Trigger plants (Stylidium graminifolium) have just appeared in Manly Dam - first appearance for 2015. This macro shows the "trigger" which transfers pollen to a visiting insect, as well as the sticky trichomes on the stem and underneath the petals which actually make the flower carnivorous.

This girl is my absolute best friend in the world. She probably knows me better than I know myself. Love her to death.

Why do we listen to actors when they consistently model unsafe behaviors? Why does Hollywood think stupid is sexy?

Finding this old negative triggered memory of a family trip to Ontario in the summer of 1938 As I recall, we didn't see the quintuplits but I took this photo of the cars in the parking lot. I found it interesting to see cars of 70 years ago.
Can anyone name the makes?
To you who don't recall the famous Dionne quintuplits, here's a link.
Stylidium hortiorum
This plant was first collected in Western Australia in 1962 but not given a species name until the year 2000. It is a beautiful plant which grows in clumps to 40 cm tall.
One of its special features of this species, is three mounds near its throat which shine white to attract insects for pollination.
Stylidiums have a trigger which is set off by the insects as they land on the petals which act as a landing platform. The trigger pats the insect on the back, leaving pollen to be mixed with the next flower's pollen.

Harrogate Railway Athletic (red and green) about to get a shot away during a 3-1 victory at Welton Group Stadium (or Marshlands) over Northern Counties East League Division One rivals Louth Town.
The Rail were three up after just 22 minutes at the Saltfleetby venue. It meant a losing start for 2023 Lincolnshire League champions Louth on their return to step six non-league football.

Over 7-1/2" of xenon easily triggered with a hand wound trigger coil. A very special thanks to Dr. Lindsay Wilson for his help and direction in locating parts and winding the coil - it works very well.
A microwave oven transformer is charged to 775 volts and is discharged through the primary in this setup. I plan to use the lamp with 3 large HV capacitors (in background in the following photo, behind the blue cylinder shaped electrolytic capacitors), for a total storage of around 750 joules.
I plan to attempt to pump the larger of the two rods, in the following photo ...
I suspect it to be either Nd:Glass or Nd:Yag, however, I am not certain. Like Nd:Yag and Nd:Glass, it changes color under different lighting. However, it is more purple than the Nd:Glass rods I have (the Nd:Glass rods look bluer). It could also be Nd:Glass, and just be a different kind of glass than ones I have. It is 9" long.

Wide Bandpass, fc = 80kHz
DC - 50Hz Line Rejection >120dB, which means it should be more or less independent of ambient light conditions or should have a huge range if used as a slave strobe trigger.
It triggers photo current spikes as low as 10nA with 50Hz current of 10µA.
Due to the very fast reaction time it should be very suitable for projectile sensing in highspeed photography.
More practical tests will follow.
