Working with trash creating one of a kind outrageous pieces of sculptures for the body... dare to wear!! I collect rubber and recycle it by constructing original pieces of wearable art for daring costumers. I have been crafting each piece, each outfit all by hand and with not patterns, no machines and no glue of any kind.
There were lots of tourists and people selling things to tourists around the pyramids, and they left a lot of trash

"Executioner's Hood"
Materials: Reclaimed burlap, bamboo garden stakes, plastic bags, aluminum pop tabs, twill ribbon
Artist's Statement:
"What does it mean? The name itself is confusing. The piece itself is a wonder. Some people might be disturbed that this naked figure is covered in a hood that resembles the hoods of assassins of Abraham Lincoln when they were being led out to be publicly hanged. There is a reason for that.
I feel as if society is putting their own hoods over their heads. Except, the difference is that instead of keeping the world from seeing them, they are keeping themselves from seeing the world as they lead themselves into an ecological demise. Wal-Mart is a big culprit of hiding what is behind the curtain, in their food and their products in general. The world is loaded with social injustice anbd the Western world, specifically the US, is putting on this hood and blinding itself to what is really there.
My piece is a social statement saying that if we don't open our eyes to what is really inside the packages of our food, or even in the peels of our fruit, and if we don't address the workers who have produced these products, we are leading ourselves to the gallows and tightening the rope around our own necks. I want that world to look deeper into their daily lives and see what they are doing to everybody, to everything.
I think a major problem in Western "culture" is that we don't have a personal code of ethics. we're selfish and its impossible for any of us to look through the hood and see reality. Reality in what we are doing to the delicate world we live off of. I feel like the piece quietly, and possibly even offensively, addresses this. the piece represents the offense that the people have towards the world and towards each other. Enough with the blinders."

My own thoughts:
I was very intrigued with this one. I had mixed feelings about it until I read the artist's statement of intent...it made so much sense. I am trying to track down this artist in order to get a copy of the statement to post under these photos as it clears up a lot of confusion.
Basically I believe this is about corporate America destroying our environment.
The rain really brought out the color of the red wall. I liked how the trash bin was so close to the new handbags in the window... only a few feet and a wall separating them.
Our neighbors had this trash truck crash into their home after the brakes failed coming down a steep road. Fortunately no one in the home was seriously injured and both truck riders jumped out before impact. One was injured and will be okay, but glad it wasn't as bad as it could have been.
