Annually despite all the changes in our lives, my son and I go every Spring to the New York International Auto Show that’s held at the Jacob Javitz Convention Center in what used to be part of Hell’s Kitchen, he’s 24 now, and automobiles & sports have been something we’ve shared since he was young. It’s one of our things. The New York International Auto Show is the oldest auto show in the US. I started attending in the late 1970’s with my uncle, cousin and my brother when the event was held at the old New York Coliseum that was torn down to build the Time Warner Center at Columbus Circle.
So why am I posting an image of the Ford GT sports car now in June? Honestly, as a single father, with a full time (and then some) job, both our doggies have had some medical problems (one is still being diagnosed) I don’t get to develop all my digital files as quickly as I’d like. In addition my ADHD as I describe in my profile tends to make me a bit scatter brained in my patterns so I never really have a plan on what I get inspired to post, plus a significant racing event drew me back to the Ford GT.
Ford Motor Company returned to the Le Mans 24 hour race this year in 2016, 50 years after the Ford Motor Company’s thrilling victory over Ferrari at the 35th running of Le Mans under the direction of team owner Carroll Shelby with a Ford/Shelby GT-40 driven by A.J. Foyt and Dan Gurney. Well the father’s day gift Ford got was a victory with the Ford GT in the 2016 edition of 24 hours at Le Mans and ironically once again over Ferrari that finished second so that sort of triggered me to search for my Ford GT captures from this year’s Auto Show. So this beautiful vehicle in yellow was the basis of the winning team cars, so it marks a significant victory in the international event of American muscle and technology. Though these days I move around in a mundane and reliable Subaru Outback, when I was a lad, the Ford Mustang was probably my favorite car and that led me to admire the famous Shelby Mustangs that Texan Carroll Shelby modified for Ford Motor Company and his GT’s. Interestingly enough, the current version doesn’t have the small block V-8’s that Shelby tweaked under the hood, but actually utilizes a 3.5 Liter V-6 that in the stock GT like the one pictured here puts out over 600 horsepower, impressive indeed. I’ve included a link from Ford that gives the background of why Ford got back into racing.

This is just about the same setup as my "Splash of Red" shot. This time I was lazy and did not try to hide the tape holding down the glasses so I just cropped the bottoms out. The glasses are taped to a piece of particle board. On the bottom of the board I taped some wheels from a lego train set. The whole platform is then slammed into a brick causing the splash. I use a sound trigger to trigger the flash which is under the table pointing at the white background. Check the comments and my previous splash shot for more setup details.

How did I get the angle? One foot on a ladder - the other on the opposite wall - thankful to my sense of balance from my rock climbing days.
*Since a few people have asked - the ball is from a lighting fixture - they're readily available here in Australia from second hand stores (on the shelf at the place I got this from, there were about 30 of them - all varying sizes). It is made of glass - so is somewhat fragile - has a hole and flattened base on one side - I put the flash inside the hole and sit the flat part on the bed.
My good friend Tully and his girlfriend Leah - she's an exchange student from Germany - and was leaving to go back to Germany a few days after this photo was taken. So I said I'd come and take some photos of them together before they had to be apart for many months.

They're both 18 - yet their love for eachother is beautiful, like that of an old married couple, blissfully content for 60 years.
Being only 20 years old, I'm very new at the photography scene - having only shot for the past year or so.

2003/06/19: The city of Buford erect a statue of Roy Rogers, Trigger and Jack Johnson, the last living Bona Allen saddle maker. In the late 1940s, Roy Rogers had a custom saddle made in the city of Buford. The Bona Allen factory also made custom saddles for the actors on the Bonanza show.
While the name Bona Allen is synonymous with the leather industry in Buford, it was his older brother, R.H. Allen, who established the first tanning operation here in late 1870, early 1871. R.H., though partially paralyzed and unable to walk, worked tirelessly. He traveled by goat cart soliciting business, selling hides, and manufacturing saddles, harnesses, bridles, and other leather goods.

A little pause from Paraty photos... testing a laser trigger that I plan to use togheter with sound trigger in a new setup I'm working on.
The coin is a US 10 cents of dollar, aka "dime".
3 flashes used on this photo, 430EX, MR14-EX and Sunpak 383, all triggered by Cactus connected to a laser trigger.
The 40d remote live view shooting from computer is awesome, helped a lot.

Macro Mondays 'junk' theme.
I have no idea why, but I keep trigger clips from dog leads. Whenever a lead wears out or breaks, I carefully cut off the clip and toss it into a little dish along with all the others.
These are fairly small trigger clips and the widest part of the clips showing measures a fraction over 2 inches

This was a remarkably tricky shot to light. 580exii + 430exii + pixel king wireless flash triggers on ETTL. Both flashes just outside the frame pointed from just behind through the stone.
