"What's that random citizen? The pit bulls are stuck in the well? With a raccoon?" That is right. These guys chased a raccoon down a dry well and got trapped with it. And it got them pretty good once it was down there (notice the healing scratches on the faces) One of out officers pulled them out (not a easy thing to do) and left something so that the raccoon could get out on it's own. These guys were pretty disgruntled about the whole deal when they came in but have turned out to be sweet, goofy dogs. The smaller of the two has a big underbite and quite a little character. Their owner actually came in to try to get them back after he saw them on the news but was not allowed since he'd been charged with animal cruelty and hadn't taken care of any of his requirements for that and couldn't really provide proof of ownership.
Here is link for an official article of the whole deal as well as a rescue picture:

And woohoo! We finally got our first snow here! As nice as the possibility of not having school tomorrow is, I am really hoping that all the the animals that I saw outside before it started have found their way to a warm place. I wish habitat for humanity could build dog houses....
This is what Gracie's face looks like with her fur cut. She has an underbite, so her little bottom teeth are always showing.
This little bugger has been left for dead too many times to count. He's been shot...twice. Kicked in the face (hence the funny mouth). Almost lost an eye in a fight. Hit by a car. Attacked by a cat.
He's killed before. It was a baby possum, but he took it down like a stone-cold assassin. He's been picked up by the authorities in three different cities (wanted in several others). He's escaped death row at least once.
In spite of this sketchy past, Champy is living a new life in the dog witness relocation plan. He's happy. He's well-fed. New friends. Loving family.
But he's still small. And funny-looking. Please don't stare.

New Orthodontic appliance for his underbite.....I didn't have the heart to take a full picture, even though he said it would be okay.
Last night, on my way to buy a bottle of wine to drink while Bruce and I watched Wayne's World, I stopped to pick some flower pods off a tree for a drawing I'm working on. Today, while working on that drawing, these totally rad furry seeds fell out of it! I can't decide what they look like exactly; a fuzzy comma? A pony with a mane that goes all the way around its head? Some weird crusty california punk with a mohawk, goatee and an underbite? Anyone know what they are?

Female Mountain Bluebird (Sialia curricoides) so named for her unusual underbite! East of Trisk and Triska on Section 4 of Beaver Lake Road in Lake Country, BC.
This handsome guy with the adorable underbite is HAROLD, an approximately one year old Carolina Dog/Cattle Dog mix. He’s a friendly, playful young dog who’s a little unsure of himself, but he loves to chase a ball and play with his toys, and focuses very nicely when food treats are on offer :-) He likes other dogs. Harold is looking for a loving, committed home where he’ll have good guidance and a consistent routine.
Harold lives in Kennel 33.
For more information about Harold, contact doginfo@apsofdurham.org.
This is Heather's new boy, Senna. He's hanging out at our house until after the weekend. Poor little guy is HW+. He's really skinny. Only weighs about 43 lbs. :( He's got really long legs. His ears are CUTE CUTE CUTE, and his underbite is even cuter....if that's possible. lol He doesn't really like to be left alone and was whining and barking behind the baby gate yesterday, but we're working on that. The HW's are making him cough and wheeze occasionally. But for the most part he's doing good. Poor boy just walks around looking totally confused. :( He's met all my boxers and did great with them. :) Oh yeah, and he loves to give kisses.
Heather, he's a sweetie. :)
