Hyaliodes harti with a giant parasitic mite. Rock Creek Park, Washington, DC, USA.

I found this while digging though a rotten log from the woodpile. I didn't even notice the translucent wing covers until looking at it in the camera. The only reason I saved it was because of the little :> face on it's back. From the thumbnail the entire beetle looks like a pelican's head.

Diamond? Taaffeite? I dunno. Anybody can help?

A very simple shot, of a lovely little pink flower.

What makes this one special, is the beautiful spring sun shining through the petals, adding a layer of contrast and interest.

It's amazing that those tiny, paper-thin, translucent wings can move so darn fast!

I caught this guy, and a few of his friends, feeding roadside in Grant, Colorado.
