I made these trash birds out of clean trash such as food packaging, labels, junk mail, scraps of fabric from old clothes ect. I used wire, hot glue and thread to hold them together.

Thila Fushi is where the trash goes in the Maldives. Much is imported into the small island nation, particularly for the tourists and tourist resorts. Container ships come in filled and leave empty, resulting in a major trash problem for the country. They ship it to Thila Fushi where it is sorted, scrap metal is salvaged, plastic bottles are piled up, and anything that can be burned is. Here, in the western marina where boats come for repair and storage, wind blown and tide driven trash covers the water like a thick carpet.

The full trash, I wanted the discarded items in the trash to represent what a computer geek would likely throw out, and also the kinds of items that would end up in a trash can beaten to this degree. I had a few other items in the trash including a VHS tape, but I couldn't get it to look like it was in the can, rather than on top of it, no matter how I blended it.
I chose to use a broken CD because 1 I usually break my CDs when I throw them out, and 2, its cool looking.. hey, sometimes theres no reason other than that. I spent excessive amounts of time on this, I like its contents.
