MEYER LILAC (Syringa meyeri)
This species lilac has not been found in the wild, leading some to believe it is a hybrid between other littleleaf lilacs. It has clusters of small lilac colored blooms which are very fragrant, and remain a low growing shrub. The variety 'Palibin' is the most dwarf of the lilacs, only reaching 4 fty. "I have three children and I need the extra money. Our life is very hard."
Burundian refugee, Hatungimana Specioza, 29, works in the tree-planting nursery at Nduta camp, Tanzania, established by the non-governmental organisation, Relief To Development Society (REDESO). ; Nduta opened in October 2015 as an emergency measure to relocate 40,000 Burundian refugees from Nyarugusu camp. Quickly surpassing its capacity of 50,000 people, the Tanzanian Government extended the camp a year later. Its population numbers 125,000 (as of November 2017) and a programme of voluntary repatriation is in progress. Scarcity of firewood and other alternative energy sources remains a key challenge across all camps in western Tanzania, including near by Nyagurusu and Mtendeli. The REDESO nursery programme in Nduta provides an income of $15 a month for refugee workers tending the trees. There are nine types of trees grown, some for fruit and some for timber. Just 7 per cent of funding for UNHCR’s $217 million appeal to assist Burundian refugees in Tanzania has been received (as of Nov 2017.)
Sweetheart Lilac - The Classic Double Pink, Fabulously Fragrant
Early-flowering, it's great for warmer climates.
The timeless appeal of this early bloomer deserves a place in every garden. Beginning with deep claret-colored buds, Sweetheart's abundant clusters of soft pink double flowers burst forth a full 10 days before other cultivars, inviting admirers with both their beauty and their unmistakable intoxicating fragrance.
This timeless beauty is an interspecific hybrid of hyacinthiflora heritage, making it a true gift for gardeners in warmer climates. Its early bloom time means that it can put on its breathtaking floral display, even in the shortest spring season, whereas other lilacs may fade in the heat.
Introduced by Clarke in 1953, Sweetheart has long been renowned for its fragrant blooms. The 8-12-foot-tall by 8-foot-wide trees look splendid in any setting and are especially beloved for cutting, bringing their pastel beauty and exquisite fragrance indoors. www.jacksonandperkins.com/sweetheart-lilac/p/32896/

According to the Tibetan Exile Governments Department of Home:
"This settlement is called Delekling Tibetan settlement. At the time that the refugees in the Solo Khumbu area started the handicrafts center there in 1961 there were about 6000 refugees in the whole khumbu area. This number has gradually decreased over the years as many of the refugees have left for Kathmandu and India. At present there are only 657 refugees in this area including the workers at the handicraft center.
The settlement at Solu Khumbu has both a handicrafts center and agricultural land, which is quite good and is able to employ some of the settlers. The handicraft center was started in1961 by the Tibetans themselves in order to find some means of supporting themselves. The settlers depend on agricultural as the main source of living. They grow wheat, barley, potatoes and other vegetables. However due to lack of irrigation facilities and other agricultural know how the production from the agricultural is only up to the subsistence level.
Settlement Location
This settlement is situated at Chailsa, Solu Khumbu which is located in extreme Northwest of Nepal with an altitude of 2775, meters above sea level. The settlement has an average temperature of 21-degree Celsius and annual rainfall of 62cms.
Settlement Population
When the settlement was first established there was total population of 525 people. However with the passage of time there is fall in the population of the settlement. This fall in the settlement people is mainly because of the migration of the settlers to the urban areas of Nepal and India. This migration of the settlers is due to the lack of the employment within the settlement."

SENSATION (Syringa vulgaris)
This is a very unusual lilac; a dark purple flower with a brilliant white picotee margin. It was discovered by a Dutch hybridizer who was forcing lilacs as cut flowers in a greenhouse. One branch had this sport, or bud mutation, and Maarse recognized the interest that this lilac would create. (from a 2009 Park sign)
