Creeping along at only 10 mph, a northbound Goose Lake train takes its cars out of Alturas to Lakeview. One section of track for somewhere between five to ten miles of track hugs the hills leading down to the North Fork Pit River. The train is seen along this section before the road splits off until the tracks reach the settlement of Davis Creek.
Standing on Sgurr na Banaichdaich.
Part of a long day on Skye Cuillin ridge which Started with Mhadaidh and Ghreadaidh, over Banaichdaich, descent down to Loch Coruisk and up the Dubh's ridge, before returning to Glen Brittle.
A couple of diminutive looking hikers can be seen early on as they head off on the Piz Boe traverse. My goal that morning was to reach the Rifugio Boe which is out of sight over the sunny patch at the top left of this view.
My hiking pals, Mark, Caig and Mike had all taken the view that they would remain at another of the high rifugio and await my return. I am sure that they sunbathed, chilled out and sat drinking coffee. I on the other hand was in my element as I carefully made my way along this track. I must admit that I do like the sense of adventure that comes when I head off on a solo hike.
There are only two ways to cross the pond Gines, step or gallop jumping over the water ....

As we move around to start the climb, we get a good view of the ridge traverse we are to follow to eventually reach the peak of Cairn Gorm, which can just be seen to the far left of image, but first we have climb to the top of the coire to the right, which looks rather steep!
Cairn Gorm, the mountain from which the Cairngorm mountain range gets its name, stands at 1245 meters (4085 feet) and is my 4th Munro of the season, my 27th in total. The hike (no bike this time) sees me covering a circuit of just over 7 miles and making an elevation gain of around 762 meters (2500 feet).

On dit que nous sommes tous dans le même bain. Pourtant, certains semblent trouver un passage au dessus de la mêlée et traverser l'épreuve sans se mouiller le moins du monde. Ils nous tracent la voie.

They say we are all in the same bath. However, some seem to find a passage above the fray and cross the test without getting wet at all. They show us the way.
The trail to Calf Creek Falls travels over three miles in a canyon full of various kinds of trees and other vegetation watered by the creek. The trees that stretch over the trail are probably Box Elder.
Back in July we completed a 6-day traverse across the North Cascades in Washington State. We crossed numerous glaciers, climbed over dramatic mountain passes, and enjoyed world-class alpine scenery. Hopefully I'll have time to edit a few shots from that trip in the coming weeks. Here is just one of the many glaciers we passed through. I had to include my friend standing next to the massive ice chunks for scale!

. . . The view of both Grand Traverse Bays and sunset over the Old Mission Peninsula from north of Elk Rapids. The snow clouds off to the north created white out conditions when it finally hit!
This is a 5 shot pano and was merged in Photoshop then processed in Lightroom. Have a great week Facebook, Flickr, and 500px friends!
