I got this rose from friends of ours who are serious rose growers, and brought it home to exploit.
Lighting: The back lighting game from a manual Yongnuo flash in a grid to concentrate the light placed behind the flower on the right side, and the fill light came from another Yongnuo flash in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box positioned in front of the flower. The two strobes and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

I waited half hour to get this shot. I had my camera mounted on my Manfrotto 190 tripod and triggered with a Hahnel wired trigger
One thing I wanted to spend a bit of time doing while up in Ardnamurchan was camera trapping. Using a PIR at a selected spot, it triggers the camera based on movement. It gives a unique perspective, enabling you to capture photos you wouldn’t otherwise be able to.
In this case I was keen to show the Pine Marten that were visiting the cottage I was staying at in their forest environment. A little bit of fill flash was needed as it's quite dark in the wood, but I'm pleased with these.
I photographed this flower pot full of a cactus flowers this afternoon when all of the flowers appeared to be completely open. We've had good rains this winter and spring, and currently the temperatures are in the low 80's so the cactus and succulents are loving life.
I used camera settings that caused the background to go quite dark and then lit the flowers with one Yongnuo manual flash at full power in an 8.6 inch Lastolite soft box, hand held at camera left and pointing down at the center of the pot. Where the background didn't go completely black and was a bit distracting, I used the black paintbrush in Photoshop. The flash and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

Perched high for an overview of what is going on in the river below, this Osprey can easily keep a lookout for a passing meal of fish if lucky.

While this antique iron (circa 1890) is certainly obsolete for its intended purpose, it still makes an excellent doorstop and a easily held 6 lb. exercise weight.

I photographed this beautiful flower at the annual show put on by the San Diego Epiphyllum Society. My wife grows these flowers at home so we always attend the show if we're in town.

These are not my usual sort of out spurting, well I think not and then I remember that there is some yes to answer along with the no and so also I state that these feature nicely in with some of my edited extravagances.
This both a normal day and as well at the same time not the normal that seems a life away til it returns.

This is just about the same setup as my "Splash of Red" shot. This time I was lazy and did not try to hide the tape holding down the glasses so I just cropped the bottoms out. The glasses are taped to a piece of particle board. On the bottom of the board I taped some wheels from a lego train set. The whole platform is then slammed into a brick causing the splash. I use a sound trigger to trigger the flash which is under the table pointing at the white background. Check the comments and my previous splash shot for more setup details.
Fill tray with water. Mix washing up liquid with some water. Use straw to create a bubble on top of the water in the tray (using bubble mixture you just made). Release water drops onto the top of the bubble and capture with camera setup on tripod. This was backlit using a wireless flash and mini softbox. The hard part is timing the water drops and keeping the bubble still as it has a tendancy to move around. The bubble will happily accept many water drops before it bursts.

I photographed this beautiful flower using a simple one light setup. I lit the flower using a Yongnuo strobe in a 24 inch soft box at camera left and just out of the frame. Fill light came from a hand held mirror at camera right. The flash and my tripod mounted camera were triggered with a Yongnuo RF-603N.

I've photographed a lot of plants and flowers, because they're all around us, work cheap, and never complain. I have an album of these images with over 1100 pictures, and for each one, I have described how I lit them, in case you're interested in that kind of thing.
Just to the right of the camera is a sign that says "Santa Fe Trail crossed here". I don't know if this structure had anything to do with it. I have emailed the Morris County Historical Society, but have not heard back as of yet.
Edit: An email from the Morris County Historical Society says this: "You have triggered my curiosity, and I will check this out further. It is very close to the trail. I have identified the exact location, and I will make contact with someone in the area to see if I can find more information.
The Santa Fe Trail Association and the National Park Service are the ones responsible for locating the trail locations, and have provided the signs. The Morris County Road crew is the agency responsible for installing the signs according to the location map provided. In their research, they have not identified that building ruin as connected to the Santa Fe Trail active days in that area. But I will do some more checking, and let you know if I find out any further information."
The ejection seat in the cockpit of a Buccaneer SB2. You can see the shoulder trigger on the left side above (loops above pilots shoulders). By pulling this trigger in an emergency case the pilot ignites a propellant which eject the complete seat upward after the cockpit glass also was blasted off before. This aircraft was one of the first jet aircrafts of the RAF, entering service first as a carrier borne plane in the Royal Navy in 1962. Seen in the RAF museum Weeze-Laarbruch

Fast det har inte känts som vår vissa dagar den här veckan. Så jag bestämde mig att ta en vår-bild inomhus. Bilden är faktiskt 3 bilder (den första för påskliljan, dom andra två för den ljus-målade blomman. Ljuset kom från min telefonskärm).

... so decided to take a spring picture indoors. This was actually three shots (one for the actual daffodils, and two for the light painted flower which was my phone with a green or yellow screen)
Strobist info: One Godox AD200 at 1/4 power in a gridded square softbox directly over the daffodils. Exposure was 1/250s at f/14. The light flower was two shots (an 6s exposure for the green and a 1s exposure for the yellow). Flash triggered wirelessly.

The agave Americana was planted by early settlers for a variety of reasons, one being ornamental.
They take many years to flower, 25-30 is not uncommon.
They have the common name, "100 Year Plant".
Recent heavy rains must have triggered the right condtions as quite a number of the 'old' plants have quickly sent out flower sheaths.
Fully grown it will reach around 8-10 metres.
Sure to be a popular perching spot for the raptors in the area.
Had some time and better conditions today to try some long exposures at some waterfalls in Glenmoriston, that soon after, run into Loch Ness, Scotland, UK.
Pentax K5 II paired with a Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 LD Macro 1:2 Lens, fitted with Cokin ND8 and Polarising Filter, Manfrotto Tripod and Pan head 391RC2, triggered using a Pentax remote. Standard run through in DxO Optics Pro, no trickery, just white bubbles slowly moving on the surface of the dark water and a 15 second exposure.

A little pause from Paraty photos... testing a laser trigger that I plan to use togheter with sound trigger in a new setup I'm working on.
The coin is a US 10 cents of dollar, aka "dime".
3 flashes used on this photo, 430EX, MR14-EX and Sunpak 383, all triggered by Cactus connected to a laser trigger.
The 40d remote live view shooting from computer is awesome, helped a lot.
