I took a one-time, two-hour class today to learn to play the ukulele. I’m holding the instrument I picked up in Okinawa, but we purchased, and learned on, another ukulele in class. In fact, the ukulele we learned on looks so different from this instrument, that I’m starting to wonder if it is a ukulele at all.
Or should I have entitled it "UAS" for Ukulele Acquisition Syndrome? I've only had my beautiful Luna Honu soprano ukulele a week and I'm already thinking about my next uke! Ink & watercolor in Strathmore VJ MM.

School. Bleh. I miss summer.
1920s banjo ukulele
made by Gibson;
model UB-1.
UPDATE:
John Croft (www.ukuleleman.com)
suggested that this uke dates from
1925 to early 1926 based on the
black nut and black tuner buttons;
the components were cream colored
on subsequent instruments.
The headstock script stencil
reads "The Gibson". The
head is skin. I'm not sure if the
tailpiece or bridge is original;
the bridge is by Grover.
I removed the flat resonator
[held by four screws] for
this picture.
A solid lacewood Kala travel ukulele, showings its suitability for travel. But not really convincing in terms of ability to operate a scooter.
