VMFA (AW) 225 is forward deployed to MCAS Iwakuni on a six month rotation with the Unit Deployment Program to improve operational capabilities through training in the Pacific region. U.S. Air Force Airmen and Space Force Guardians basic military graduation and coining ceremony is held June 24, 2021, for the 331st Training Squadron at the Pfingston Reception Center on Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. SHIZUOKA, Japan (Nov. 4, 2016) - Marines patrol the roads after the ground assault portion of a long-range raid from Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa to the Combined Arms Training Center, Camp Fuji uring Blue Chromite 2017. The Marines honed their ability to project forces from afar by executing a long-range raid over 1,000 miles via MV-22B Osprey to include an aerial refueling by KC-130J Super Hercules. Blue Chromite is a U.S.-only exercise which strengthens the Navy-Marine Corps expeditionary, amphibious rapid-response capabilities based in Okinawa and the greater Indo-Asia-Pacific region. The Marines are with Company I, 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment which is forward deployed from Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, to 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, based in Okinawa, Japan. On May 24, 1941 the German Kriegsmarine launched U-505, a type IXC submarine, also known as a U-boat. During her three years of operation, U-505 was responsible for the sinking of seven vessels with a total of 44,962 gross register tonnage lost over the course of twelve patrols. U-505 was captured on June 4, 1944 by Allied Task Group 22.3 commanded by Captain Daniel V. Gallery, making U-505 one of only 6 U-boats to be captured during World War II.
After the war U-505 would go on to become a museum ship at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, Illinois where she remains today.
