This photo was taken in my backyard, at around 7:45 am, on a piece of white poster board. My goal with the bottles was to emphasize the colorful shadows that they cast, and this photo did so best. For this particular photo, I added a Smart Sharpen mask, adjusted the curves, increased the contrast, and bumped up the saturation slightly, all in Photoshop CS6.
How does the use of only natural light influence the composition and detail of an inanimate object? In this photo, natural sunlight is responsible for the kaleidoscope of colors that these bottles cast in their shadows, which is really what makes the photo interesting.
I’d gone to Ala Moana center for coffee before any of the shops opened, and the sunlight emerging after a morning rain was irresistible to me once camera was in hand.
I've always felt this building gives the illusion that it is transparent to the area behind it at sunset

This isn't in the sharpest focus, and I know that the eye isn't in focus at all, and all the expert advice on shots of any creature emphasize that getting the eye in focus is the most important thing. But this insect was tiny (I shot it with the macro snap-on lens), it didn't hold still (or stay long) . . . and while I tried to get the whole side in focus, the eye actually is nowhere near the most interesting feature of this insect. The clear legs and colored abdomen are more interesting.
