Not a textured background - just wet concrete.

Semi addicted to selective-saturation.

Thanks.

In the forest's tranquil grace,

The gray squirrel finds its place,

With dainty paws and eyes so keen,

It's a vision of nature's serene scene.

Among the branches, it glides and weaves,

In the dappled light, among the leaves,

Its silver fur, a soft array,

Guiding it through its woodland ballet.

With a nimble spirit, it freely roams,

In nature's sanctuary, it finds its homes,

A creature so elegant, in every way,

Enhancing the beauty of each new day.

Oh, graceful gray squirrel, in your stride,

You dance through the woods, so full of pride,

In your presence, we find joy and cheer,

A reminder of nature's wonders, crystal clear.

Through emerald leaves and autumn gold,

The gray squirrel’s story unfolds,

A tiny dancer, quick and free,

Leaping through the forest sea.

Its silver fur, a gentle hue,

Blends with dawn’s soft morning dew,

A brush of gray in nature’s hand,

Painting life across the land.

With tiny paws, it scours the ground,

For acorns, seeds—treasures found.

A builder, saver, wild and wise,

Its work beneath the open skies.

High in the canopy, it soars,

A nimble spirit, forest’s core.

Its tail, a banner, sways with pride,

A guide through where the branches hide.

Oh, little guardian of the trees,

Dancing with the autumn breeze,

Your fleeting form, a fleeting grace,

Brings magic to this woodland space.

'Trees are sanctuaries. Whoever knows how to speak to them, whoever knows how to listen to them, can learn the truth. They do not preach learning and precepts, they preach, undeterred by particulars, the ancient law of life'...Hermann Hesse, 'Wandering' 1920.

Trees are fundamental to our development as they meet our needs at every level of human experience. There isn't a single tree out there, big or small, that I am not in awe of.

There's a creek near here, which flows over waterfalls and cascades, following the line of a volcanic dyke of the Jurassic age. The hillsides support a wide variety of native trees and shrubs. The creek and the upper valley's tree ferns and forest environment through which it flows combine to create a feeling of tranquility in this beautiful natural oasis.

In celebration of man's modern achievement. During Earth Hour 2009, I turned on every light in my house. Both of my cars are idle. A ball of 6 strains of 100 professional outdoor Christmas lights hooked together with 6 balls of 100 lights each surrounding it. To top it off, a 600 watt halogen light pointing at the front door.

Sorry, it isn't as good as I want. I should have exposed another .5 or 1 stop.

Many thanks to you ALL for the views, faves and comments you make on my shots it is very appreciated.

I am not sure when being a treehugger became a derogatory term it seems a fairly harmless activity. Anyway for the next few weeks I will be metaphorically tree hugging

.

The ancient tree in the image is in the grounds of Magdalen College in Oxford

THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT AND FOR TAKING THE TIME TO WRITE A COMMENT IT’S MUCH APPRECIATED AND SO MUCH MORE INTRESTING THAN JUST GIVING A FAVE

My watch dog, about 8 years ago. She's still just as funny.

big thanks to adam for helping me shoot this.

Something a little different, a result of my ongoing interest in the many expressions of natural life in an ecosystem: the so-called Bitter Oyster, or Oysterling, a fungus whose fruit is a mushroom that grows for a very short period in denser forest. It is saprobic, meaning it draws nourishment from material (in this case trees) that are already dead.

One of the really neat things about this species is that it is bioluminescent, and a source of what has come to be called foxfire - a slight greenish glow at night in the forest. Under the right conditions (or even better, with the appropriate equipment) the glow can be intense. It is a product of chemicals inside the fruit, and it is normally brightest at the core and at the edges of the fruit.

Although the mycologist I contacted to help me identify the fruit warned me that it earned its name, and that I would not enjoy eating it, other species in the woods disagreed, and it was almost completely gone two days later.

For a neat account of foxfire and bioluminescence, I found this site useful: www.treehugger.com/foxfire-strange-glow-woods-night-4863960

closer look at a female treehugger dragonfly

She seem to be wearing a red bra at the wrong place .....on her head :)

Another interesting feature was the face-like marking on her back with 2 shut eyes.

Autumn sunshine at Stourhead Lake, Wiltshire this afternoon

Not been very well this week, so I thought I'd get out in the fresh air today and visit NT Stourhead for the 1st time.

What a beautiful place and despite being rubbish weather all morning, once we got there the sun even came out :) Some lovely Autumn colour starting to show, couple more weeks (without wind) and it'll be spot on, I reckon.

A tree takes back the errors of man. No parking becomes parking with this minor correction.

Tree Hugging....

This morning the skies were turbulent with thick heavy snow clouds, snow began falling in the early morning hours and persisted throughout the day leaving thick white deep snow everywhere.

just before noon Karen and I headed out to our favorite conservation area to get a few shots. while shooting i turned to find katren in a full tree embrace. she really loves to be out doors in the winter as she gets cabin fever if i keep her indoors to long. LOL she is certainly one of a kind and she has my heart.

Thank you for visiting for marking my photo as a favourite and for the kind comments,

[Tyriobapta torrida Kirby, 1889] photographed in Borneo.

This species of dragonfly is known as the treehugger. This curious name derives from their habit of hanging on to the lower trunk and branches of trees.

that signed the executive order stopping all oil exploration and drilling on the Continental Shelf.... not some tree hugging-communist-democrat as people like to say... rather, a died in the wool republican. so put that in your pipe and smoke it.
