I have no idea why, but I keep trigger clips from dog leads. Whenever a lead wears out or breaks, I carefully cut off the clip and toss it into a little dish along with all the others.

These are fairly small trigger clips and the widest part of the clips showing measures a fraction over 2 inches

Red-tailed hawks typically take off the second they see me, but this one was slow on the trigger and so I got a quick shot as it was lifting its foot to fly.

Fastest hand in the west.

Thanks to Alex and Ari for the PS help.

Went shopping with my lovely fiancé today. Can you guess what I bought?

I met Sean www.flickr.com/photos/dacoach89/ up in Marin right after sunrise a couple weeks back. I was so excited to see the bunkers in morning light and I'm just as excited to see them at sunset. Naturally the wind was howling on this exposed cliff hundreds of feet above the rugged Pacific Coast so please excuse the foreground. The marine layer also makes it difficult to find the horizon line but everything read level.

In the distance you can see Muir Beach's cove, one of the prettiest beaches ever and home to some of the craziest parties in the 60s. It's funny going to a place littered with million dollar homes knowing it was once a location for Dead shows--damn the Bay had to be ridiculous back then. John Muir would have been proud.

Even further you can see Stinson Beach's cove--another spectacular spot before Highway 1 gets nice and lonely--the way I'd love to see all of California, if even for a day. Stinson Beach is also home to the amazing climbing area, Mickey's Beach, top notch beach bouldering--tough to beat!

All in all the best morning I've had with a camera and there's still plenty more to share.

Stylidium

"Pollination is achieved through the use of the sensitive "trigger", which comprises the male and female reproductive organs fused into a floral column that snaps forward quickly in response to touch, harmlessly covering the insect in pollen. I'm new to this type of photography, so go easy on me. I'm learning new things along the way. I'm finding that this is quite fun to do and can give amazing results when done right. I'm using an Einstein 640 strobe with a 22" beauty dish & diffusion sock mounted on an Elinchrom Handheld Boom Arm. I typically fire my camera off with a wireless trigger, and that in turn fires my CyberSyncâ„¢ Trigger Transmitter on my Nikon D800 to fire off my strobe via a CyberSyncâ„¢ Transceiver. I end up taking several exposures, both high and low, while walking around the vehicle. I'll layer the images in Photoshop and switch each layer to the 'lighten' blend mode. I have been using layer masks to remove some highlight details from the strobe reflection, but I don't always find it works all the time. This hot rod was taken at the 2016 Mountain Thunder Car Show in Old Fort, North Carolina. I forgot how many exposures I ended up using, but i shot the car in full daylight with about 5 stops of ND filtration and had the flash power at maximum.

Have a great weekend. : ))

The 2006 Chandra three-color image (inset) of a region of the supernova remnant Puppis A (wide-angle view from ROSAT in blue) reveals a cloud being torn apart by a shock wave produced in a supernova explosion. This is the first X-ray identification of such a process in an advanced phase. In the inset, the blue vertical bar and the blue fuzzy ball or cap to the right show how the cloud has been spread out into an oval-shaped structure that is almost empty in the center. The Chandra data also provides information on the temperature in and around the cloud, with blue representing higher temperature gas.

The oval structure strongly resembles those seen on much smaller size scales in experimental simulations of the interaction of supernova shock waves with dense interstellar clouds (see sequence of laboratory images). In these experiments, a strong shock wave sweeps over a vaporized copper ball that has a diameter roughly equal to a human hair. The cloud is compressed, and then expands in about 40 nanoseconds to form an oval bar and cap structure much like that seen in Puppis A.

On a cosmic scale, the disruption of l0-light-year-diameter cloud in Puppis A took a few thousand years. Despite the vast difference in scale, the experimental structures and those observed by Chandra are remarkably similar. The similarity gives astrophysicists insight into the interaction of supernova shock waves with interstellar clouds.

Understanding this process is important for answering key questions such as the role supernovas play in heating interstellar gas and triggering the collapse of large interstellar clouds to form new generations of stars.
