR since 1987. I couldn't have been in better hands.

SAR personnel had mobilized and were sent in to assist. The first group of 5 made it in before the worsening weather and terrible snow conditions forced everyone else to turn back for their own safety. Thank you Jeff, Bruce, Doug, John & Rollie. We were badly in need of help. The snow continued to fall. At one point a loud rumble headed down towards us, stopping within throwing distance. Unable to see what had happened I asked what was that. Tim replied, "Mother Nature". That avalanche forced the group to move base camp. They dug a snow cave and put me inside. I spent the next 14 hours within the hole. There was no getting home today. They all suffered worse than me I'm sure.

After realizing that only a few lingering clouds would make their way back over the city, I took this photo and packed up. No one else was out here. I headed back just before 7pm. When I passed First Lake I was surprised to hear what sounded like people above. Seemed unusual to me. Later along the trail I bumped into 3 paramedics who were on their way to help with a cardiac arrest near Dinky Peak. I gave them a hand carrying some of their heavy gear. I thought about asking if Tim was up here, as I hadn't seen him in a while, but it seemed inappropriate as they were on an emergency call so it never came up. [Tim Jones is an advanced life-support paramedic and paramedic-in-charge for the B.C. Ambulance Service in North Vancouver] On the way, they were told via radio, that another group were bringing the subject down the mountain. So we returned to the parking lot, where I left them and all the other many rescue personnel.

January 19, 2007

There was talk of a insane 10+ hour rope rescue to lift me out of this bowl if the deep clouds continued to prevent an air rescue. But finally a small opening appeared in the afternoon, and a helicopter popped in. They basically tossed me in while it hovered just above the frozen lake. Inside the helicopter and on the way to the hospital, I was laying down on the legs of Curtis Jones, Tim's son.

I simply would not have survived had his father not risked his life to rescue me. Words cannot not express the gratitude my family continues to feel towards him. I don't recall ever hearing Tim or any of the others complaining, even though none of them could have been comfortable. These volunteers are heroes in my books.

After giving a Mexican hitchhiker a ride down the mountain I received a shocking text telling me who had died on Seymour that night. The facts all tumbled into place. Tears began to fall. And the local outdoor community was devastated. Tim Jones had passed away from a heart attack.

Tim had an amazing spirit and strength. Determined and passionate. He was a larger-than-life leader of North Shore Rescue. I know he will be missed deeply by his team, friends & co-workers.

My deepest condolences to his family. I can't imagine the grief you must be feeling right now.

In the serene embrace of Raven Hollow, nestled amidst the majestic grandeur of the Rocky Mountains, registered Campion mare #0050, Aetheriel Moonmaiden, affectionately known by her caretakers as Selûne, found herself embarking on a new chapter of her journey. Having already been gently introduced to the nuances of human interaction and the rudiments of saddle training by her former caretaker, Selûne's transition into her new abode was marked by a seamless fusion of familiarity and novelty.

Amidst the tranquil ambiance of Raven Hollow, where the Ravens croaked of ancient secrets and the gentle rustle of leaves provided a soothing backdrop, Selûne gracefully integrated herself into the tapestry of equine companionship. Here, amidst the company of kindred spirits, she found solace and camaraderie, her past experiences serving as a solid foundation upon which to build new bonds.

As she roamed the verdant meadows alongside her newfound companions, Selûne reveled in the sense of belonging that enveloped her. Each hoofbeat resonated with a quiet sense of purpose, each glance exchanged with her fellow equines spoke volumes of shared experiences and unspoken understanding.

Despite the challenges she had faced in the past, the arduous trials of herd roundup and the uncertainties of change, Selûne embraced her newfound sanctuary with a quiet resilience. Here, amidst the tranquil beauty of Raven Hollow, she found not just a refuge, but a place to call home—a sanctuary where she could rest her weary soul and bask in the warmth of newfound companionship.

And so, as the sun peaked out above the mountains, casting a revitalizing golden hue upon the landscape, Selûne set off amidst the rolling hills of the large grassy turnout, her heart filled with excitement for the beautiful shared space she now found herself in. In the welcoming embrace of Raven Hollow, surrounded by nature and the comforting presence of her fellow equines, she knew that she had found her place in the world—a place where she could thrive, grow, and find solace still in the familiar beauty of the natural world.
