Soldiers and Airmen came together to build confidence and proficiency during Hustler Trough III by engaging targets with integrated and synchronized mortars, artillery, infantry and joint fires at the Orogrande range complex. The weeklong exercise began May 23 with a rehearsal of concept drill followed by three days of live-fire.

Doctor Usher was one of the first to be killed in an accident involving a motor car.

Dr Isaac Usher was a popular resident of Dundrum at the beginning of the 20th Century. He did much for the town but unfortunately he was killed in one of the first accidents involving a motor car in Ireland, when a car struck him while reversing near the station in 1917. The residents decided to build a monument to honour him.

The monument was a stone obelisk with a source of water and a trough to provide drinking water for passing horses. There were also brass cups on chains which could be used for drinking by humans. The monument was placed right in the middle of the northern crossroads.

The trough is nearly always full so I'm sure it can stand on it's hind legs to reach the water. It looks like it is shedding the summer coat.

Well a trough anyway . Potter's Barn , Waterloo , Merseyside .

A London escapee - got as far as Sussex.

Commissioned around 1880 by Captain R B Drummond, then Chief of Police for West Sussex, and inscribed (other side) in memory of him and his daughter (Evie). He also commissioned extant troughs in Brighton and Steyning, the latter also being a Metropolitan.

It's a little battered and has almost certainly been moved as it's now on a grass verge in a strangely incongruous position, almost opposite the Capitol theatre and not too far from the Drinking Fountain. This appears to be the 'Granolithic' stonework, a cheaper, less hardwearing material which does not polish like granite. Essentially I think it's a promotional tradename for Concrete. It's rough surface seems to provide a good substrate on which mosses can grow, but as a rule I don't think they make very good flower pots...

The steeply angled shot is courtesy of Electricité de France, who were currently digging up all around it, and leaving barriers and bollards all over the place so this was about the only reasonable angle I could get - though it does at least highlight the cup/chain mounting point - these did supply clean water for humans as well as animals, the 'for humans' water supply tapped in to the little semicircular trough.

I couldn't see any markings to suggest removed bollards, but there was a stain suggesting that an original cradle-type mount had been replaced with this simpler stand, though the small animals 'dog' trough has survived between the new 'feet'.

Take a Sunday trip up north to Shelby, (West) Michigan to plant flowers and visit Lake Michigan.

There are two stone water troughs dating from the C19th. One has a roof and looks like it might be a well. This is circular. Both are surrounded by half millstones. These would have formed part of the village water supply.

Drove around the countryside looking for a nice field, came across this one, walked around the field looking for a shot, then saw this old stone trough, I had to take the picture on tiptoes as I cannot get to close because I am allergic to it. Did you know that it smells like cheese.

Oh dear, snouts in the trough again . . . and again! C'mon southerners, a guy on a government- -sorry - taxpayer-funded Info Servs salary in a fancy car doesn't raise an eyebrow??? In private companies, this immoral dipping into the purse, even when sanctioned a 'legitimate pay increase' means either the company goes broke, workers lose their jobs or costs are passed on to the consumer. In the health care industry, it means patients go without hospital treatment due to cutbacks!

Trough House Bridge, Boot in Eskdale.

The water sculpted granite in this area below the bridge (and exposed over quite a wide area behind me), is wonderful for photographers, and in autumn every nook and cranny is filled with colourful Beech and Oak leaves. The only problem is it's usually in deep shade (as here), or worse, dappled sunlight. I think bright overcast is probably best. (When wet they take on a totally different look, though EXTREME care is then needed as they are SO slippery and the water here very deep!)
