Two years ago I met up with some wonderful fellow photographers who all call themselves the Lone Pine Gang, and in Late April it is my sincere hope to meet up with them again.
I had never been to the Alabama Hills before, and had no idea of how to shoot them. Lucky I had three days there, and figured out a thing or two during that time.

A three shot composite captured from the platform on the lake with a 600 mm lens, so there's plenty of detail in this image..
Not just two beauties together, but I meant - 2 photos from a single shot: a close 'zoom-in', and a 'wideangle' - both from the long-ish 55mm end of the kit zoom. Even the 'wideangle' is cropped, 55mm is actually wider (see SooC) but I gave it some spherical distortion for that 'wide' look. As usual, I experimented with different corrections and processing for each one. What do you think?
Seen at Van Nuys California in April 1992, ex Delta Boeing 727-232 N727OB of Orca Bay Aviation in company with former United Airlines Aerospatiale/SUD Aviation Caravelle 6R N98KT, delivered to UA in 1961 as N1017U unfortunately broken up here in 2010. The cockpit section of the 727 survives as a exhibit at Boeing Paine Field Washington State.
The 2 on the left are young bachelors and came into the herd of the stallion on the right! The stallion in the middle is the lieutenant or guard of the herd! It is his job to keep other males away from the herd!

A last minute decision to head to West Woods this weekend rather than next was well worth the effort. This spot seemed to be the most densely carpeted in most of the woods, which was found by complete luck really.
I got the usual long shadow/sunrise shot that seems to be the most pleasing visually but I wanted to get something a bit different to that.
I couldn't manage another early start to get there today so, weather permitting, Mitcheldever may happen next weekend.

Fuji GA645i, Fujinon Super-EBC 60mm f4, B+W MRC CPL, Tiffen 0.6 GND, Fujifilm Velvia 50 self-developed in Fuji Hunt Chrome 6X (6-bath) kit, IT8-calibrated & wet-mounted drumscan (scanned through PhotoMultiplier Tubes - PMTs - no CCD nor CMOS used in the light detection process).
Two trains at Silverton awaiting departure. Engine 493 is awaiting its 2:45PM departure time with 12 cars while 480 is awaiting its 3:15PM departure with 8 cars. This two track loading area is an interesting study in track utilization as trains arrive, must back up to access the wye to turn around, and pull back into the loading area for departure. On this day, there were 3 trains, with all of them at Silverton at the same time. There is a small yard here, mostly with freight equipment in various levels of repair between the loading area and the wye.
