Aki demonstrating our T2 treadmill. The one thing we never skip in space is leg day. Even during this hectic spacewalk season, with our planners are giving us time off to recuperate after the 20-hour spacewalk days... we never skip the exercise time! It is important on Earth but even more in space to stay active and keep our bones and muscles from wasting away. A huge shoutout to the planners who organise our time up here, it is incredibly more complicated than you might think. For example some research would be ruined by the small vibrations passing through the Station when we run, so we cannot use the treadmill when those experiments are running. Then there are seven of us here and we all get 2 hours of exercise in, so 14 hours a day somebody is working out. Basically there is a lot running on the Space Station at all times... 😀

Rim to River down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon! Wonderful 2 hour video by Treadmill TV. Here is a link to their YouTube site:

With 11 people on board and only four fitness stations it is difficult for everybody to get their required daily exercise. The departing Crew-1 have priority as they need their muscle and bone mass to resist to the gravity they will feel in a few days. We, as the arriving Crew-2, have 180 days of our mission to train and stay fit for our return. I did have a short session on the "T2" treadmill -which is not named after the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie I think, but because it is the second model of International Space Station treadmill. Unfortuneatly, with the fluid shift to the the upper body that astronauts experience in weightlessness, my legs already look smaller compared to before – Arnie would not be proud! ;)

Running on a treadmill feels somewhat easier physically because the ground is being pulled underneath your feet and there's no wind resistance.
Running outside demands more from your body because you're propelling your body forward stride for stride.
The treadmill is a great equipment in gyms and homes across the world, due to its simplicity, ease of use and convenience and it also gives quality great workout!
The number of calories burned while running depends on a number of factors including the individual’s weight, the intensity of the workout and the efficiency of the runner.
The NPS ("new propulsion system") sets it apart from the competition! Not recommended for drag racing, though...

This treadmill looks unusual.. Because it is! The Anti-Gravity Treadmill uses air pressure to lift their user off the belt, which has the effect of lowering body weight. This makes running easier. At the European Astronaut Centre, we use it during the rehabilitation process of returning astronauts.

WEEK 7 Story: Forgotten
Abandoned was a very popular week in the original challenge. For the advanced challenge tell the story of something forgotten. #dogwood52 #dogwood2017 #dogwoodweek7 #forgotten
Part of a series of gym scenes I'm attempting for my sister. Her husband is a personal trainer, and is opening his own gym. She asked if I could make anything for them to decorate the place with.
Since they live 1500 miles away I have not yet seen the establishment. I am awaiting photos of the building, to see if I can recreate at least the facade, maybe part of the interior, and put a sig-fig of my bro-in-law in it somewhere. In the meantime they get scenes in random interior spaces. More to come, hopefully.
I don't typically make New Year's Resolutions but now that the treadmill is back in its spot....it will be used
Treadmills were historically used as a method of reforming offenders in prison, an innovation introduced by Sir William Cubitt in 1817. these were also termed treadwheels. The first private health club in the U.S. was started by Professor Louis Attila in 1894. Cardio workout machines entered the clubs much later and were developed initially for the hospital. The first medical treadmill designed to diagnose heart and lung disease was invented by Dr. Robert Bruce and Wayne Quinton at the University of Washington in 1952. Dr. Kenneth Cooper's research on the benefits of aerobic exercise, published in 1968, provided a medical argument to support the commercial development of the home treadmill and exercise bike.
Just over 5 months from shoulder surgery I'm able to get back on the treadmill...I don't believe in resolutions so this is not one...it is recovery.
Redesign on the treadmill. I was not happy with the first treadmill so I redesigned it, much happier with this one

Just ran 16.300 km on the treadmill (35 minutes at 28.000 km/h).
Gerade eben 16.300 km auf dem Laufband gelaufen (35 Min mit 28.000 km/h).
