On a photo tour you often look for a suitable place to take photos of the sunset in the entire region. On this day we drove through Eastern Switzerland.
When we took a break in the evening at the Alpstein Mountains, we soon had the feeling that this is the right place for it. Behind me it was cloudless in the west, at the same time the clouds on the Säntis dissolved. When the sun disappeared behind the hills, nature started fireworks. Out of sheer joy, I was probably also the last eastern Swiss marmot, pulled out of hibernation.
Belgium - December2022
I had this photo in mind for a while; 2 rows of trees, a road in the middle (a classic I would say) but in the woods on the edge of Brussels and especially fog!
With the cooling of the temperatures in early December, there was more and more fog these mornings, so I watched the weather closely for a possible foggy session (as I missed one the week before...).
That morning, conditions had to be met for some fog ! ; No / very little wind, a fairly high level of humidity in the air (here we were almost at 100%), and temperatures approaching the dew point; everything was there.
After a little bike ride to find the right place... here is the result!
Again I used a CPL (circular polarizer filter) to enhance the colors of the leaves by reducing reflected light.

July 2021 - France - The Mont Saint Michel
For the record, no, this photo was not taken with a drone.
I lacked height for these meanders to give a feeling of a 'path' to Mont Saint Michel
That's why I held my tripod at arm's length on which I had fixed my camera and shot a series of photos with a timer. Until the composition, focus etc. suited me.

ITA - Mentre scattavo questa foto ero sommerso dalla neve e sferzato dal vento. Era tanto che volevo fotografare quest’albero e così ho scattato comunque con la promessa di tornare in condizioni diverse. Il bello della fotografia.
ENG - While I was taking this photo I was covered in snow and whipped by the wind. I had wanted to photograph this tree for a long time and so I took it anyway with the promise to return in different conditions. The beauty of photography.
what do you see there? I see a kind of eagle cut in the iceberg.
Like what, we sometimes play with the clouds trying to find shapes, here it was the same but with ice blocks!

July 2021 - France - Kermorvan
A long exposure in the early morning of a lighthouse that I already posted: Kermorvan.
The atmosphere is different, for the first one I liked the texture of the clouds above the lighthouse announcing an imminent storm as well as the movement of the water.
Here it is even more more 'moody' and dark ; the light from the lighthouse, the sea and the sky are smoother, and a small detail that I hadn't noticed at that time, it was high tide, this allows to isolate the lighthouse's 'island' much more which enhance the photo's interest.

Just returned from Switzerland.
.
There is no more beautiful mountain landscape when it has just snowed.
.
That day, I had the choice: skiing in the fog / snow, or taking out my camera,.. think I made the right choice! Enjoy!

The weather conditions were clearly not the best at this sunrise, and this composition is quite classic, but the place remains super photogenic. To make the photo easier, I tried a long exposure to smooth out the clouds and the waves,... not unhappy with the result, même si rien d'exceptionnel but I'll go back one day with another sky!

Diamond Beach.. Finally! I've been seeing pictures of this beach for years, and I was finally able to capture this myself.
We went twice in the morning, and each time we had a beautiful sunrise.
It's a special place because it's so iconic, you want to get out of there having taken some great photos, but I can tell you that it's not easy. Given that "all photos have already been taken on this beach"; it's not easy to get out of there with an original photo that would come out of what is usually done. So there is a little pressure there.
Then it's clearly not easy to photograph. You have to manage to juggle the waves (have the right timing to capture a beautiful movement in the water), the other photographers (some don't hesitate to stand right in front of the shot you want to take, or in any case, being in the frame), and the difference in brightness between the clear sky and the foreground which is still dark (at sunrise).
(Note to myself for next time: having Softer ND filters and also Soft grads ND filters, rather than Hard ones, would make it easier to juggle with settings)
These different factors make that the pressure is there, and when I came back from that beach, despite having taken far too many photos, I was not even sure of having 1 picture that was going to meet my expectations...
Luckily in the end I was surprised during the photo editing, there are several photos that I like and that I want to share with you!

With a bit of delay, here are the first shots of 2023's Hallerbos.
I tried, some more intimate shots, focusing on some details / contrasts and finding balancing compositions.
Feedbacks are welcome !
I hope you enjoy !
TIPS for Bluebells
- GET UP EARLY : no secrets there
- Think before you shoot
- ZOOM IN to refine your subject
- Simplify & balance your scene
- Clean the edges of your frame
- Play with your aperture (try it wide, and low iso (if no wind))
- Select your moment (sun & fog)
MOST important : respect the nature
- Do not crush the flowers (feet / tripod)
- Stay on paths
- Do not pick the flowers
- Stay quiet for forest dwellers
- Please take beautiful photos

The Mont-Saint-Michel
July 2021 - France
A single place, multitudes of possible shots!
It's a point on which I try to work a lot, I had a bad habit of sticking to one place in order to have THE photo with the best possible conditions... result; I had 100 photos that looked alike when it is clearly more interesting to move around and to vary the compositions and come back with several interesting photos!
Here Mont Saint-Michel at sunrise, after being almost surprised by the rising tide, we could observe the place from another pooint, and with luck I could find these small cracks.
Another note for me: I could have taken 3 photos with 3 different focus points to have the photo entirely sharp (= "focus stack") to have the foreground as well as the background in focus, I was not not yet used to this technique, that's why I chose to close the aperture of my lens to have a completely correct result!

The Belgian's Heather Season
August 2022 - Belgium
As promised, third composition of that same spot of that great morning.
First time I went out to take the heather in bloom. I'll have to do it more often (it's on the agenda for next year), so nice to go out, with a quiet atmosphere.. It motivates me for the autumn !

Mushrooms # againandagain
October 2022 - Belgium - Brussels
That shot was taken during my second attempt. Again a focus stack (4 shots) 1 for the Bokeh and 3 other shots, one for the mushrooms on the left and 2 for the "big one". Clearly I struggled in Photoshop since it was my first "complex" focus stack but I learned from my mistakes.. After all, I'm glad of the result !
Here are some key takeaways I note for myself from what I observed ;
- getting at" Mushroom level" is key, even below is better to see the stripes
- backgound is really important ; for this one there was a soft light in the background and no disturbeing elements ; that's why the background is clean.
- Sometimes you have to work without tripod becouse your head is literraly already on the ground, no place for a tripod (not the case of for thise one, it was on a trunck)
- the smaller mushroum the better
- for a nice bokeh ; try a wide aperture => I even did some focus stack with a F8 shot to sharpen the subject and keep the soft background of the wide aperture.
Nikon d750, 105 mm F/2.8 macro, F/8 at 0.8 secs, iso 100.
