Inside the grounds of Stormont estate and the tree lined area next to the Prince of Wales Avenue which leads up to Parliament Buildings.
In a cold but relatively mild winter, the ice forms but is subject to a lot of cracking around objects such as trees. When this happens the brightness of a modest sunset can reveal that the plates are slightly tilted by their shades. I hope the week is going well for all!
This is one of those shots that I went waaaaay out of my way to get. I've always loved this tree, which is in someone's yard. And it was bad enough that I went halfway up their neighbour's driveway to get a view free of wires and whatnot. Then it turned out I couldn't get it from the ground (too much other growth in the foreground) so I climbed on top of a bloody stone wall (a high one, I should add) and balanced my tripod in a very precarious place... crouching along the top of the wall (hiding) during the long exposures... and worrying worrying worrying that a) I might fall b) the camera and tripod might fall, and c) someone might see me there and think I'm up to something nefarious.
After all that, I'm not entirely pleased with the shot. If the skies cooperate, I'm going to try it again with my new SLR, which hasn't been out of the house yet. (Wish me luck and moonlight, eh?)

Is this the only snowy picture I'm going to get this year - I'm beginning to think so. I was heading home from Glenridding when I drove through a blizzard in Dockray - nearly a complete white out. I pulled over and shot this with the D800 and 85mm lens that I just happened to have in the glove box. If we'd had a good winter I likely wouldn't have put this up on here but I'm doing it to remind myself what snow looks like.

Sunrise on Lawrence Field, Peak District, UK.
Another shot of this famous Peak District tree. This time without the composition being governed by me wanting to achieve a sunburst. This angle shows the recognisable shape. Tripod down as low as possible to get the left hand branch clear of the horizon.

This is a fairly famous grove of trees in Tuscany, and I felt I needed to get a shot of this place. We drove around Tuscany just as the sun was setting, highlighting these amazing rolling hills.
