I was happy to spot "Zippy" munching on pond vegetation last night. Zippy is a Roman-nosed skewbald with a notable underbite. I've been documenting her life since I started visiting the refuge a couple of years ago. She was a mature doe then, so she must be five or six years old. She had two fawns again this year, though I only saw one of them last night.

By the way....HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOOTS!!!! She turned 3 years old this month somtime (we only know that her birthday is sometime in April but...YA!!)
A nice profile shot showing his curled tail, stiff legs (his skin over his ribs is taut, too), the curled ears, underbite, and curved neck. When he walks he sort of bobs and reminds me of Eyore when he really gets going. We like to say that Jake doesn't know he's special.

I met up with Jen and her crew and Brittany and her crew, so we had quite a few doggy friends overlapping for a little while. Good times.
Hi everyone! My name is Marjorie! Don't let the serious face fool you, I am a happy girl with a friendly, loving personality. I am an absolute delight and a couch potato in the making. I am about 4 years old and I weigh 45 lbs. I love taking walks and playing in the yard. When playtime is over, I am perfectly content to lounge and spend time with my people. I love being petted and scratched. I have the best underbite - so much personality that I make people smile all the time. When it's time for cuddles, I will lean in and melt into you for affection and a well-deserved belly rub. I just love to love. I also like to roll in the grass, meet new humans and wag my tail so hard that it hits me in the belly. I like treats a lot - any kind, any time, any place. I will sit on command like a good girl. I will chase a ball, tag it with my nose, then it's your job to go get it; afterall, you're the one who threw it. I walk pretty well on a leash -- I have places to go and friends to meet. I am very interested in playing with other dogs. I haven't met a "cat" yet, but if you have cats, I know a couple hoomans that would temperament test me. Come on people, help a girl out and get me a home! Please and thank you, because I am polite as can be. Please give me a chance to become part of your family! Adoption fee: $75. Adopt a pair: $115. Fee includes testing, deworming, vaccinations, spay/neuter, 60 days of free pet insurance and microchip. Apply online at www.pawsforliferescue.org

The power chain has made a very noticable difference in 4 weeks. Gaps are closing and underbite is more apparent.
We call this face, a derp face. Derp refers to when one says "derp", and therefore makes the strangest face ever. Dogs cannot say derp, but they make the same face. The underbite on this pug is what gives the dog an actual expression, or personality. The smile gives it identity. Sometimes we all need to smile, even if we do make a derp face. It will show who we actually are.

Underbite...
He has an underbite...
He will stand up and fight...
For those with underbites...
Yes, our dog has his own superhero theme song.
[Clarification: His name is not actually Underbite...it's Butters...Underbite is one of his many nicknames, which include Butterball, Buttery Ball of Goodness, Turkey (derived from Butterball, which is a Turkey brand), Buttery Bowl of Giblets (another turkey derivative), Cheese (because his underbite means he's smiling even when he's not trying) and Thief (because he is one).

The vet said they could perform surgery to fix the underbite and crooked teeth, but as long as it doesn't impede his eating (which I assure you it doesn't), it's unnecessary. I think it's rather endearing.

poor bastard is in serious need of orthodontic assistance. barring that, a firm grip and some tin snips'd probably work.
Here is a picture of my dog, Chewy. I really like this picture because of the smaller things in it, like the slight focus in on him all the way to his underbite. Something I don't like in this photo is how his ear is positioned, as he likes to shake his head a lot. Something I would change about the picture would be to try and brush his hair a little better, as he looks a little scruffy. Overall, I am very pleased with the picture.
