This female is showing her best side in the morning sun.

There are a pair of muscovy ducks in a nearby marsh. I was sitting on a bench at the side of the marsh when I heard some people exclaiming over one of them, trying to figure out what it could be. Goose? Duck? They asked me if I knew. I knew, but didn't know much about them so I had a look on Wikipedia.. Muscovy ducks are native to Mexico and Central and South America. Their population extends into Texas but there are also feral populations throughout the U.S. Although it's a tropical bird, muscovys can adapt to temperatures as low as minus 12 degrees Celcius (10 degrees Farenheit) and below without ill effects.

All I know for sure is that they can bend water with their very presence.

Happy Feathery Friday!

The Muscovy duck is not only the largest duck in North America but is one of the oldest fowl species in the world. I read that on the internet so it must be true.

Parental love knows no boundaries!

Cutest little gosling had imprinted to a "wrong" family and is showing no interest in the many goose families in the area. It is beautiful how the Sandhills are caring for and protecting this baby though. The Sandhill pair has no colts of their own.

This is definitely something not usually seen. Nobody knows how this happened, we only have unproven theories. Unfortunately, the viability of this tiny gosling is pretty slim.

Hi to all, first post in quite some time from me. I'm sure i've missed some great work while i've been away and will hopefully find the time to catch up with some of it.

This image rounds up a short series of shots of a local office block. Not a special building but I do like looking for images in some less obvious places.

i've not taken any new shots in several months, but it might be a chance to process those images patiently hanging round waiting for some attention.

We are in the Biesbosch again! I just love being here. The area is absolutely unique and although for some it perhaps looks rather plain at first sight, there are surprises around every corner for those who want - or rather would like - to see. We've been here 3 days now and had the most gorgeous weather. Early in the morning and evenings, I'm free to go out in the little rubber boat and shoot myself silly. :-)

Most of the waterbirds have chicks in the Biesbosch. So do the Coots! I've been spending quite some time with both Swan chicks and Coot chicks, and believe me, Mr. Andersen had it wrong in his fairy tale: if anyone deserves the title "Ugly Duckling" the Coots take away the prize anytime! :-)

Hard to believe that this "ugly duckling" will turn into one of the most beautiful of all the ducks.

Thank you, my kind Flickr friends, for visiting my site and taking the time to leave a comment. Truly appreciated!
