Vietnam Memorial Wall travels to Stillwater Oklahoma

Two great flat tops sit side by side and await their fate at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. I think both are slated to be sunk as artificial reefs. The Forrestal suffered a tragic fire while preparing for an air strike into North Viet Nam in July of 1967. She lost 134 sailors that day.

Attached are links for both carriers.

An illustration for the day. A salute to those who serve and served and pay the highest costs of war.

I wanted them all to be be exhausted, filthy, unshaven to more accurately represent what warfare really means. I decided on no faces because I didn't want any sanitization or glorification of the experiences these people have witnessed. Some will never be free of the experience and some will never return to enjoy the society they fought to protect. It is for this reason I portrayed a wide cross section of the people from America's conflicts. These are the front faces but in reality include the people in all the service branches and conflicts. To all we owe more gratitude than could ever be repaid.

My memorial day wish is that someday we will not need to send anyone into harm.
