Trigger, Check, 2x, Timer

Day seven of talk and dress like a pirate badge. They can't all be winners!

This is what gets me where I go when my legs can't walk that far...or maybe just don't want to.......my beloved VR6.

It was hard for me to find a place with low enough ambient to pull this one off. I'd been brewing at this one for a while, but never got down to trying it. Tonight seemed like a good night.

Strobist Info:

I duct taped 3 SB-28's to a light stand, each on it's own level so it could be adjusted individually and each with it's own pocket wizard. I also had an SB-26 on the top, and I had taped a little white piece of paper on the 2nd to upper most SB-28 to bounce light up and trigger the 26 (check out the picture below). By the time I got a shot I was happy with, the cheapo batteries I was using in the 26 died on me, so I only have 3 firing instead of 4. I had so many misfires, dealing with light bouncing issues, recycling issues and my shoe coming off in the mud issues. This was all done on bulb mode, and I realized when I arrived that I had no timer, so I just did some guess work/counted out loud to myself as I walked. If anyone had been around, I'm sure I'd have seemed like a weirdo.

What I think I ended up with was a 38 second exposure at f/11 and iso 200. I had my strobes set at 1/16th power, which was where I found they recycled quick enough, but where still powerful enough at iso 200 to still be able to push a fairly closed down aperture for a semi star as opposed to just a blob of light. This is a single exposure. I just walked around the car holding the light stand, and firing it off with my master PW which I held in my other hand. I just tried to keep a steady rhythm around the car. My arm is sore....

Lighting info - One SB-800 flash triggered by Nikon CLS - inside the ball ( $1 thing from a 2nd hand store).

Exposure: 1/250th

Aperture: f/19

Focal Length: 18 mm

Lens: Nikon 18-70mm

Camera: Nikon D200

Post Processing: Only cropping of the image as there was a bit too much black space on her side.

How did I get the angle? One foot on a ladder - the other on the opposite wall - thankful to my sense of balance from my rock climbing days.

*Since a few people have asked - the ball is from a lighting fixture - they're readily available here in Australia from second hand stores (on the shelf at the place I got this from, there were about 30 of them - all varying sizes). It is made of glass - so is somewhat fragile - has a hole and flattened base on one side - I put the flash inside the hole and sit the flat part on the bed.

My good friend Tully and his girlfriend Leah - she's an exchange student from Germany - and was leaving to go back to Germany a few days after this photo was taken. So I said I'd come and take some photos of them together before they had to be apart for many months.

Tully is an up and coming solo guitarist/singer - the same person in these 3 shots:

They're both 18 - yet their love for eachother is beautiful, like that of an old married couple, blissfully content for 60 years.

Being only 20 years old, I'm very new at the photography scene - having only shot for the past year or so.

My kindest regards and sincere thanks go out to all of you who have commented or added this photo to their favourites. It really does mean a lot to me and helps me to grow and improve as a photographer.

If this photo has attracted your attention or put a smile on your face - please have a look through my photo stream and offer any feedback you can, positive or negative - as I'm open to the wisdom and views of those with more experience than myself.

Flickr is an amazing place - never before has it been so easy to share so much creativeness and learn from eachother.

Do you remember the other "Five Little Friends" image that I uploaded a week ago? This shot here was actually the first one which I took that day and the other one was the last one… In between both shots I have had a lot of fun and quite some amount of sugar ;)

I like some of the results very much. So I’m going to upload some of them from time to time… I hope you like them, too!

Strobist info: I used two 80cm x 80cm softboxes with two YN560III (triggered by a YN560TX). Each of them was positioned on one side.

Chocolate is addictive because it contains sugar and fat that trigger brain reward pathways. Generally, highly processed foods, including chocolates, are considered more addictive than foods with minimal processing.

Like any other addictive food — can cause a withdrawal-like response when you stop eating it. High-sugar foods are on top of the list of commonly-craved foods among Americans, with the average American taking in about 22 teaspoons of added sugar daily.

Multiple studies find that typical sweets like chocolate or cookies can be as addictive as cocaine or morphine. (I wonder how many chocolate addicts have turned to robbery or violence to "feed" their habit).

Strobist Info: 580 EXII with 1/4th +0.7 in front of camera into the ceiling. 420 EZ attached to my arm in each shot and flashed against the background with 1/4 th to whiten it out. Was inspired to do a square composite by brookeshaden, who wrote a very cool article on how she uses square as the perfect format and how she manages to increase picture size by cropping...

This one here has nearly 30 MP as well.

And yes if you ask yourself who won that fight: Me!

Turns out this is my 100th shot that ended up in Explore at some point:
