Even with these remnants of the logging industry from the 1800's, its hard to imagine that two man teams would cut up to 100 trees per day over the winter months. With multiple teams, there wouldn't have been much forest left standing at that rate. It wasn't easy on the men either - they would consume up to 7000 calories per day. The bigger men could lose 30-40 lbs of weight over the winter cutting season. Thank goodness for environmentalists and conservation efforts.
One of the most hauntingly beautiful scenes I've ever been blessed enough to see. This is "the tree" in New Zealand at Lake Wanaka. I resisted shooting it on my first trip because it had been so overshot, but shot it begrudgingly in spite of myself on my second trip and simply fell in love. As the fog rolled in most of the photographers rolled out, but I took that opportunity to capture the tree in a serene moment ~ almost like the last performance of a Hollywood actress. Happy Tree Hugger Tuesday!
"Chipmunks aren’t picky eaters and spend a lot of time searching for their next meal, including at bird feeders (as many annoyed homeowners can attest). These omnivores love nuts, berries, seeds, mushrooms, insects, frogs, earthworms, lizards, baby birds, and bird eggs. During late summer and fall, they begin carrying extra food back to their burrow in their ample, stretchy cheek pouches (which can hold a stash three times the size of their head). National Geographic reports that a hardworking chipmunk can gather as many as 165 acorns in a single day. This foraging also benefits the larger ecosystem; chipmunks spread seeds and important mycorrhizal fungi that live around tree roots, ensuring they thrive."

Yes, you have seen this shot before. I have redone it to fit more with the actual book. Some commented on the original post that it look like "The Giving Tree" book. After I read the book it I couldn't help it but to make a tribute.
I HIGHLY recommend looking for this book.
I could have missed them resting on the tree trunk. there were several of them very well blend into the environment.

After shooting some photos of the blossoming heather, I was looking for trees, sunstars and some fog. As the fog was not so intense, I was glad to stumble over this very local bit of fog surrounding these trees!

Reading a library book on a tiny iphone 5s isn't for everyone, but does offer my nearsighted eye some options.
1. I can read in the dark with my one very, VERY nearsighted eye on the iPhone;
2. I can read light on dark backgrounds when my eye feels tired;
3. I can download another set of library books or purchase books, because I like to have multiple books at hand;
4. I can increase font size or kerning or leading;
5. and I can still read paper books.
The best of paper and digital worlds.

Today we went hiking at the Calaveras Big Trees State Park, located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. A big storm passed by a week ago, dumping lots of snow. This park is famous for giant sequoia trees, some up to 90m (300 ft) tall.
I processed a realistic, a photographic, and a paintery HDR photos from two RAW exposures, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

Tree hugger is/was a slang term for environmentalists and was more derogatory back then. Today, with more becoming aware of the effects we (humankind) have had on our little planet we all call home, I think it is safe to say we are all tree huggers. At least I hope a good percentage of us are. tree huggers today as our planet is relying on us to help it survive.
My little friend here reminded me of the term used years ago of "tree huggers".
