It started off as a marigold flower..., was turned into a kaleidescope on Paintshop, and further tweaked on ipiccy.

North American P-51D Mustang #7 "Strega" undergoes some last minute tweaks before racing at the 52nd National Championship Air Races held at Stead Field, Reno, NV, September 16-20, 2015.
First tweaked into a collage on Photoshop, then frsamed and further tweaked using curlicue effect of ipiccy
This shot impressed me. I don't think a conventional camera could have done better.
It also made me think that the GoPro -- which, remember, was intended to be mounted on a helmet and shoot the things that the wearer was looking at -- uses a center-weighted exposure system. The windows here are blown out but the middle of the room is perfectly exposed (which is exactly the right answer).

Pretty much done at this point, but you can see the layers there to the side. If I'd had more time, I would have kept building up some of the shading in the library, etc., but maybe another day...

After riding a slow Estacada yesterday I pulled the 650A K-40 tires, put a hefty boot into the ripped Confrerie, glued it together, then (after waiting for the glue to dry) reshod the bicycle with Confreries. And today I went out to the CCC and spent another $12 on this bicycle (total cost now: $22, exclusive of consumables) buying a 3T Mutant stem (to push the bars out a little further) and a used black steel bottlecage (two waterbottles for riding to Ripplebrook, since the Guard Station might be closed because of the (hopefully now over for a few months) government shutdown.) for taking it on a test brevet.
I may swap the saddle+seatpost with the one that's on the Project Bike, at least for the weekend, so I can ride 125 miles without having my butt explode in annoyance.

I recently bought an ECE bowsaw, and as often the handles were varnished over the not-so-smooth surface left by the machines. I scraped the varnish off both handles, then carved some aesthetic and ergonomic details on the flatsawn one: broke the symmetry in the handle shape, made a hollow curve into the end grain, and added a couple chamfers.
Next is to copy the changes to the other handle, and apply some tung oil. Hopefully the nice quartersawn beech grain will pop nicely…
