post-industrial city backyard romanticism... - this one wants to be viewed large. :)

I really like how this turned out

This table lighter belonged to my grandmothers parents and were in good use in their home 40 years ago. After a little handy tweaking it still works perfect.

Kingdom: Plantae

(unranked): Angiosperms

(unranked): Eudicots

(unranked): Rosids

Order: Brassicales

Family: Tropaeolaceae

Genus: Tropaeolum

Nasturtium (literally "nose-twister" or "nose-tweaker"), as a common name, refers to a genus of roughly 80 species of annual and perennial herbaceous flowering plants in the genus Tropaeolum ("Trophy"), one of three genera in the family Tropaeolaceae. It should not be confused with the Watercresses of the genus Nasturtium, of the Mustard family. This genus, native to South and Central America, includes several very popular garden plants, the most commonly grown being T. majus, T. peregrinum and T. speciosum. The hardiest species is T. polyphyllum from Chile, the perennial roots of which can survive underground when air temperatures drop as low as -15°C (5°F).

They have showy, often intensely bright flowers (the intense color can make macrophotography quite difficult), and rounded, peltate (shield-shaped) leaves with the petiole in the center. The flowers have five petals (sometimes more), a three-carpelled ovary, and a funnel-shaped nectar tube in the back.

Tropaeolum species are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including Dot Moth and Garden Carpet. A very common "pest" found on Nasturtium in particular is the caterpillar of the Large White (Cabbage White) Butterfly.

The Nasturtiums receive their name from the fact that they produce an oil that is similar to that produced by Watercress (Nasturtium officinale), from the family Brassicaceae.

Tweaks and baubles.

Pardon the whorish pose. I was finally in the mood to read when I got distracted with the lamp. I thought the lighting was lovely that I decided to stop what I was doing and (what else?) pose! HE HE

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I changed the formula a bit and tweaked the color and lighting settings a good deal. Mot a totally new fractal, just a light tweak, but I do like the results. Thank you, Garth, for sharing the parameters.

Some small tweaks to the Aero Nomad, mainly on the basket section and engine.

A young Red-necked Grebe giving a playful beak tweak to the adult.

Not a huge tweak today, but my "official" Alfred. None of the extra pieces that get a bit cumbersome, and a full head of hair.

Tomorrow: a purist custom I've not yet shown off!

A couple of days ago, on June 28th, I heard my wife call from the garden and I could tell from the tone of her voice that it was something that would interst me.

She turned out to be standing next to the water barrel where she had discovered somthing trying to swim.

This little something turned out to be this rust pine borer (Arhopalus rusticus). "Little" is actaully a bit of a misnomer - this is a species which is about 25 mm / 1" in length. I put down my finger next to it and it climbed on immediately.

But where to photograph it? My choice became the inflorescence on the purple angelica (Angelilca gigas) which was growing around the front of the house so I put it on one of those.

Now, the colour of the inflorescence here is pretty much what it looks like, but this took some quite heavy tweaking of the colours - straight out of the camera it is much brighter and more red (here is an old shot where I didn't fix the colour: www.flickr.com/photos/tinyturtle/53569765545/).

There is actually a small chance that this could be the very similar burnt pine longhorn beetle (Arhopalus ferus), but that one is much much rarer thouh it has still been found in my region. The way to tell the difference is to look at the rearmost feet, but I had no idea to look there and none of the shots I took show those feet. It is probably A. rusticus though.

Things are very dialed in right now! Shure m91ed cart in the dual cs5000, shure m65 preamp with 1963 vintage telefunken 12ax7s, into the phase linear 2000 (glorified volume control) into the AMC CVT2030 (class a el34s) driving the mirage frx7s.

More Nathan picspam. I had a little mess with the shading on his face this evening, and took this picture of him looking all brooding and matinee-idol-y.

I'm starting to think that making my own 1:6 heads might not be *that* hard, so I might have a crack at Sully, Nate's partner-in-crime/adoptive father of sorts. Or maybe a version of Nate c. Uncharted 4; the graphics for that game (out in March 2016) look AHMAZING. Google it if you haven't already; they've made them look like real people.

I got the amazing FeverNB and Grunt² was kind enough to share his tweaked version with me. So I changed some values of the original ENB to make it more desaturated, added a letterbox (inspired by Unreal Cinema ENB) and a film grain (from Stakado Cinemascope ENB). I'm really loving the results! Huge thanks to Midhras, Grunt², Unreal Warfare and Stakado! ^_^

Always tweaking I guess. Like my Nomad but wasn't quite making the connection. This guy is a bit more me.

Since I have been having alllllllll the difficulty ever with my Jem repaint, I took a break to give my Erins some teeth. Interestingly, I think that this sculpt actually is MUCH closer to her previous sculpt than people realise! It's all about the facial screening. I didn't reference my Chrome Noir Erin while I was painting, and afterwards realised I'd painted very differently than her factory screening.

Tweaking. This image isn't really a photo from Rowena Crest east of Portland, Oregon... it's actually three shots. I used my 24mm tilt & shift lens and a very stable tripod to make the three consecutive shots. For the initial shot, I shifted the lens down to include the cluster of Balsamroot flowers. The second shift was to center, and the third was up to pull in the sky. The resulting perspective is far wider than 24mm, without the distortion of a fisheye or ultra-wide lens. I used Lightroom 4 to do the inital toning of the three images, then I opened them in Photoshop CS6 as layers, where I merged them and used masks to blend the edges. I then used luminosity masks to tweak the tones further and then it was back into Lightroom 4 for the final vignette and export. Ta-Da!

Top half of image is AI--bottom is from orig. photo--then all tweaked again in PS using different tools.

Prince was tweaking. Too many drugs. Embarrased.

He had lost his phone and was searching for it. Going block by block. An “Obama phone,” called that because it is given out by Medicaid, and because it is “cheap and black.”

In his cart he was pulling scraps of metal and a bag of two-ply toilet paper. He made an unintended haiku:

“Ten rolls of TP

The most used commodity

Behind milk, eggs, bread”

His pockets were stuffed with drugs and books. Books. Prince loves reading. “I can’t lie, I was incarcerated for many years. I spent the time reading. I love books and words. What do I like? Fictional fantasy books. Authors like David Eddings, Terry Goodkind. Maybe Game of Thrones.”
