The trip out of Sparks, NV for the westbound MRORVB (Roper Yard, Salt Lake City to Roseville, CA Manifest, Second Section) has not been an easy one. First, the train triggers the high wide detector at Verdi, NV. Second, the train tripped a hotbox detector at Dutch Flat. At least in this scene, just east of Truckee, the journey easy and trouble free for the UP 8207 west.

Of all the hundreds of photos I have posted, this wee little Green Tree Python wins the award for most triggering of intense emotions in its viewers. You seem to either love or hate this one.

In reality, this little snake at the Toronto Zoo is quite harmless, but who am I to tell you your creep-outedness is wrong. I'm not judging... You may notice that I don't take very many shots of spiders.

The leader of the Silencers. A group of assassin's under the rule of Division. He's able to enhance any sense to extreme levels, but it comes at a cost. He loses one of the other senses completely. The other 3 senses stay average. He can switch between them, so he's perfect for many different jobs. Due to this power, he's become one of, if not the best sniper in the world.

Status: Active leader of the Silencers. They were locked up by Peregrine in Capt Solar #4, but were freed sometime between the events of volume 1 and 2.

Rare harmony of two rather assertive reef fish.

The orange-green triggerfish in the background is actually the most aggressive of all the trigger species. Their strong jaws can reduce the hard shells of stony corals to piles of sand, and sea urchins to mush.

The Orange-spine unicorn is a surgeonfish, meaning it has scalpel-like spines (orange colored) on either side of the tail. The fish use their weapons only defensively though, as they are strictly vegetarian. Their mouths are perfectly designed to carefully remove the algae from coral while leaving the coral intact.

More emulsion photography. Several months ago, the Poly Photo club in San Diego put on a workshop that included a presentation by one of our members about how to create emulsion art using whole milk, food coloring and dish washing detergent. I loved seeing the results by our members, and decided to try it. Here's a link to a website that shows exactly how to do it:

tinylanscapes.wordpress.com/2015/10/14/fun-with-milk-food...

Lighting stuff: I used a bare YN560-III, in manual mode, to put some light to to the emulsion. The flash was triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N. I've also posted a picture of the setup that I used, because sometimes people find that to be helpful. Check the first comment down below to see the setup.

More photographs of colorful emulsions (although created differently) are in my pretentiously titled Emulsion Art album.

Westvleteren 12 (XII) - The legendary, close to mythical Trappist from the Sint-Sixtus Abbey of Westvleteren. Global winner of a wide range of titles, prizes and medals, acclaimed by many, desired by the masses.

Their first title of Best Beer In The World, awarded in 2005 by ratebeer.com, triggered and fueled a hype as never witnessed before in the entire history of beer. The street where the abbey is situated could not handle the traffic and was made one-way shortly after winning the Best Beer award.

With the production capacity deliberately kept low and demand being sky-high the only way to get your hands on some you must head to the gates of the Saint Sixtus Abbey in Westvleteren, a 20-minute drive from Ypres, Flanders.

This is after calling in your order by telephone and giving the monks the license plate number of the car with which you plan to pick up your maximum of two crates. Once you’ve gotten your stock of this Belgian-brew-booty, savor it slowly because it will be at least a two-month wait before you can pick up another batch with the same car. All buyers must promise not to sell their hard-earned private supply to third parties – if you’re lucky enough to score a reservation in what the monks dub their ‘beer line’ in the first place, that is. Moral of the story: nothing worth having ever came easy.

This little Gray Triggerfish got pretty pissed about his reflection in my camera. Even took a few bites at my housing knobs. Luckily he didn't try to take any chunks out of me, but I snapped a few shots from the hip and got out of there.

Just a few recent odds and ends posted this afternoon.

This year, I finally got a flu shot again. Must have been something like 15 years ago that I got my first and only shot. It triggered a migraine attack, the first that I had had in quite a few years. I continued to get the occasional migraine for the next few years. This year, though, is an important year to be protected, given the Coronavirus situation. Couldn't believe it when I realized that I was getting migraine yesterday evening, thanks to the flu shot. Reading up about it, I read that the shot can trigger headaches.

Saturday, 7 November 2020; our temperature at 1:49 pm is -1C (windchill -8C). Sunrise is at 7:40 am and sunset is at 4:58 pm. Gloomy, overcast and very windy today. Snowed for about 5 minutes just now. Definitely a day to stay home.

Four of today's photos were taken on 3 November 2020, when I joined a few friends, all wearing masks, for a morning of birding at Carburn Park. This is a park that I don't often visit, though I was there a few days earlier. That was a disappointing walk, as certain birds were nowhere to be seen, by others as well as myself. No bird photos, but several fun Halloween shots in the park.

The walk the other day was a much more rewarding visit, helped a lot by the fact that birding tends to be better in the mornings, as well as more expert eyes to do the searching. Though I had seen Harlequin Ducks at various times in different locations over the years, I hadn't seen one this year. Such a treat to see a little group of five of them. They really are spectacular ducks, with their bold, artistic feather pattern.

We were also so lucky to see a Great Horned Owl. It was spotted flying towards and landing in a very far off tree. Unfortunately, some people were walking right nearby and the owl flew. It was spotted again, far away, giving us a chance to take a photo or two. We did not attempt to walk a little closer, as the owl had already been under enough stress.

After the walk, I decided to drive east and then north of the city for the afternoon. I was already half way there, so it made sense, especially as the weather was good. I had one location in mind, thanks to a friend's ebird posting. I wanted to drive a certain road to find, not a bird, but an old house. This was a new area for me, which was good. The house was right where I thought, but, it looked very different from a photo I had seen on Google. Since that photo was taken, the land owner had removed the wooden planks from the lower half of the building, so it looked more like a skeleton. Not very attractive, really, but I posted a photo the other day.

It felt so good to be driving in beautiful countryside. Much needed. Too many other things to be seen to, including ongoing medical appointments, stress over waiting for biopsy results, and having to replace first my computer keyboard that died and then, this weekend, my printer and mouse. The latter had been driving me nuts the last two or three months. Too, of course, the election going on south of the border : )
